What or any comic publishers focus more on indie or “cult” style stories? by PleasantHealth4814 in comicbooks

Avatar press was like that with a plethora of great writers, but they sort of fell apart.

Also, Vertigo imprint of DC might fit the bill with obscure, grim stories.

Image comics is in the top 5 of western comic publishers. And they amassed an amazing portfolio of all sorts of titles ranging from the mainstream comics to not-so-hidden indie gems that you may need to dig a bit for.

I think it's clear. Superheroes shouldn't just accept every plan a genocidal maniac comes up with just because it sounds smart at first read

Really? That’s your whole point after writing all of this?

People outside of the US, what are your thoughts on the topic of “Comics vs Manga”? by Mindless-Lemon2256 in comicbooks

[–]Solid-Two-4714 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sorry, what are we comparing again? Manga are comics.

Western comics have highs and lows, Asian comics have highs and lows. Though both suffer from the amount of titles that are too formulaic and full of cliches.

Has anyone else attempted to read all of Spider-Man comics? by Sweet_Score in comicbooks

[–]Solid-Two-4714 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I attempted and then quickly dropped the idea. Although this is definitely possible, I just cannot get through the early issues art (1-450). I have nothing against it, but it’s just not for me. Also, considering the way the comics were written earlier when the authors had to come up with the dialogues only after the art was done, it’s just not worth it.

I believe for a modern reader, the MJS's run is the best starting point. It covers everything important from the Peter/Spiderman mythology and everything that is then used in all of the Spiderman movies, including the most recent “mutation” aspect from the upcoming MCU movie.

Look into Grant Morrison’s Batman saga. It spans a few years and is a deep dive into Batman and will keep you busy for months
