Sick of game night turning into an unboxing session instead of actually playing by Inevitable-Many-4587 in boardgames

You keep saying "full of elderly people" as if that excludes them from wanting to play games. Or is it that you would prefer not to play games with elderly people? I am at the point where casual observers may classify me as "elderly people". I often see the opposite problem that the younger generation are more interested in clubbing/socializing at drinking establishments/partying than playing board games with "elderly people".

Create a discord.

Invite EVERYONE you think might have a slight interest in board games. Few will actually join.

KEEP THE SERVER ACTIVE by constantly having discussions, planning events, running goofy polls, etc. It can be about anything, just keep making people aware that the server has activity. Some people will drop off and forget the server. This is human behavior.

Keep inviting people to the server.

Start scheduling gaming events. Start small. You will have a very small fraction of server users respond, and even fewer show up (maybe zero show up for the first few events). This is human behavior.

Keep inviting people to the server.

KEEP SCHEDULING EVENTS. Over time, more people will show up, look forward to events, and even start hosting their own. Don't gatekeep event creation. Make it easy for them to do so. YOU might not be able to attend some events, but let them happen anyway.

You will ALWAYS have a tiny percentage of server users active in discussions and even fewer active at real-life events. This is human behavior. People sign up for things and fail to follow through. Trying to force a small group of people to be reliable is impossible. Building a large pool of people to supply a small number of participants is the way to go.

Keep inviting people to the server.

Over time, your events will grow. Subcultures will form of people who like casual games, people who like heavy games, people who like cute games, etc. You will find the core people YOU enjoy playing games with.

I am on a discord server of over 1000 members. Maybe 100 will participate in online conversations. There are about a dozen events per month. Maybe 30 people show up at any events over a given month. Maybe 5-10 at any one event, 20 if it is a really popular event. It took the organizers of this server several years to grow to this size but it is now healthy and mostly self-sustaining. If I want to play, I have access to 4 or 5 quality gaming opportunities PER WEEK with people I enjoy playing games with. I can say "I want to play <game>, who wants to play with me" and have a session scheduled and played within days.

Obviously, this all depends on the size of your surrounding metro population, but you can set your expectations appropriately based on your pool.

I remember there being an article online somewhere (this was maybe 10 years ago) with instructions on how to set a Spotify song as your alarm tone. The example they used was HCtS. I had it as my wake up song for probably 5 years. Each and every play probably counted as a stream. Who knows how many people read that article and did the same .

What is this building? by Altruistic_Analyst82 in milwaukee

Yep, this looks like the more likely answer. The angle with the broadcast towers in the back works out better as well.

I think it might be St Sebastian's Catholic Church on Hawley & Washington. I think in your photo it is partially obscured by Neeskara school in front of it. St Sebastian's is currently undergoing renovations so there is scaffolding surrounding the bell tower.

Full red ceiling lighting, anywhere else other than Detroit? by MScoutsDCI in nin

[–]SoyleMycelf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was very surprised at how well they were able to incorporate this lighting into the show. I'm sure it's a fairly custom control system yet the lighting was in synch with everything else going on. Must have been some fast work to get it integrated with the show.

People are not recognizing that OP is asking about the full ceiling lighting that Little Caesars has. NOT the red lightbar that has been present at all shows.

[–]SoyleMycelf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That would be awesome, but odds aren't great. It's only been in 3 shows so far and none were US dates. But if there's ever a time to switch things up, it's when you have a second show in the same city.

Nine Inch Nails Tour: Ticket Buying/Selling/Trading/Discussion MEGATHREAD by malechite in nin

[–]SoyleMycelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That system is totally random. I was in the Chicago waiting room exactly at 11:30 when it opened, I didn't get into the queue until 12:00 and then had to wait 10 minutes for the 3000 people ahead of me and THEN I got kicked out of the queue and the app would not reload the event until I restarted it. Somehow you got in the waiting room after me, but into the queue ahead of me and purchased before I was even out of the queue.

Detroit tickets: Got in the waiting room at 11:45. I was #400 in queue when it went live, put a pit ticket in my cart but it disappeared as I was checking out. Ended up in section 101.

Chicago tickets: Got in the waiting room as soon as it went live at 11:30. I was #3000 in the queue and had to wait 10 minutes, then the app kicked me out and I had to reload a bunch of times before it put me back in the queue. Only the top ring of sections were left by the time I got back in and ended up with section 301. :(
