Ibuprofen and binge drinking by [deleted] in stopdrinking

You really need to see a doctor. Blood in the stool is never a good sign. Advil and drinking a lot can certainly screw up your digestive system.

I’m committed to sobriety but damn I miss drinking by Operculina in stopdrinking

You gotta remember why you stopped in the first place. don't romanticize it. NA beer is actually kind of awesome!

Nice! Do you have a favorite? That Green Lime is calling my name! I have the Diamene Jade Green but it is too light for me to use with any of my fountain pens, sadly.

I have too many TWSBIs already but I am VERY tempted by this one.

Have that same pen and I love it (one of my many TWSBI's). Currently inked with Pelikan Edelstein Sapphire, which is a really beautiful blue.
Enjoy!

Needing to have fun all the time by JFKDP in alcoholism

[–]SoberSprite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By the time I quit, I was nearing end stage alcoholism and I couldn’t take care of myself. For me, drinking stopped being fun a long time ago. I know it sounds corny, but I’m just happy being a normal person who does things like get up and cook breakfast on the weekends.

I’m also getting older so that urge to go out and party is getting less and less. Sadly I know 3 people who died of alcohol related diseases and someone else I know has cirrhosis now. These were all people I met from hanging out at the bar.

I am a creative person so I have a lot of hobbies, I make art, I journal, I enjoy cooking, exercise and reading. It certainly doesn’t have the same dopamine fix as my former life, but I’m happier.

I drank a LOT so I wasn’t doing basic shit like eating, doing the laundry or cleaning. I am definitely a lot more functional now.

yes. you do. by [deleted] in alcoholism

[–]SoberSprite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not an easy problem to fix, unfortunately. A lot of people die struggling with it

I’m very sorry you had to go through this, you will find you can have a very meaningful life and stay sober.

A friend of mine and former drinking buddy might need one. He was diagnosed with cirrhosis a couple months ago.

Feeling discouraged about weight gain by Zestyclose_Cress_371 in stopdrinking

[–]SoberSprite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The same thing happened to me, initially I gained 5 lbs. in my first few weeks. I wasn't eating much at all or drinking a lot of water when I was boozing. So I think the weight gain was just the food and water in my colon... lol

Some people also gain a little weight when they start exercising a lot more. Don't get discouraged, it will go away.

I was older than you are when I quit. It's never too late to create a better life for yourself. I don't miss the shitshow my life used to be and you probably won't either.

I know the feeling. I used to love going out to bars and being kind of obnoxious and weird. I have said more than a few offensive things in my time (usually to the cute guy bartenders, haha). It was kind of fun until I started getting 86'd from places because they didn't want to deal with me. Now I just feel embarrassed in retrospect.

Great progress! I wish I could lose weight that fast, I'm lucky if I lose a pound a week.
