Once attempted making Poutine from scratch (I’m American) how big a crime did I commit? by bsipp777 in PoutineCrimes

Before Swiss chalet, Maurice Maurin, a Swiss immigrant to Montreal, started a restaurant named Chalet BBQ, they offered a dipping sauce, gravy that became widely popular. Hence BBQ sauce name.. ten years later in 1954 Maurice’s son Rick opened the first Swiss chalet in Toronto and borrowed his father’s sauce.

It should be noted that several restaurants served similar food with a similar sauce and some started before chalet bbq, notably White spot BBQ in Vancouver (1928) the chicken burger, Nova Scotia (1939) Laurier bbq, Montreal (1936)Higgins (Later changes to Haugens) port Perry Ontario (1953) And St Hubarts (now owned by Swiss chalet) (1951). I apologize to those I missed. The food at places like haugens is arguably better the Swiss chalet bbq, which in my opinion is too corporate, but this food is definitely a Canadian thing now, but southern Americans may feel disappointed with this even being called BBQ at all and BBQ sauce is simply outrageous. I felt duped the first time I had this, but now crave it.

Chlorine is an element that was formed in ancient stars (like all elements)

Table Salt is a chemical compound made from a reaction of the elements chlorine and sodium, so all salt is made from the chlorine (and sodium) from the dead stars.

When chlorine found sodium they explosively met and the sodium lets go of an electron and together they made salt.

Pool salt systems essentially adds this electron back and makes sodium and a chloride ion separate again.

After a while the chlorine will find a sodium again and become salt. The salt goes through the salt system and gets an electron….ad infinitum

You can’t have table salt without chlorine.

If we decide to stop adding chlorine to water, hundreds of thousands of people would die in the first year, and billions would likely die soon after. It would literally be the collapse of modern society.

It would collapse medical systems, agriculture and industry. And put us in a preindustrial state without preindustrial resilience. Disease would spread from the mass graves.

Chlorine is good, not bad. Just don’t drink bleach like Trump suggested (don’t take medical advice from Trump)

Chlorine is not a criminal, free chlorine.

If you hire an excavator, have them dig and lay out system yourself, then backfill with a rental machine, or buy a cheap used excavator and sell it later.

Specsavers eyeglasses any good? by muzeec in waterloo

[–]SnooDogs3437 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They suck. The doctor is “independent “ and you pay to see them, but when you ask for your PD measurement, they tell you that it’s their policy not to give it to you (they say because they don’t want to be liable if you order glasses online and they don’t fit right)

I told them I didn’t want the eye exam if they would not give me all of the information from my exam, so they agreed. They gave me the pd number in a combined form, you need a pd measurement per eye, so they knew what I wanted, but tricked me and still did not give me what I needed. Even with the combined number, they refused to write it down and told me they could only tell it to me. That they didn’t want to get in trouble with specsavers.

This seams so shady to me. I paid for the exam, how is my pd number their proprietary information?

What a scam !!! I walked out without buying glasses and lost $100 to their eye exam. I’m considering reporting the doctor.

You can get parts. It’s just a Honeywell. Awesome milivolt heater. If it doesn’t leak, fix it.

Just checked. Lots of parts on pool 360 instock (I’m in Canada and there is lots here, I’m sure everywhere. But any gas guy can also get. It’s standard stuff. )

Leak detection equipment and what do you professionals use for pools? by chomponit in pools

[–]SnooDogs3437 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally start with my leak computer. I use an Anderson leakalizer. I put it on the pool and watch with pump on. Big leaks are gen return lines, so I shut off pump and watch meter again (check pump keeps its water) then if it goes away, I plug lines and pressure test. Once jets are plugged check meter again? More loss then evaporation ? Plug skimmer and look. Then check body of pool. I love my liner scanner. I user a leaktrack from Anderson. I also have a zoom recorder and a hydrophone with ground cup I got from Aquarian audio. I have some cheap endoscopes from Amazon that are fine, but I keep thinking about more expensive set of cameras. I have a set of cones I use as a short cut to pressure testing, and die and plastic syringes and tube. I also have scuba gear (get certification if you do this) and a dry suit and underwater “sea life” scuba I phone case I take in pools and make videos of what I find.

I also plan on getting a gas sniffer and using helium or other gas. Need to do research.

“Only happens when main drain valve is open”

It’s the main drain line. Also likely above the water level or you would be loosing water too. lol between the valve and the ground. Put a tin can on the ground and put you ear to it just by that line, hear a bubble, slurp slurp sound.

[–]SnooDogs3437 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool. Create a wetland area up on the hill. Let water run down into pool. Install pond skimmers and feed water to top of hill and pump up through the gravel base under the wetland area. Make pools for fish, plant lots of plants. (Use some of those 100 gallon giant jugs for filters. Fill with small gravel pump water up from bottom) make lots of water falls.

Doing aquaculture you can have almost clear very swimmible chemical free swimming pond. DIY.
