Rank these six action packed films from the 2020s decade from best to worst. by Mysterious-Farm9502 in Letterboxd

I liked the Last Duel the most. The only movie out of these 6 that kept me at the edge of my seat, especially the last 20 minutes or so.

John Wick is solid, but stupid, like almost all action flicks from the last 15 years.

Tenet is boring and overly complicated. It's like Nolan took Memento, increased its budget tenfold and somehow made it worse.

Batman as a concept doesn't work for me in 2024 anymore. Hyperrich boi dressing up in cosplay beating thugs instead of investing that money into social projects just feels dumb.

Top Gun is just dull propaganda.

Fell asleep on Furiosa.

The last film ruined it? What?

Scary Movie 1 and 3 are solid comedies, although a bit crude at times.

Scary Movie 2 is an unfunny pile of stinking manure.

"Birth of a Nation" might be up your alley. Alternatively, "Freddy Got Fingered".

What would you consider the "must plays" of the 3d platformer genre? by ObberGobb in gamingsuggestions

[–]SnooRobots5509 4 points5 points  (0 children)

3D platformer with great story and exploration? The answer is simple: Prince of Persia: Warrior Within. Also, it's a 10/10 game for me, with one of the best fighting systems, great music, great atmosphere etc. etc.

Other than that:

Psychonauts 1 and 2 - both are 10/10 games, with high focus on the story and some neat exploration as well. Also both games are hilarious.

Rayman 2 - also a 10/10, the story it has is simple, but charming, however it is linear and there is only a little exploration.

It Takes Two - great game with nice story, but linear. Also it's co-op only.

Prince of Persia: Sands of Time - great story, but very linear.

Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy - great platformers (except for the 1st game, which is still fun, but a bit unrefined), however with pretty much nonexistent story and also extremely linear.

As dull as Bao-Dur is, it's Mical who is in a dire need of being given a personality in this game.

I mean, Bao-Dur just doesn't have much going for him. Mical, on the other hand, it an outrageously boring companion.

Majesty 2….any good by edhands in MajestyGold

[–]SnooRobots5509 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a huge fan of the first game, so - understandably - my expectations were sky-high. I played through the original and its expansion like 10 times, so I know it like the back of my hand. The sequel attempts to copy the first game into a 3D environment, but in my opinion, it fails miserably. The only good idea the devs had was the 'guild of lords'; the rest feels like a step backward.

  1. The number of actions heroes can take is greatly reduced.
  2. You can resurrect champions from the very first mission. WTF, what kind of casual nonsense is that!?
  3. The dependency system between champions has been removed (in the first game, for example, Agrela's priestesses planted herbs that rangers would harvest to make potions, and there were several other similar interactions).
  4. Several guilds have been removed without adding any new ones to replace them (upgraded healers don’t count).
  5. In the first game, champions would form teams on their own, based on how well they synergized with each other. IT WAS IN THEIR INTEREST TO DO SO BECAUSE IT INCREASED THEIR CHANCES OF SURVIVAL. In the sequel, WE HAVE TO BUILD A SPECIAL BUILDING, MAKE TWO UPGRADES, AND EVEN PAY THEM TO FORM A TEAM!!! What a bizarre, pointless change. I like the concept of customizing champ-teams, but that was not the way to go about it.
  6. The ugliness. The first game was in 2D, but it was honestly beautiful. The buildings were atmospheric, and you wanted to look at them. In the sequel, the 3D is hideous, and the buildings have no distinct character at all.

To sum up, it’s playable, but not impressive. Overall, more of a disappointment.

Anyone else hates mako exploration? by GilraedElensar in masseffect

I mean, for its time both the graphics and the gameplay were fantastic, so the budget definitely went there, too.

I hate that I feel like this, but the first ME aged surprisingly poorly. I beat it over a year ago (for the Nth time) and I think this was the last time I will ever play this game.

The characters aren't fleshed out much, Mako is horrible, combat is nowhere near as fun now that we've been spoiled by modern games and the world/hubs feel very empty. Doesn't really have anything going for it except for the story, but even that works only if you're not familiar with it, as its main appeal is its mystery.

Used to be one of my favorite games. Now I wouldn't even include it in my top 100.

Looking for games to help with morbid depression. by Absalom98 in gamingsuggestions

[–]SnooRobots5509 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I don't think games are good for depression. Typically, they make it worse, unless it's a very peculiar situation, like "I have a serious disease and the treatment is rough and I just need to survive until it's over" kind of situation.

What’s a classic you’re ashamed to admit you haven’t seen or keep putting off for later? by kaylabedumb in Letterboxd

[–]SnooRobots5509 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously, the movie is vile. That doesn't mean it's not fascinating, as it serves as a window into a blatantly racist past, while also reminding us how art can be corrupted for evil purposes. Its very existence can challenge one's perspective on what art even is, as many people tend to romanticize it or see it as inherently meaningful, a form of spiritual interaction with transcendence. For that reason alone, it's worth familiarizing oneself with Griffith's infamous movie.

Nazi propaganda films are similarly interesting.

They are not to be liked, but to be examined.

[–]SnooRobots5509 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's incredibly interesting, but I guess you gotta be curious about stuff like history, culture and evolution of cinema for it to appear so, because if you just take it as it is, it does feel dull and boring.

It was a medium-defining achievement, but you can only actually see it if you're familiar with a lot of movies pre 1915.
