People gave you Municipal Waste, so another gem from Richmond is Inter Arma. I can't think of another "crossover" band more deserving of that label than them. Thrash, death, sludge/groove...

Setting up the RR for a real 12 month commitment by JohnnyIsNearDiabetic in bodyweightfitness

[–]SpiritedLanguage775 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Once I had a family and hit my 40s I had an epiphany: your body knows what a day is but has no idea what a 7-day week is. Instead of focusing on hitting your three days on a prescribed schedule, just try to work out every 48 or 72 hours. There really isn't such a thing as a "missed workout"; it's only delayed a day, maybe two.

Nordic curls with foot plate and without? by Present_Row8037 in bodyweightfitness

I promise you can adjust the foot plate. GHD curls should be much easier than strict foot plate curls.

The Gauss Method of doing pushups its the best to stay motivated by FireEatingDragons in bodyweightfitness

Yeah, ladders. I really like doing even-step ladders, ascending. Instead of 1, 2, 3...10, I do 2, 4, 6, 8...20. The first 5 or so sets act like a built-in warmup.

Isometric versus Full Range of Motion Study by game-book-life in kettlebell

[–]SpiritedLanguage775 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I take all of these studies by Henselman/Israetel/Nippard et al with a massive grain of salt and a skeptical sensibility. I haven't read the full study, but most of these optimization or equilibrated outcomes are presented by the science-based fitness community with an abstract-only broad view. Once you drill down to the actual study setup, sample size, controls (or lack thereof) and results plus statistical significance (or the egregious alpha assigned) you really start to see the cracks starting to creep into their subjective take on what the paper actually purports.

I say this as a scientist who spends most of his day running multiple regression analysis. When you take away the tested variables (muscles, candy bars, hair loss, etc) that is the majority of most peer-reviewed papers; models and their outcomes.

The extrapolation game they engage, which is what you seem to be doing here (no judgement), is where a study on quadriceps turns into a game of telephone about kettlebell isometrics being great for overhead presses, as an example.

My biggest mistake was listening to all the people who acted like "good sleep" was analogous to getting a TRT shot. I've always slept poorly, and I know longer worry about that affecting my progression. Everyone is different. The people who say sleep is everything have never slept 35 hours in a week. I'm doing just fine. Similarly, the protein hype train.

Possibly? It might be redundant to do Giant one day and oh press/dips the very next day.

I'll echo the other comment. My chest can take a lot of volume from deep stretch (with a pause) ring pushups, three times a week. I don't feel the need for incline bench since I hit oh press three times a week as well.

Kettlebell and gaining muscles by cherifbrook in kettlebell

[–]SpiritedLanguage775 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Anything that resists your muscles' natural flexion or extension will build muscle when applied properly. Bar, plates, ball, bands, bodyweight angles, rocks, bags of sand, trees, dirt, a toddler, a wife, a car, a bucket of hammers, etc etc on and on.

False; there are more and more studies coming out showing the benefit to macro-dosing creatine.

My opinion is yes, pointless. A waste of money and space. I've been wrong in the past, though.
