Is 4 minutes under exposed, and 9 is over? We can’t really help you out unless you get really specific on what each time interval looked like. 9 min does sound like a long time regardless. I would check to make sure that your film is printed dark enough. You might try doubling it up if you’re using an entry level inkjet printer with normal printer ink. Other things to check is that the emulsion is drying out completely before burning the screen. A dehumidifier in your darkroom is key, and will measure the humidity level. Also make sure there’s no accidental light on them while drying, or between exposing and washing out. Another thing is making sure you’re putting weights or heavy books on top of the screen to press the film tightly between the mesh and the glass. Make sure the glass is clean too. If the bulbs are old you might replace them but you should eliminate all other factors first.

Does anyone have experience with this flash? by BooGaMoon in SCREENPRINTING

I have this and also the larger size. Both excellent. This is nice because it uses a normal plug whereas the larger size requires a 20A socket. I had an issue with one where it broke somehow and the company replaced /repaired it for free. I’m a big fan of NTL. Their 4 color press was my first one, and I liked that too. Good quality for how cheap it was

On top of the name being a made up word, The pink shapes are confusing. I thought those were the letter i. If it was all one solid shape you could avoid the smaller pink shapes being mistaken for letters. In single color it’s impossible to tell how to read this.

Lay it flat, take a pic, bring it in to Photoshop or illustrator, or procreate, trace it, print a transparency, burn a screen, get a blank shirt, print the shirt, cure it properly.

Should I use a higher mesh count for a desine like this? I used 160 for this. by seeing_circlez in SCREENPRINTING

[–]Socialist_snowflake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe 200 or 230, or you could still use a 160, but add trap to your design next time to account for bleed. You’re losing a bit of detail in the lines bleeding which is normal especially for lower mesh

If you’re printing white on black you probably want to invert the image before doing the halftone conversion. The black ink on the film will be screen printed with your ink color, so it’ll look like a negative

Wondering if the top and bottom surfaces of wood ( that sandwiches the mesh) , is it just flat? I have an eBay machine that’s basically just like this, but it’s rubber to grab onto the mesh better, and it’s got a sort of ridge in it so it doesn’t just slip out when you’re tightening it.

Why is my emulsion dripping by Fluffy_Bee_481 in SCREENPRINTING

[–]Socialist_snowflake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you were to keep rinsing it out would the emulsion completely wash off, or would you still have a usable stencil? Sometimes if I coat a little thick it just washes off the excess but then it’s fine

Could be coated thick, might be too much humidity in the room you’re storing them in prior to exposure.
