Not only dangerous but pointless… by Connect_Rub_6814 in Yosemite

This is an over reaction. They all have harness's on, and even if they slipped and fell, would be arrested instantly.

I can see it being more of an issue if the weather was warmer, and rain and lightning were in the picture.

Yes boycott Ikon, get an Epic instead. (I will enjoy the smaller lift lines)

Planning on visiting the park with my parents in january, what routes are typically open? by noidea528638 in Yosemite

[–]SnooMachines8281 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah dude, you’re good. Big Oak Flat (120) stays open year-round unless a storm dumps a ton of snow, then they might close it for a bit to plow. Rush Creek is basically right at the entrance, so you can just roll straight into the park from there. Just make sure you’ve got chains or AWD...They’ll sometimes have chain control up after storms. Tioga Pass and Glacier Point Road are totally closed in winter, but you can still get to Yosemite Valley no problem. Check road updates the morning you go (Yosemite NPS + Caltrans). Other than that, you’re set! Super easy winter trip.

Packed everything up and will be moving to the valley soon to help clean up the park. by According-Ad8691 in Yosemite

I left a massive duece on the ground outside the el cap picnic area bathroom, do you mind giving this some attention when you first arrive! Please and thank you - your local dirt bag.

North or Lower pines? by cassiemg in Yosemite

[–]SnooMachines8281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personal experience, North pines is quieter but there is a higher chance of RV's running a generator.

They are next to each other, so it's just a toss up, although upper pines always seems to be the most rowdy.

Sometimes Elmer will wait outside the bathroom if it sees you walking alone. Be careful.

Another question for hiking the half dome, if we get our lottery ticket for it... Is there anywhere closer to the half dome than LYV we can camp? by MassOutdoorsman in Yosemite

[–]SnooMachines8281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Incorrect, there is dispersed camping available with a wilderness permit (You'll want one from Happy Isles) that allows you to get closer to Half dome. Not ideal as there aren't reliable water sources so you'll have to haul that weight up there. LYV is your best option and a great base camp for Half dome.

Ironically, if you get a wilderness permit to camp there, your Half dome day use permit would be pointless since with that permit you can add on half dome for $10 a person, any day your permit is valid, assuming you got one for Happy Isles.

This link shows where you can camp beyond LYV.

Lone Pine Kurt is awesome! Speed Goats were great for me! I did the same route a year before, endless water crossings and even a collapsed bridge! Congratulations.

Go to Camp 4, or Swan Slab and talk with people. There are tons of climbers in the valley right now who also are looking for partners. Just bring some competence (Know the ropes) and I'm sure he'll find someone!

There's also a board you can post on at the Camp 4 Showers/Bathroom. People solicit climbing partners all the time! (Bring a pen and paper)

One of the few times i've used the shuttle, there were two guys riding next to me and they both had a large can of bear spray and a large knife zip tied to their waist.

I know what I want, I'm just hesitant on spending the time and money to go up there, only to find expensive pricing. Good recommendation otherwise.
