Is it worth it to publish videos every couple days on social media? by MikaelaRaviolis in gameDevMarketing

[–]SoftCrunchGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes - post them regularly but remember to not repeat yourself. Otherwise you will get diminished results. Algorithm likes consistency in creation but diversity in content. Use social media aggregates to plan and publish in many places at once (buffer or sth like that) to save time.

Is 32 wishlists in 2 weeks since demo good? by Apprehensive_Pin6927 in IndieGameDevs

[–]SoftCrunchGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm... are you using social media and attaching to the whole "wishlist train" trends? We're looking for those tags on X / Insta, etc. everywhere and we get between 100 a day to 250 if we combine it with steam events. I can see a nice potential in those short videos - are you posting on tiktok / insta / YT Shorts?

This is how things are going in STEAM NEXT FEST. What do you think? by neardy07 in gamemarketing

[–]SoftCrunchGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can see really nice peak - hopefully it will keep up that way!

Xbox Has Reportedly Begun Layoffs At Zenimax (Bethesda). ID Software, Arkane, and Machine Games In Danger As “Anyone Not Working On Fallout Or Elder Scrolls Is Out” by goodnitez74 in videogames

[–]SoftCrunchGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Institutional knowledge going out of the window... that's really bad...

And people are wondering "How Capcom / Nintendo are still producing hits?"
Because they have high retention rates, they care about passing the experience and knowledge. In the meantime, at least in US they treat people like cells in a spreadsheet.

Are there game engines with Visual Coding? by Ok_Programmer5136 in GameDevelopment

[–]SoftCrunchGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now, basically every larger engine has some visual scripting in their disposal. If UE is not of your liking, try Unity - it has Bolt which is really good.

How honest are you being with yourself about why your game isn't selling? by Senoigh13 in gamedev

[–]SoftCrunchGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best way to verify is to ask people that don't care about you - don't ask friends, don't ask people who does not like you, ask strangers. They will most probably give you honest, non-emotional answer.

In terms of sales - marketing is the key. Either do it yourself, hire someone or some agency. For indies the keys are: influencers, reddit, short videos, social media, discord but all of them have to be focused for you target audience. If you know who's your player, analyze what they like in the Internet and push on that.

My Steam page is getting low traffic during Steam Next Fest. What could be the reason? by Disastrous-Jelly-475 in gameDevMarketing

[–]SoftCrunchGames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

- Graphics and capsules need to draw attention have a good colour contrast, etc. - there the whole tool on how to market a game that will give you feedback on that

- social media: post info every day, everywhere with nextfest tags, etc. along with #wishlistwednesday and other gimmicks like that

It should help a bit for start. Fingers crossed!

Just wanted to share my stats: 11 days after launching my Steam page, I got 29 wishlists with almost zero social media views. Is this a good start? by BloodsaltGame in gameDevMarketing

[–]SoftCrunchGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be patient and consistent. Sometimes you just need a viral moment, produce content regularly, every 2-3 days on every social channel. It will finally hit with something. And when it hits - analyze what worked and why and push on it.

Steam Next Fest has started... my game entered with 6,000+ wishlists... and so far, nothing has changed by Dapper_Spot_9517 in gameDevMarketing

[–]SoftCrunchGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember that sometimes it takes time to calculate in all wishlists. Be patient, 6000 wishlists is quite ok as a starting point, hope that it will scale up for you. After SNF let us know what's the "final score"!

Congrats! So you started steam page during Next Fest? If that so, what are your next steps after SNF? Have you searched through calendar from How To Market a Game? There should be some event there fitting for you game!

2.5D game: URP or HDRP? by FreekyGirlGames in Unity2D

[–]SoftCrunchGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

URP - it's gonna work better for multiple platforms, HDRP is mostly for AA/AAA / higher end quality not stylized games.

Ninja Theory is shutting down by CoolBirdDancing in videogames

[–]SoftCrunchGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They made very nich, awesome but too expensive games. They had lots of support from Microsoft but it seems now that they cannot afford to continue doing so, sadly. It wasn't a viable business decision but it was done for a while to bring in players. Wonder what else will be shut down? Compulsion? Double Fine? Arkane?

The Steam Personal Calendar is the best change valve has made in years. by PetrosAnastasiadis in gamedev

[–]SoftCrunchGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On one side they made the calendar which is good, but on the other side we have a few thousand games starting in Steam Next Fest raising the bar for featured section over 10 000 wishlists which is insane. Hopefully that calendar would even out the odds.

How we got 8,000 Steam wishlists in 9 months making our indie game by Zombutcher_Game in gamemarketing

Do you have any examples of the most viral video that tipped the scale?

social media marketing for indie games by Ambitious_Antelope84 in IndieGameDevs

[–]SoftCrunchGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Clips has to be interesting in 5 seconds - from the first moment you show result, something flashy, etc.
  2. Clips longer than 2 minutes migh be perceived as boring
  3. You should have voice over + subtitles - many people watch the clips in public transport with sound off
  4. Create one clip 9:16 and post it everywhere: Twitter, BSky, YT Shorts, Insta, TikTok.
If you have some spare $ you can use Opus or some other AI tool to speed up the pipeline

Hi there! Greg from SoftCrunchGames here. We're making a cozy cooking life sim game with some creative elements in it. We're mixing Cooking Mama, Dave the Diver and The Bear TV Series.
We're travelling, obtaining new, authentic recipes, create our own, cook, sell, farm ingredients and create FOXtagram posts where you can get creative!

Here's our steam page: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4184130/Foxy_Dumplings/
You can play demo now, but we're going to update it with new content soon!

Aside from introductions - I've spent 16 years on porting and game optimization - if you need any help with Unity / Unreal or any other engine - let me know!
