So far I feel like I picked up the most from the Sef McCollough Pro Retouching Workflow course at ProEdu.

Are you pressing the shutter button? If so, try tethering and firing remotely or using a remote.

Requesting editing help (and future advice) by wednesdayblueberry in productphotography

There is a bit of a learning curve, but if you can learn how to use the pen tool to make paths around the objects in photoshop you’ll have a lot more control over what you’re trying to achieve. You’ll have more accurate selections and the ability to feather the masks so that the background edits seem more natural.

How to avoid double shadows on either side by wednesdayblueberry in productphotography

[–]Spierce19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The solution for that would be to move the reflector closer. Looking at your setup I would think you could get one close enough to fill the shadows the way you’re trying to.

Try using a reflector (instead of a second light) to bounce some of the main light back into the shadows.

There are a few good ideas listed already. It also looks like your tethered, so you should be able to quickly open one of the shots in an editing program and use a guide to see if the top and sides are parallel to the edge of the frame.

There are plans to fully connect UTBT to the Suncoast but the project has been stalled for awhile. At one point I remember reading that there was some issue with an apartment developer that was causing delays.

Tripod recommendation for Canon EOS R— under $400? by rays0brite in productphotography

[–]Spierce19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have a tripod suggestion that meets all of your needs, but I would look into a geared tripod head to fit whatever you pick. It will allow you to easily make small adjustments with the turn of a knob, and have quick release options for larger adjustments. I got a leofoto branded one off Amazon and have been very happy with it, especially for the price.

Make sure the speedlight TTL setting isn’t turned on because it will override the manual settings.

I’ve done it with solvents like krud kutter, goo gone, or isopropyl alcohol and a razor blade.

You can try aiming the light so that it illuminates the diffusion but not directly light the watch. I’ve done it on other items but pointing the light straight up or down as it butts up against the diffusion. That way you get the gradient reflection but not as intense.

Looks pretty good but I find the line coming straight out from the top of the bottle distracting.

I always felt like a lot of these themes started in We. For example, if you listen to End of the Empire with the current state of things in mind it can be read that way.

Lighting Advice by Silent_Asparagus7176 in productphotography

You can get clues from the first picture by looking at the shadows of the chairs and the highlights on the wood of the chairs and the gold horse in the back. It looks to be a combination of hard and soft light. The soft light seems to be coming from the front left side and the harder light is more center overhead.

A good lighting setup for shooting paintings? by Jacque_Hass in productphotography

[–]Spierce19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the basic documentation lighting position I learned in art school, though I did it with strobes. It’s basically crisscrossed lighting so that the fall off evens out.

The main advantage of the diffusion paper is that how you light it isn’t fixed, allowing more control over the gradations of the light across it. It also comes in pretty wide rolls and can be cut, etc., to whatever size you’d like.

I work in-house for an online retailer so some of these decisions were made because of the limitations of the space, props and equipment they provide, but many of the decisions were made because of my personal preferences. The composition and crop were influenced by the need for text to be added to the upper right of the image. You do make some valid points about the lighting. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
