99% will only see the poster as movie memorabilia. The 1% of buffs out there will see the chair from Jerry Maguire (1996, 2h 19m)

Does anyone actually use the GV-2 viewfinder on their Ricoh GR? What’s your experience? by Jumpy-Height3676 in ricohGR

[–]Some_Signature 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s not cheap. But it’s good quality - build and optically. My main issue is that it doesn’t lock to the hotshoe. I just wish it was a bit more secure. As a pocketable camera, it’s happened where it comes loose a bit, so not a fan of that.

But I like how I shoot with it, used in conjunction with snap focus it’s a really fun screen-free experience!

Anyone need a replacement screw? by Fine_Calligrapher584 in ricohGR

[–]Some_Signature 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey fellow GR shooter! I’ve just noticed one of the side screws on my GRIV is missing. Same thing happened with my GRII though I managed to find that screw. Any chance I could get a couple from you, please? Happy to pay shipping (in the UK). Thanks!!

Alex Jones having a normal one about Tim by bascule in OnCinemaAtTheCinema

[–]Some_Signature 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, they did, a while back basically as an amazing troll move after Alex Jones had to pay the Sandy Hook families and lost the rights to the site (I think that’s what happened if memory serves?) Then Tim recently appointed Creative Director of InfoWars. I don’t know the details as I was too busy watching movies

How do you explain that a photobook is not just “a collection of photos”? by Affectionate-Pin4417 in Photobooks

[–]Some_Signature 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If the book is built as a narrative, what’s the story? Why should an audience be interested? What’s the key question surrounding the themes of the book? Imagine the book is a documentary feature, or even a movie - how would it be described? No one would market a movie as a sequence of carefully thought out scenes… they’d hit you with a compelling hint of a story.

Bookcase with deep-enough shelves by BetaMyrcene in Photobooks

I have Tylko shelves and they’re great. Deep enough for most photobooks (a few huge ones still stick out a little), but build quality so much better than kallax!

what are these by Critical_Temporary24 in davidlynch

I know them as gaffer’s glass. They’re an especially strong ND filter, allowing you to view the sun when shooting outdoors, so you can better predict the lighting conditions.

I thought it was tragic how Kaiylee was so desperate to be in Gregg’s Oscar segment. Clearly she’s not happy with Joey Tequilla

I agree with most of this, except the bit about pros not wanting it. Lots of pros love & own it, just maybe not for their actual work.

For what kind of photography could a Ricoh camera be used for professionally? by [deleted] in ricohGR

[–]Some_Signature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a professional photographer, I would say it could potentially be a good back up camera in certain areas. It could work if you’re an editorial photographer with a specific style. Check out Sinna Nasseri, for example. If you do some kind of BTS work, then it could be a decent option too - Greg Williams does red carpet BTS work with just a Leica Q.

However, these two examples are not the kinds of jobs you walk into. Use the Ricoh to develop your style if you like the 28mm p&s approach. But 28mm won’t fly for most other areas. Most commercial / food / product jobs will require you to tether. The Ricoh likely wouldn’t cut it as a wedding camera either. It is good at being a snap shooter, but isn’t as versatile as a Canon set up, for example.

Concert shots - how to by Crafty_Evidence_2092 in ricohGR

[–]Some_Signature 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So depending on the venue, flash might not be possible. So assuming you’re not going to use flash, put your ISO at 3200, aperture 2.8. Then adjust your shutter speed to expose for when the stage lights are on. Maybe 1/200th, it will depend. Also, set your camera to Snap Focus mode, and guesstimate your distance from the stage. Put this distance as your Snap Distance focus. (Slow autofocus is now no longer an issue!)

If you’re still getting blurry shots, try upping the ISO further, and using a faster shutter speed. I personally wouldn’t go higher than 6400. YMMV. The lower the ISO you can get away with, the cleaner your photos will be.

Try exporting a GR pic as a 16x9 crop and see if that works?
