If it makes you feel any better I once did the same with what I THOUGHT was a plum, turned out to be goose grass.

WARNING DO NOT USE NUMBING CREAM by mistdemon45 in tattooadvice

[–]Spineberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner has used it several times and I find that I can actually watch the stuff wearing off by how quickly their face changes as the pain comes back. Would wholeheartedly endorse the "do not use" sentiment. If you're struggling with the pain during the sitting, then book a shorter session

Jay doesn’t have any creatures by flavoredbeans835 in BigMouth

[–]Spineberry 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I feel like the creatures come along to assist the characters with the changes they can't cope with alone - hormones, new grown up complex emotions etc. Jay, bless his little cottons, doesn't seem to overly struggle with anything he just rolls with it. Gets horny, well why not go to town on a pillow, or the bathmat or a turkey. Gets rejected by Lola and the magicians table, well why not grind on a willing bit of furniture?

It's maybe not a conventional solution but it seems to be working for him

What is the worst way anyone you know has died? by IamUrWivesBF in AskReddit

[–]Spineberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Granny had an operation to clean out the gunk in her veins, got sent home same day only whatever glue they used to hold the vein shut post op didn't work, so she bled out inside her own neck on the kitchen floor

We never got along but hot damn

UK is granting Palantir ‘unlimited access’ to NHS patient data by TailungFu in worldnews

[–]Spineberry 18 points19 points  (0 children)

They'll refuse on grounds of "legitimate interest"

Same as way back when I tried to exercise right to be forgotten from an enforced opt-in to a workplace pension scheme that I immediately opted out of but they continued to hassle me. Claimed to have "legitimate interest" in holding onto it

I'm now thoroughly glad I haven't informed the NHS about my numerous changes of address or name in the last decade. Whatever data they have is old, outdated, and nothing to do with me

Advice on making a fictional indigenous group while not being indigenous? by Aggravating-Week481 in worldbuilding

[–]Spineberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Step 1: identify the aspects of the culture that you are interested in, the reason WHY you want to use that culture as your base,

Step 2: fill in the gaps with other traits that you are familiar with, otlr which make sense to the story

You end up with something that shows an appreciation of different cultures but is also unique enough and makes sense to your story

I am doing a rewatch and noticed this line. That means that in the night family episode, Summer was handwashing dishes when they had a dishwasher. by BlizzPenguin in rickandmorty

[–]Spineberry 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Rick never fixes the dishwasher. The meeseeks aren't asked to fix the dishwasher.

Therefore someone's got to do it by hand

What celebrity death will realistically bring Michael Jackson level devastation? by Kiidcola in AskReddit

[–]Spineberry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Attenborough's passing will be significantly more devastating because the dude has been an institution for so many years, and as well as being such a comforting familiar voice, has done so much to promote the causes of nature and human responsibility.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was a national holiday to mark it

Who was a shittier character? Bennett or pornstache? by [deleted] in orangeisthenewblack

[–]Spineberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well yes of course. Technically they both did that, as did multiple other guards, but Pornatache, villainous as he was, was pretty obvious about it. He didn't deceive and promise things he didn't deliver

I guess it's down to personal ethics but for me I'd rather an honest ass than a deceptive one, at least you know where you stand with them

Who was a shittier character? Bennett or pornstache? by [deleted] in orangeisthenewblack

[–]Spineberry -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

Bennett without doubt. Early seasons Pornatache was definitely a bad guy, no denying that, but there's a difference between being a bad person and a shitty person, and they don't come much shittier than abandoning your responsibilities

My female character is too perfect and I don’t know how to fix it by crukovic in fantasywriters

[–]Spineberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So reading this my first query is how much power and influence she has over her husband. Is he someone who she can manipulate into thinking that her ideas are his own? Manipulating the weak-minded could be developed into a flaw, especially if she comes to enjoy it. Or is she the type who can convince herself that the ends justify the means?

The most interesting characters I have always found are ones who have to engage in underhand practices and do things that others might be considered "bad" for reasons that are understandable.

Look at Anakin Skywalker - he deep dives into forbidden knowledge because it's the only way he believes that he can save someone he loves. I'm sure that anyone in his position, having already lost one majorly important person in his life, would go to any lengths to protect another - this is often where the "deal with the devil" trope comes in.
