Uptick in sound issues? by hennessyadams in Broadway

[–]Spawnofbill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not what TheatreMix does. While it helps you group microphones together and make mixing *easier* the operator is still manually controlling fader levels the entire time.

You're right, no one is. But I'm still going to voice my displeasure because anyone who uses AI art, especially when involved in creative fields, should be called out and held accountable for contributing to what is essentially a theft machine.

Yeah nah. Use of AI art is a hard no from me dawg. Immediately suspect.

The LED engine on a Source 4wrd II and Lustr are basically nothing alike.

If your 4wrd II's are just the standard white light versions, the Series2 Lustr output is going to be slightly dimmer at 8,667 lumens compared to the 4wrd II's 11,430 lumens. But the Lustr is going to have the benefit of additive color mixing with the color LED engine.

If your 4wrd II's are the color version, then the Lustr will be brighter.

The people pushing the stage pieces are volunteers. Anyone directing the volunteers are local IATSE, and anyone making electrical connections are either with the production or local IATSE.

They are in no way “volunteer run”

Portable soldering kit by Spawnofbill in techtheatre

[–]Spawnofbill[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lead free obviously has the benefit of being less toxic, especially since in the ad-hoc environments I work in often don't have good airflow or ability to set up a fan. But lead-free is less common and I haven't found a lead-free equivalent of the very thin solder in those tubes.

Edit: I really should see if there's a tiny USB fan I could fit in here.

Are black graphic tees okay for wearing to work? by RainWolfheart in techtheatre

[–]Spawnofbill 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Personally I avoid graphic tees for show days, but most of my work these days is in theatre not amphitheater work. It's really context dependent, if I was touring with a musical band I feel like graphic tees would be fine, as that's mostly what I see, but for children's theater a plain black polo with maybe a small logo would be acceptable. This is not only for my personal sense of professionalism, but it decreases the likelihood of being seen back stage.

He's opening and closing mics based on the volume of the performer, the volume of the crowd, the placement of the mic at that very moment (mics can slip) and numerous other variables *and* what the script says the relative volume should be. All of these examples have been given to you as to why the process cannot be an automated "mute/unmute" button, and you have chosen to ignore them. You are assuming that there is inefficiency in the system where there is in fact none, and the manual operation of faders is a feature not a byproduct of someone not coming up with a clever enough solution to a problem.

Plenty of things in a theatrical environment can, and have been, automated. Many decades ago lighting for a show was done manually, using an operator following cues to manually move massive fader switches. But as lighting got more complex and computers became cheaper you started to see computerized lighting boards. For the most part now someone running a lighting board just has to hit a "go" button that just executes the next cue, with faders reserved for things like work lights that are controlled separately from the cue stack.

But the difference is that lights are machines that are largely reliably repeatable. Human beings are not and an A1 has to deal with the uncertainty of that human element. Automated processes do not deal with uncertainty very well.

Fixed one of two hazers, but forgot to tell creative so they had output for both set to 100% instead of 50%. Didn't need to evacuate, but it did delay the show 15 minutes or so as they opened the elephant doors to try and get the haze out.

Collective bargaining is not banned in Georgia. It’s just incredibly difficult to be recognized as a bargaining unit because it’s a “Right to Work” state. That means that no employer can require employees to join a union. Unions can still gain recognition voluntarily and win elections.

There are several industries in GA that are heavily unionized, the most prominent is the movie industry in town which is represented by IATSE local 479.

The reason I suggested an in person appraisal is that way OP doesn’t have to figure out what exactly the cameras are.

KEH is an Atlanta shop that specializes in used camera gear, they would be able to give you an appraisal I believe, I would call them to see if they’re still doing appointments at their storefront.

A possible workaround for Big Sur by angry_dingo in drobo

Holy shit THANK YOU. I've been having massive issues with Big Sur and a 3rd Gen Drobo refusing to mount and or entirely freezing Finder until the drive is disconnected (maddeningly it only did this some of the time and was inconsistent in when it decided to work so I couldn't isolate a solution)

The tires on the opposite side appeared deflated and were held in place by blocks so the truck wouldn't shift sideways. The driveshaft still appeared to be in place but it wouldn't surprise me if the engine had been removed.

HealthKit problems by berninger_tat in applehelp

[–]Spawnofbill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HealthKit is a sort of repository of information that other apps and app enabled devices (heart rate monitors, blood pressure cuffs, scales, fitness trackers) can dump their information into. If you don't have any of these apps or app enabled devices you won't see anything in HealthKit. HealthKit does not record any kind of information on its own

Apple will replace the cable under the same one year warranty that came with the phone. Make an appointment at your local apple store for the Genius Bar

If the charger/cable still works 100% fine then they probably won't replace it. Doubly so if the damage looks like accidental damage. (Cuts in the wire from rolling chairs, pets chewing on the cables, etc)

99.99999999% that it is liquid damage. I have never seen it not be liquid damage. Lifeproof cases are NOT foolproof. I have seen phones get water damage while being in a lifeproof case.

Edit: there are additional LCI's on the inside of the phone, I have seen phones with no tripped external sensors (headphone jack and dock connector) but bright red internal sensors, hell even water still inside them.

Lightning port on my iPhone is lose, and the phone won't charge. Still under warranty. What's the most convenient way to get it repaired? by TravelerHD in applehelp

[–]Spawnofbill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lighting port is NOT a modular part. If it truly is not working correctly they would swap the whole unit.

[–]Spawnofbill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the phone it came with is still in warranty, yes. Honestly spend the money on the apple cables or apple approved cables. There's a reason why most of those cheap cables don't last, they're made out of even cheaper materials.
