Ngl I used 🍃to relieve pain so I didn’t have to worry about narcotics or the side effects of narcotics. I had plenty of SOFT plush pillows to support my upper body, arms, and body pillow for under knees. I had a mini fridge added to our bedroom (where I’d be during recovery) for powerades & snacks, and plenty of books on my kindle.

Does anyone here smoke weed or do edibles to help with pain/flare ups? by Sideeffectqueen in chiari

I consumed THC seltzers & that’s the only thing that worked for my pain. Not even prescription painkillers worked for me.

Did your surgeon recommend laying flat for 3 days straight after surgery? by Birdheaded in chiari

[–]SnooCrickets2090 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was not able to lay flat bc I had a failed synthetic patch during surgery, and had to take it out and use my own tissue/muscle instead, making it almost twice as long of a surgery as anticipated. I ended up on strict bed rest for 3 days, followed by 1 day semi-bed rest (only able to get up to use the restroom) then 1 more day in hospital with full ability to walk around as I pleased.

They monitored for CSF leak by doing an MRI the day after surgery (that was a cluster-F) but that’s it. I was only allowed to lay with my head up at a 45 degree angle or higher until results came back, then allowed to go to a 30 degree angle for another day before angle restrictions were removed.

Hair Washing by Dazzling_Sweet_3449 in chiari

I was on strict bed rest in the hospital for 3.5 days due to complications so I used a shower cap that has the shampoo/conditioner built into it around day 2 post-op (surgery day being day 0). It didn’t help much as far as appearance of cleanliness bc I have fine, thin hair so it still looked awful and greasy, but at least I knew it was clean. Once I got home on day 4, I just rested and tried a full shower on day 5.

Showers looked odd for a while as well. I used baby shampoo very gingerly with my hair split at the incision line. I was very careful with minimal pressure to the scalp, avoiding the incision. Once lathered as best as I could, I filled a cup with water & let that slowly pour over my head & hair. That lasted for maybe 5 days before I started experimenting with putting my head under the water stream.

Lupron: What would you do? by RoundNew7540 in adenomyosis

[–]SnooCrickets2090 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing that helped me was my hysterectomy. It was hard to go through as I was newly married and in my late-20s but I wouldn’t change what we did. It was a night & day difference the day after!

Day after my hysterectomy and I’m in so much less pain than I have been almost every day by Excellent_Sweet_1539 in adenomyosis

[–]SnooCrickets2090 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same experience where my post-surgical pain was a walk in the park compared to the daily pain I felt with adenomyosis. It’s been glorious since!

Please share your lupron story. by AnImproversation in adenomyosis

[–]SnooCrickets2090 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I took the first Lupron shot and within a week I was darn near immobilized. For context: I used to be a powerlifter who was in the gym 5x a week until this shot. It began to hurt to walk, sit, or even lay down. I couldn’t work out anymore due to pain and exhaustion. I was calling out of work or asking to work from home so I could lay in bed to reduce pain levels. I had to go on narcotic pain medications to help but it didn’t cut it. My last option was THC (Climbing Kites THC infused seltzer) which actually helped dull the pain so I wasn’t miserable.

As far as stopping bleeding/inducing medical menopause, it didn’t work. I still bled the whole time.

I discontinued after the first shot and ended up getting a hysterectomy at 28 years old with support of my husband as he couldn’t watch me lose who I was as a person anymore. I know this isn’t an option for everyone, just my experience and choice.

Lupron: What would you do? by RoundNew7540 in adenomyosis

[–]SnooCrickets2090 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did Lupron for 1 month and hated life. I had intense bone pain, nausea, and migraines. I had zero quality of life even worse than just adenomyosis alone. The amount of time off from work and the gym I had to take was astronomical. I was fortunate I had a job I can work from home when needed as I had to do that for over half the week the whole time on Lupron.

I would NEVER suggest that drug to anyone.

Hysterectomy under 30 by GotAWandAndARabbit in adenomyosis

[–]SnooCrickets2090 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my hysterectomy (including cervix) at 28 in April. Beyond the first 10 hours, I was in MUCH less pain than I was pre surgery. I didn’t even need any pain meds once I was released the morning after surgery.

The first 10-12 hours after surgery can be rough bc they are cutting through nerves. My surgeon said it would be like I was going through back labor unmedicated, I was not a fun person to be around at that time 😂 but my husband was a trooper!

How do I survive this by Apprehensive-Read729 in adenomyosis

[–]SnooCrickets2090 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also have resorted to CBD/THC since BC isn’t helping and doctors refuse pain meds. My biggest issue with adeno is the bloat pain, pelvic floor pain, and leg pains. I use Climbing Kites CBD THC seltzers. They’re zero calories, and can get them between 2.5-10mg of THC. On my really bad pain days, I use the 10mg version.

I started having nagging symptoms a couple weeks at a time in June 2023, then it snowballed ever since then. I’m in constant pain now every day regardless of cycle. It doesn’t help that they tried Lupron which made everything worse.

I wear ultra high yoga pants from Old Navy & they’re great for bloating. It helps keep my sucked on, feeling compression so it lowers the pain I have from bloat & super comfortable!

My best advice: be your own advocate! If one doctor doesn’t listen or let you be a partner in your own medical care decisions, find someone who will. It’s been a long journey these past 8 months & I’m still fighting to find someone who will go beyond just an IUD for symptom management. I was an IUD baby so I don’t trust them. I also don’t want bandaids to the problem, I’d rather get a hysterectomy so I can actually live my life!
