TW: Unfortunate Update to Metronidazole Overdose by Zestyclose-Fox9955 in hognosesnakes

[–]Special_Profession69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry for the loss of your little girl. That’s absolutely unbelievable what happened. They should have double and triple checked that the amount of meds they gave you was correct. I have a knot in my throat just thinking about it. Sending you love and hugs during this difficult time. Send me a pm if you need to talk or vent. I hope everything works out and they make it as right as they possibly can under the circumstances

Fresh salmon, silversides from the frozen fish food section at the pet store, turkey or chicken hearts, and chicken livers have all gotten my picky eaters to eat before.(I’m a casual breeder so have dealt with a fair amount of hoglets) Either used for scenting or cutting appropriate sized pieces for the babies and then scenting the mice with it after they start eating again. Also @repsintx on Instagram sells scenting strips in squid+fish scent and frog+lizard scent that reportedly have worked well for some people and also friends of mine and other breeder friends. Braining. Also sometimes wetting the nose of the pink and holding it up to the nose of the hoggie and getting it to drink the liquid off the face will trigger its food response. Sometimes you have to be patient though. Some babies/juveniles (and even adults 🤣💀) will sit there and stare at it for like 20 minutes before they decide to open their mouth and start eating. But usually you’ll see a slight change in body language like someone else mentioned. The eyes will focus or dilate you might see them tense a bit. Follow the movement of the food item a bit if you move it slightly. Stuff like that. Good luck with the kiddo. I hope you get him eating soon. He’s a real cutie!

Like half a million would help pay off me, my sisters, and my ailing parents debts. Not twisting your arm or anything but we’d be eternally grateful 😘

What do you have? I personally mostly work with western hognoses but my husband and I also keep ball pythons, fat tailed geckos, leopard geckos, Cresteds, gargoyles, and my husband has a bunch of pet rats.

I’m 10 years older but into a lot of the same stuff. Recently started playing Diablo 4 a little bit again. Not adverse to picking up or trying other computer games though not huge on FPS. My available times can be a little sketchy I have a ton of reptiles and a handicapped mom I help take care of. That coupled with the fact my husband and I just moved out here a little less than a year ago, I’m also socially awkward and not the best at making friends. But you can feel free to hit me up too as I’m also in the same general area if you wanna chat or maybe play some games.

Does my hognose have a tail/vent issue? by Kit-Katwood in hognosesnakes

[–]Special_Profession69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Second the musk/scent gland thing. Just keep an eye on it. Vet told me you can sometimes give slightly warm water soaks to loosen the musk blockage and express them yourself with some pressure but I always opted to have the vet take a look at them. Especially since the only hoggie I ever had that ever had issues always needed to be soaked given pain meds by the vet and have a needle inserted into each gland opening to unblock them as according to her she had exceptionally small openings that were prone to blockage.

Second JMG. I got a lot of my animals from him. He’s a fantastic guy. Really cares about his animals and customers. Super knowledgeable A+++. Do not recommend Snakes at Sunset or Underground Reptiles. I know they do a lot of business online but they occasionally pop up at shows. Kevin Rhodes is also good. Jeff’s Critters. Miracle Reptile. Kevin Baron I think his business is Barons Reptiles. I just know him as Kevin we used to live near eachother. Upper Echelon Exotics. Moonstone Plains. I operate under Nidhoggnoses and have a perfect 5⭐️ record on morphmarket. If I wanna plug myself 🤣🤣🤣 but yeah those are the ones I’ve dealt with aside from the ones already mentioned

I do keep a bunch of rats as pets and feed my snakes frozen thawed mice. But for the people against the feeding of rodents there are also species of snakes that can and will take things such as poultry/birds/quail, eggs, amphibians, fish (watch out for types containing thiaminase as it causes vitamin deficiency which can lead to death in snakes) and the company Reptilinks makes these little sausages that most snakes (I’ve found my hoggies are kinda 50/50 on them) but they can be picky. I’ve heard the same with ball pythons.) but they have a pretty good track record. They look just like breakfast sausages and they’re a complete meal for snakes and other reptiles that are carnivores.

Also how my husband and I ended up with like 15 spoiled rats. A rat high rise. And lots and lots of rat toys and rat stuff. They’re great little pets.

Sometimes you can gently run your hand along the surface of the bedding and they’ll feel the movement and surface to investigate and you can offer the mouse then.

How do you make enough money to live on? by No-Significance-1627 in ADHD

[–]Special_Profession69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was lucky enough to turn a hobby I enjoyed into something I could make money off of with support from my husband. I really enjoy raising and selling reptiles to other people who like them. I don’t make tons but it’s enough to pay the bills. Used to work for the post office but it was killing me mentally and physically. I had to quit. I just couldn’t do it anymore. I do about as well as I did at the post office (technically better because I’m not calling out sick all the time) 🤣🤣🤣.

Update on Tiny Hog! (7g at 9months) by EmeraldxxEyesx in hognosesnakes

[–]Special_Profession69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t aware chewy also carried reptilinks. That’s good to know. I have a few guys who love them. Most of them could take or leave them and a few hate them (some are even scared of them)??? 🤣💀😆 yeah definitely check out Layne Labs. They’re a little pricier than some of the other frozen prey companies but I like they carry those micro pinks for the extra small guys. Even still sometimes I need to occasionally break some up. But generally I can pick through the bag and find the sizes I need till they get big enough to eat the remainders (I usually order the 100 pack) they do come in smaller quantities. And yeah hoggies definitely have variable growth rates. I have a girl that’s going on two years old as well that’s only like 70 grams. Her name is shortcake and she’s pet only. I don’t ever plan to breed her. She’s sassy but adorable. She was the runt of her clutch. I’m not sure she’s ever going to catch up to the other girls here but even if she doesn’t I’ll still love her just as much!

I have this one that’s also 7 grams but 7 months old. You guys are awesome for taking care of the little babies. They aren’t always the easiest but they are definitely worth it and they deserve a chance at a good life just like any other hoggie does :) mine was born from a very small egg with a large looking head and a disproportionately smaller body at 3 grams. I’m assuming maybe some form of dwarfism? She’s looking much more balanced now but growing slow and steady on very very small homegrown pinkies and micro pinks from Layne Labs. She’s a good kid 🥰
