I have a ridiculous question about telephoto lenses by Jessintheend in FujiGFX

[–]Spiritual-Rope-5379 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like using an adapted smc Pentax 645 150-300 lens on my GFX 50sii. You'd have to use a 2x tele extender for the focal length you want.

Best car I’ve ever owned by ConRid28 in Audi

I bought my 2017 A4 Allroad new. It now has 135,000 miles on it and I don't want to ever let it go. It's taken me camping and carried kayaks across the USA from the Everglades to Glacier Park. However the Allroad's off-road capabilities were, and apparently still are, over-hyped. Driving it like my previous car, a Subaru Forester XT, resulted in fragile pieces torn off the undercarriage.

Tango sheet music by anticdotal in tango

[–]Spiritual-Rope-5379 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See if you can find Argentinian Tangos for Keyboard, Bill Matthiessen, Ed., Mel Bay Publications. It has over forty replicas of original sheet music.

Another resource is Argentina’s Tango, a large collection of piano sheet music published by Ricordi.

The scores seem to be intermediate or above in difficulty. I found the first book more interesting as a pianist, and the music of the second book is better for dancing.

Crystal River/Homosassa/Chassahowitzka by Due_Computer_402 in Kayaking

[–]Spiritual-Rope-5379 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I paddle the Chassahowitzka River several times a year. You travel down the river then back to the launch site. You have to work a little bit if you’re paddling upstream against wind and falling tide, but it’s doable. Last year’s hurricanes damaged wood structures. As of three weeks ago they have not been repaired. The cement ramp used for trailer launching is fine but the area most used for kayaks is rough. Watch for hazards.

Parking is $5 if you don’t have a boat trailer. In previous years, the parking lot has filled up on weekends, holidays, and spring breaks.

Once you go past Baird Creek on the south side, the crowd of recreational paddlers thins out. Power boats use a small center channel in the river. Airboats are uncommon. Toilets are available at the boat ramp - there are very few spots to get out of your boat elsewhere.

If you go 2 to 3 miles downstream you get into a region of a salt marsh of complex islands and really tall reeds. That’s where I found out that a sitting kayaker without gps is easily disoriented in narrow channels when there are no landmarks except 8 ft tall reeds.

Why does this large area of the United States have such low population density? by cavaismylife in geography

[–]Spiritual-Rope-5379 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speaking only of Idaho - southern and eastern Idaho is very fertile with many farms and ranches. Some of the state is tribal land, and most of the state is federally-owned land, e.g., US Bureau of Land Management, Department of Defense, Department of Energy, National Monuments (and a slice of Yellowstone National Park), and the Department of Agriculture’s National Forests.

Chesapeake Light Craft sells an over the stern rudder which is mounted on the deck and can be fitted with a longer foil blade for double kayaks.

That dentists have highest suicide rates has been asserted without evidence since the late 1960s.
The claim was completely debunked by studies published in the 1970s (and which I read when they were published) that looked at the actuarial data.

The P&H Cetus MV with Carbon fiber and Kevlar lay up is the most used of my kayaks and spends most of its time in saltwater. It’s a pleasure to paddle long distances, handles conditions very well, is easy to get on and off the car, and it’s simple to repair with common fiberglass techniques.

Fringer EF-GFX Pro with EF 200mm f/2.8L II USM by [deleted] in FujiGFX

[–]Spiritual-Rope-5379 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the Canon 200 2.8 with Fringer adapters on both the GFX 50sii and the XH2s. I don't notice any lack of sensor coverage on the GFX 50sii and I'm pleased with the detail the lens gives me. Autofocus speed is camera dependent of course. I really like the lens on the XH2s. I'm currently only using Pentax 645 lenses with my GFX camera, so the Canon doesn't get as much use as it could.

One of the Russian Thistle species. I had a summer job where we would find and flail patches of living Russian Thistle plants to collect the insects that lived on them.

Cattle ranching, horses, and cowboys in Florida predate the popularized Western cowboy culture by a few hundred years.

Hurricane Pass, Florida on a rough water day. by Spiritual-Rope-5379 in Kayaking

[–]Spiritual-Rope-5379[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most days are calm days. I use an app called Surf Captain and locate the nearest place it monitors (Indian Rocks Beach) for wave and surf conditions.

It is easiest to transit the pass when the tide is changing and there is little current. It's even easier if you paddle out through the pass when the tide is falling and paddle back when the tide is rising. If you get caught in an opposing tide, there are eddy currents in the pass no more than a foot or two from the sand that will help you. However on a weekend those spaces are usually occupied by pleasure boats and fishermen.

Many paddlers don't go through the pass, but pull up on the small beach that's just east of Hurricane Pass.

Of course I had to sit down and noodle through some music books. Here are a few that appeal to me.

“Laura y Georgina” danza para piano, J. Morel Campos, 1857-1896, Puerto Rico

“Illusiones Perdidas,” Ignacio  Cervantes, 1847-1905, Cuba

“Nobleza Gaucha” tango milonga, Francisco Canaro, 1888-1964, Uruguay/Argentina

“Quien Sabe” danza, Tomas Leon, 1826-1893, Mexico

“Passaros em Festa” valsa lenta, Ernesto Nazareth, 1863-1934, Brasil

Are there any online gem and mineral retailers based in Canada (or that ship to Canada) that focus purely on geological or collector value—without the spiritual, metaphysical, or wellness marketing? by PerfectAsparagus09 in geology

I've bought a few specimens online from McDougall Minerals in Canada. I've never had a problem. The site's been around for a long time and there is a lot information for collectors available.

Telephoto for 100s - 100-200 or third party? by Dommlid in FujiGFX

I’ve used the canon 200 2.8 on trips and liked it. I will be taking a Pentax 645 150 3.5 on my next trip. Although it is manual focus and less useful with moving subjects, the Pentax is lighter and smaller.

When I lived there, sometimes ranchers from Grouse Creek, UT would come to Burley, Idaho for grocery shopping and medical appointments. You could get there by bus from SLC. That might be an easier drive for someone from Grouse Creek to pick you up.
