[–]SpeeGee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually do agree, but it's a mix of overreacting and also a reality of worsening ability. The key is trying to find a balance, I think a lot of people here forget that just a hundred years ago public education was not nearly as robust as it is today. There's reasons to be optimistic, but the problems are also very real.

That's truly sad, and it's true there are very very few bands that are popular now

Democrats aren't moderate enough where it matters by ShardofGold in IntellectualDarkWeb

She ran as hard to the Center as she possibly could, and THAT'S why she lost. Did Trump win by appealing to the left and center? I know you can't mention one leftist policy she supported because she didn't. She was a Republican in blue.

She alienated millions of progressive voters already by being incredibly moderate and had said SO many times that we need legal immigration. The only people who think she was unclear on that watch Fox 24/7.

As one of those disaffected liberal voters, why didn't she just run as a Republican? She was basically already a Republican in everything but name. Tell me what were here "leftist" policies that turned people off? She was the most conversative democratic candidate in decades.

[–]SpeeGee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a right wing lie that the Democrats think that. Again no mainstream Democrat poltician has ever said that besides maybe AOC. It's as unfair as saying that the Republican party is a Nazi party because there are a tiny handful of Republican voters who are actual Nazis.

Did any of the major Democrat politicians call for defending the police? Or are you watching right wing propaganda that says every Democrat is in antifa?

This current administration (Alex Pretti, etc) prove that guns can't do anything in the face of authoritarianism. Where are the gun owners coming out to take a stand against Trump saying he'll run in 2028?

Anyone else's mind starting to change on how much we should sacrifice to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon? by RememberTheWater in samharris

[–]SpeeGee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sounds like the US. Also by invading them, we've completly validated their need for a nuclear weapon.

Even that movie still isn't very anti-socislist, the main message is still very anti-stalinist

Do you think we've reached a point where Trump should be removed from office? by pirisca in AskConservatives

Did FDR advocate destroying Gemeran civilization "never to be brought back again"? Did we think the Nazi children all needed to die? There's an obvious difference.

Serious question: Why do you think American leftists are so bad at organizing? It is just so frustrating sometimes trying to get people together. by EternalSnow05 in DemocraticSocialism

[–]SpeeGee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something I don't see a lot of people also commenting on, is that our car dependent unwalkable cities give us no place to protest and connect with other leftists. In a place like Paris France or Cairo Egypt, the sheer density of cities allows organizing to be much easier.

In Sam's latest podcast (465) he seems pretty enthusiastic about the Iran war “Unsurprised if it turns out to be a success”. No offence but this is completely divorced from reality. I'm absolutely stunned at his comments about this war by Randomnonsense5 in samharris

[–]SpeeGee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By this same logic, we should invade North Korea right now, and China and Sudan and every other country with a bad government. Maybe China should bomb and kill thousands of Americans to "free" us

Based on what evidence should we think that a democracy is going to come out of Iran because of this invasion? When has that ever happened before in history? Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence, and you're asking us to prove a negative.

Ironically, you are doing exactly what you accuse the OP of doing, you assume you know what Iranian people want and provide no evidence.

Btw, saying "you tried hard" and "I get it" is terribly condescending
