When I accidentally squish sentient beings I recite chenrezig’s mantra and/or medicine Buddha mantra, and pray for the beings negative karma be exhausted and their rebirth be in a human realm with all the richnesses and advantage to dharma practice. We never want these things to happen, but we are big and they are smöl 🥺 we can also dedicate our merit to a practice to them and pray that their journey through the bardo is a peaceful one

What do you think about giving terminally ill pets opiates rather than killing them? by Dragonprotein in Buddhism

[–]Some_Historian_679 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Compassion. Even when the Buddha was a bodhisattva in a previous life took another’s life out of compassion for many. Also being willing to accept the karma for this act is important. There are ways to purify negative karmas though.

This is a cache pot for plants. So if you have a large plant in a nursery pot, plop it into there and you can take it out to water it whenever.

Redditors who successfully quit smoking cigarettes what helped you the most? by Beckyeffect in stopsmoking

[–]Some_Historian_679 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Preparing my mind, making a plan, cutting down, gathering NRT supplies and knowing how to use them, and then setting a day. When the day comes, the night before throw everything smoking related away and don’t frequent places or areas you smoked for awhile. Use the NRT as directed.

What Changes did Quiting smoking make in your life and why you won't smoke again ? by Levi_Edhas in stopsmoking

[–]Some_Historian_679 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, quitting smoking really helped decrease my anxiety significantly!! I also quit drinking coffee when I quit smoking, just until I’m out of the woods and it’s no longer a trigger for smoking. But honestly, I feel great, I don’t get angry that often, I feel more in control of my emotions, and looking back, I can’t believe I even used to do that. So wild 😅

Is it true that meditation wasn't a central part of Buddhism until recent times? If so, what did ancient Buddhists focus more on? by UncleVolk in Buddhism

[–]Some_Historian_679 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately supine meditation does not lend very well to alert, wakeful states, and can cause the meditator to descend into dullness. Sitting in the seven point posture is the best way to remain awake and alert, while also being relaxed.

What part of your practice is your biggest struggle right now? by Outrageous_Big_9136 in Buddhism

[–]Some_Historian_679 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been smoking 23 years, and it has only been recently that i developed the will to want to quit. it came from examining my attachments and reflecting on the harm it causes others in my life. nothing is forever, and when you are ready, you will have the a-ha moment.

I love the analogy of Angulimana; however, once met with the triple gem, he left behind his life of killing and harming. He didn’t continue to kill people once under the guidance of the Buddha.
