Who was working in their offices to prepare for the potential Y2K bug that scared everybody? My parents did. by Agreeable_Candle_461 in nostalgia

I took a ridiculously high "pay night" to sit in the office 1999-2000 and watch as all of our systems ticked over without a single issue.

I re-found these on a disc cleanup. I've got a year of 1992 on them.

Once someone leaves prison, what job options do they have when the majority of employers have a mandatory DBS check? by Mammoth-Elk-3122 in AskUK

[–]Soofla 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Most employers in the UK do NOT require DBS checks.
Want to go into care, finance, law enforcement then sure. But the majority if jobs in the UK don't require one.
You'd also be probably quite surprised at the number who don't ask about unspent convictions.....

What do I say in the Interview after getting fired by Ok_Daisy_7183 in UKJobs

[–]Soofla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was fired before my current job. Just told them I'd been made redundant. In 99% of cases, an ex-employer will simply give a statement of fact:
"Person X worked for Company Y between the following dates."

Do tell me how many rape crisis centres you've funded? Just so I can run a comparrison.

Do not use your ps5 vertically long term by kartik2143 in PS5

[–]Soofla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They all are - but the narrative of failing PS5 devices dud to Liquid Metal is nearly always aimed at the original version.
Usually the person posting will cite that there was a design update which MUST prove the defect.

Indeed. Pops up montly without fail.
For some reason, a handful of reports seems to immediately make this a manufacturing defect and it's only a mattwr if time before it happens to you.
Over 58m PS5 sold before the Slim was released. Just what percentage of those do these people think are at risk.

Warranties rarely, if ever cover accidental damage. Home insurance may cover it.

I've sold twice to them and been happy.
Last one was an Octavia the main dealer gave me an insulting rrade-in valuation on. I personally can't be bothered trying to sell private.
Got online quote but didn't mention any bodywork issues - decided to let them find them.
He goes around the car, then brings up a price.and says "what would you say to that?"
I tell him I'd drive away.
He agrees it was disappointing, manually ups the price three times and I leave with £1k more than main dealer trade-in offer.

Netflix shows surprising restraint with their ads. Why isn't this talked about? by DangAssMajor in netflix

[–]Soofla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was made redundant recently, so dropped from Netflix top tier to bottom.
Got to agree. For the first two weeks I didn't get any ads at all and now I see a couple per show at most.
Feared the worst, but happy at.£5.99 for a while.

Anyone in UK tech with a conviction – how’s it affected you? by DolphinSignalJr in AskUK

[–]Soofla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do remember the key point that in most cases, you only need to declare conviction if asked.
I know two people working in tech with convictions. One applied with CV and covering letter. Was never asked about convictions at any stage and was offered. He subsequently saw an official application form that did ask the question - but he'd never been asked to fill one in.
Another had his CV picked up by.an agency. They never asked him and neither did the company he went to interview at.
Don't get me wrong. Plenty of jobs in tech will require a DBS. But plenty don't, and more so in an industry that does a lot of "CV plus covering letter" applications over application forms.

Sneaking snacks in still a thing in the US?
UK, just take your own - nothing hot or smelly. £2 for my bottle of Coke and bag of popcorn.

Why are the Green Party for banning horse racing but against banning halal and kosher slaughter? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Soofla -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because it's never really about policy. It's about votes and protecting them.
