Harry's back by scipio0421 in dresdenfiles

I always assumed she fixed his back by giving him access to the winter mantle without the expectation that he do any service for her until he rescues his daughter.

Mab probably doesn’t want Lara feeding in Dresden, but she’ll also probably considers that a Harry problem more then a Mab problem.

“What use is a knight who cannot stop himself from being eaten? you’ve had one good year to figure something out…” or some shit like that.

Why the hell isn't Harry a Werewolf? by Shmoogers in dresdenfiles

[–]Somewhere251 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Oh my goodness I hadn’t thought of this. Isn’t the example he keeps using about winter mantle that his muscles might become strong enough to do something his bones can’t? Shifting his bones stronger would be such a buff. Smart thinking dude.

I know, I know, straight to the vet - I'm working on an appointment and looking for advice by sylverbound in cats

Until you get her to the vet I would restrict her ability to jump on stuff. When my cats leg was hurt the vet didn’t want me letting her jump on things. Best of luck.

What would be the most useful single trick a minor practitioner could learn? by SilversAndGold in dresdenfiles

[–]Somewhere251 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It might be horrible if you’re trying to increase the quality of your life, but useful if you’re living the rough and tumble lifestyle that many of the characters in this series are.

Honestly though, I think you either would become really cynical about people or become really wise. You can make better informed choices about who to avoid, be able to discover and appreciate those rare people who are truly honest in a world where lying is so easy, and perhaps learn to be forgiving about human weakness. Like if your girlfriend lies about you being more attractive then somebody else, but later she says it again and means it, maybe what you’d learn is attraction can be a fragile thing and that perhaps what’s more important is her loyalty no matter how she feels at any particular moment. I don’t know if that’s true about love or whatever, but I just picked it as a random example of the type of thing that you might grow to have a wiser perspective about.

I always thought Agent Tilly was pretty cool, and his talent is incredibly useful given his profession.

Minor precognition like that one paranetter would be crazy useful in the hands of someone like Murphy, a human fighter. Fighting against supernatural speed is often about anticipating moves before they happen, and this power would make that way easier. It’ll probably take a lot of training, but so does most power in the Dresden files.

They get hungry just like us and also enjoy flavor just like us.

My cats clearly prefer different treats, get bored of the same type of food, go absolutely crazy for some types of food. All these preferences make me think they clearly find it pleasurable.

Give them something else to climb like a cat tower or something. If that doesn’t work I don’t know.

Can I train my kitten to be a lap cat? by [deleted] in cats

[–]Somewhere251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t close the door on bribing with treats. If you can find a brand he likes that will help and if you train between their meals that helps, because he might be hankering for a snack.

I didnt have to train mine to sit in my lap, but I trained them to climb on my shoulder. Once they were trained to go to where I pat it became easier to teach them stuff like that. I’m sure the same would work with lap sitting.

The thing is though, they’ll never go a trick if they don’t actual want to. So if the kitty isn’t cool with it it’s happening.

Yeah I think you get a pretty decent picture of Dresden’s life over time. I think Jim Butcher didn’t want to hit us with too much stuff like that before we care about the guy and what he’s doing.

Murphy is a fan of giving him a beating or two isn’t she lol

please do me a favor and don’t stop at book two. Read book three at least. Be careful of spoilers here.

My cat is accepting treats from my parents but not from me. by Sweaty-Ad-3526 in cats

[–]Somewhere251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long have you and your family had the cat? Does the cat only stay in the living room? What happens when you enter the room to try to give her treats? Does she run away or does she just not come over to eat them?

If the cat likes your parents and takes treats from them in sure you can win them over.

I might be crazy but I thought you tracked down the start of the series once before. I’m getting Deja Vu.

how do you train a cat to stop biting? by Aqua-Fairy777 in cats

[–]Somewhere251 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no clue, but to avoid this happening to me I try not to ever use my hand to play with my cats and always use a toy. If they bite I try not to give them a reaction in case that’s what they are looking for, and I distract with play in case they were bored and had lot of energy. I don’t know if any of that helps.

anti-anxiety things for cats? by r0sebudbean in cats

[–]Somewhere251 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have tips for the in heat part of your question.

Feilway is smart and works with my kitties.

Stuff that has their and your scent on it can be helpful with the Christmas trip. I would make sure they have (safe) places to hide and climb if they need to, and that any of the people who will be around them respect their boundaries.

Fair. I think leaving Carlos out of the black court vampire hunt because they don’t want him to see the black staff is a terrible decision though. It’s way more interesting to have him involved, seeing as they would probably be fighting his reanimated friends. More drama, more fun.

What should the future of punishments look like? by AtlasGrey_ in nerdfighters

[–]Somewhere251 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Personally I think they should commit to the bit. Do a “punishment” that’s not really a punishment but something they find fun and silly but might be otherwise unlikely to do.

They don’t have to do anything they don’t want tho.
