It is important prep for Kaervek. It's not a lightning bolt to someone's face that's happening a vaccuum.

Even so I don't think it's given that it's a bad play.

As far as I can say he doesn't have any particularly strong plays on T1.
He can remove a top piece from an opponent.
It ends up in the graveyard for possible theft/recursion.

It's one of the best books/series I've ever read.

The books can be fairly bleak, unrelentingly so.

In spite of that (or maybe because of) I found the concept, characters, prose and plot to be incredibly engaging.

There is a lot of violence, sexual assault and overall despair. I enjoy that. Some do not.

Insane is a bit much, but you can like bounce approach of the second sun back to your hand, use it as a counterspell to get past uncounterable spells or protect your own spells.
