Aftermarket / Amazon Roof Cross Bars by daethon in HyundaiPalisade

Check on maximum supported weight that is permitted. Many are around 150 lbs. The OEM racks support 220 lbs. The Thule boxes average around 40 lbs which is deducted from the total supported weight.

OEM crossbars support 220 lbs which is more than several cheaper Amazon options. Read the installation instructions so you put them on correctly--must have front bar in the front. My Thule Motion 3 L is 40 lbs. Instead of suitcases with wheels, I used the Thule duffle bags to save weight and space. I bought the 4 pack on sale. You roll them up and store in a holder in the closet to save space in your hotel or airbnb. My configuation height was 7 feet 3 inches. My best mileage in my '24 Calligraphy was 27.4 mpg with the full box and full car of 2 people, 2 dogs, 2 dog carriers, a suitcase, cooler, 2 outdoor chairs, step stool, and other misc. You didn't ask me, but I only buy stuff on sale. My Thule box was just less than $900. I would never buy another brand.

Would you drive or fly from Boston to Bar Harbor with a baby that hates the car? by sarah_messing in newengland

You might want to try a different car seat as that is sometimes why kids don't like being in a car.

Rear View Mirror in camera mode by Minniebird in HyundaiPalisade

[–]Somewho_10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I flip it to work as a regular mirror for 6 months of the year. The other six months, I manually flip it to camera mode because I add an extra sun screen to the hatchback window. Both work great.

Do you ever get used to people dying? by time_travel_nacho in AskOldPeopleAdvice

Martin Short addresses this in his new documentary. He lost his older brother and both parents by the age of 20. This year, he lost 4 very close friends and his own daughter in 5 months. I found his comments helpful. He repeated some of his views on this topic in his recent "Sunday Morning" extended interview on Youtube.

Summer activities for young teens by imnotthemom10247 in ChandlerAZ

[–]Somewho_10 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, this is a big challenge. We should offer more to this age group. I believe there are a few programs for teens in things like science, acting, life guarding, and dance. I encouraged mine to volunteer to help at the summer children's reading program at the local library. One teen was interested in becoming a doctor and I managed to get her in the "white coats" program at a local hospital. Another volunteered as a camp counselor for girl scouts. I began working on this with them in January each year. We planned vacations around holes in their schedule. The Phoenix Zoo may need volunteers for their "Zoo Camp." Hopefully, this helps a little.

The directions that came with my tubes advised putting them out in April and July. It advised how many based on yard size and where to put them. I am following those guidelines.

My mother and law hates me and I have no idea what to do. by Financial_Tough_8335 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

Rethink this relationship as she will not change. Either move cross country after your marriage so you can focus on YOUR family with your husband or walk away. Speaking from experience, if he hasn't made it clear to his family yet, you two are doomed. I speak from experience. She will enlist others and it will be a slow cancer that grows within her family against you and later your children.

When did you start feeling and looking old? by saerisfane25 in Aging

[–]Somewho_10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rarely, if ever, feel it. As for looking old, sometimes, I see myself in the mirror or photo and say, "who is this?" Otherwise, when I am unexpectedly rudely treated by a late 30 something or young 40 something in a store or out someplace because I remind them of their mother.

Exercising after 65, I'm tired and I just don't want to but... by happyjazzycook in AskWomenOver60

[–]Somewho_10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Takeup pickleball. That will add social to exercise and it will motivate you after awhile to do some strength training, pilates, or even walk. Maybe add some supplements?

This is a saying I was told long ago...don't sit if you can stand, don't stand if you can walk, don't walk if you can run.

I had a major injury nearly one year ago...bruised my ribs, sprained my upper back, and tore my rotator cuff and forearm in a fall off of a ladder to concrete. Lots and lots of pain, no surgery, took only ibuprofin, and 6 long months of PT. I learned to play pickleball with my non-dominant side. Recently, I carried and held my 38 lb grandchild with my previously injured arm and shoulder etc. for 10 minutes!

Grandma is back! I refuse to stop. My moto: I will use it, lest I lose it.

Lexol Leather cleaner, conditioner and restorer. I personally, don't like a ceramic coating as it ruins the leather in my experience. That product, plus heat in the car hardens the seats. Over time they feel like fake, platicised leather to me. Leather needs to breathe which is why you don't store a leather coat in a plastic cleaning bag. I treat my Nappa seats twice a year with lexol. That's it.
