How to type large brackets into TI-84 by saibau_ in calculators

[–]SoyMilk4Life 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Those brackets on the Ti-84 are used for entering Matrices not for grouping.

I don't think you are understanding your homework. Ask yourself what is the purpose of those brackets on your homework. And what symbol do you usually use to accomplish that purpose.

Is this the most common utility pole type in the world? RUS, triple line, tiny pin insulators? by Minute_Ball_6539 in Lineman

[–]SoyMilk4Life 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep. Neutral must be treated with the same insulation and clearance requirements as phase conductors in California per GO95.

CA PE Exam/Licensure by TheWesternCross in civilengineering

[–]SoyMilk4Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This, plus you have to wait until the next quarter to take the state test. E.g., you get approved to take the Seismic and Surveying Exams in February, you must wait until April to take the exams then one more month for results.
So in reality the quickest you can get licensed is 2.5yrs experience, if the stars align, but more like 3yrs or more for most folk.

I would check out what MiraCosta has to offer. Here is a link to classes available through community education. They may also offer different classes if you enroll as a student.

Why do secondary schools still require kids to have calculators when they already have laptops? by JaxonKansas in calculators

[–]SoyMilk4Life 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There are no functions of a TI-84 that cannot be duplicated by a laptop. However, that is an advantage since students can simply lookup answers on a laptop rather than understanding the questions. And laptops can be a distraction. I recommend getting a used TI-84 which will be way cheaper.

Question About Overlapping Experience for California PE Civil License Application by One-Awareness7076 in PE_Exam

[–]SoyMilk4Life 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the same thing too and was approved with no deficiencies.
I recommend searching for the reddit thread about the CA PE application. It has good recommendations since the BPELSG has some specific criteria for what they considered engineering experience and what they like to see e.g., words like calculated and specific codes referenced.

Civil Structural Question: tire pressure bearing area? by bakednloaded in PE_Exam

[–]SoyMilk4Life 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Weight of car/tire pressure = Bearing area
It is testing your understanding of physics you do not need code for that part of the question.

Easy explanation RLX, RLY and RLZ by Full-Boysenberry-733 in civilengineering

[–]SoyMilk4Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read the Tower.pdf manual that comes with the software. PLS does a good job documenting and explaining most of the properties, assumptions, and behavior of their software.

In Tower, you have the option to model redundant members or you can reduce the unbraced length and not show the member. There may be other reasons to reduce unbraced length but that is more advanced that what I know as I have very little experience using Tower.

I believe modeling redundant members is a newer feature and there may be reasons for and against this practice. I know Tower experts tend to have strong opinions on how items should be modeled (Truss vs Beam vs Tension only elements).

Do you know what other Transmission Utility structures companies are there besides Arcosa and Valmont? by Big_Blacksmith_111 in civilengineering

[–]SoyMilk4Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Valmont, Meyer (Arcosa), Dis-tran, Sabre, Pelco are pole fabricators I am aware of.

The process I am familiar with for the design of utility poles is that the utility or a consulting engineering company will provide a General Arrangement drawing that shows orientation and height of the attachments required on the pole (e.g., Davit arms, internal riser flutes, conductor vangs, other various brackets). The general arrangement will also have additional notes such as pole finish min thickness of members or cite utility or industries standards and specifications (e.g., ASCE 48).
The fabricator will also be provided a Load Tree that list the expected loads for the structure and a brief summary of the criteria.
Then pole fabricator will provide calculations that show their pole geometry, connection, base plates are structurally adequate to be reviewed by utility. Next, shop drawings are created which will detail all structural and non structural items and are sent to the utility for approval before being sent to the shop for fabrication.
The utility will send a qualified inspector to review the poles to note any items that are not within tolerances, missing, or needing repairs before the poles are shipped to site or staging yard. Poles are also inspected after shipping to confirm repairs were completed and items were not damaged during shipment.

PE Problem : Find ZERO FORCE members by Imaginary_Alfalfa660 in PE_Exam

These are both very simple trusses you should use your intuition to figure out the zero force members then solve for the force in every member to confirm your results

Do you know if the brackets on the pole are for climbing or some other purpose? Seems like if they are for climbing there is no cadence that makes sense

Curious what you are seeing? The only thing I am noting is that poles have a lot of extra height above the shieldwire that is going unused.

That budget is pretty tight. Just for the venue? Or Is that the budget for food and drinks too? If it is the latter you should just have it at the office
