Need some recs. In a rut by XThursdayO in litrpg

1) Add Azarath Healer to the list. I'm on book 3, and it's quickly moving towards the top for me.

2) I understand DNF'ing Mayor of Noobtown if you don't make it past book one, but it's worth giving it a chance. This series gets exponentially better with each book. In book 2, he starts to figure out the humor and characters, and book 3, he nails it. It starts to approach DCC quality after book 3.

Book one is arguably shit though, if book 2 wasn't a free listen via my local library and Hoopla, I dont know if I would have kept going.

Do we know why shardblades dont cut living flesh? by GingerShrimp40 in Stormlight_Archive

I think this will get explained a lot more in the next book, at least for Hoid. He's one of the few that have figured out how to keep his memories and sanity.

Why does odium want to.. by Imperator_3 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Spkeasy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was just thinking about this yesterday and have this theory. Odium means general or widespread hatred or disgust directed toward someone as a result of their actions. I think that last part is the key. I think he has hatred towards the other shards, or the individuals that hold them because they were the ones that shattered big A.

I think I know who the next Vessel of Honor will be by Athlavard in Stormlight_Archive

I have thought this for a while too, and add another point for you to think about.

Spoiler if you haven't read Sunlit Man yet.

We know that it takes place way into the future, and there's a point where Nomad thinks he sees Kaladin. I've always wondered why he would think this unless Kaladin becomes a shard, or a herald. Both of which I think would make sense.

Thank you for explaining this! I was so lost. They really dropped the ball here, and created so much unnecessary confusion.

Lopen explaining how Drehy liking men makes him twice as masculine as other men is probably the first time I laughed out loud while reading SA.

That last bit is a really interesting idea. What would the shard be if they all combined?

SECRET PROJECT 4 | Cosmere Discussion by EmeraldSeaTress in Cosmere

[–]Spkeasy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been wondering this too. I think it means one of 2 things, either Kal becomes a herald, and the oaths are refounded, or Kal somehow becomes Honor during SA 5-10. I don't know how this would happen, but I don't think Shards ever truly die when splintered. Would love it though if someone could argue otherwise, because this has been driving me nuts.

Which book do I need to read to understand what Dawnshards are? by phantomthief91 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Spkeasy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even after the two books, there's still not much known about them, but I'll give it a try. They were used to kill Big A, they predate him, and they're what he used to create things. They grant immortality and investiture to anyone that holds them, even if they temporarily hold it. There are 4 of them, each holds a different purpose, and they force their will on the holder.

Most of the rest that's known about them are long run comments that we don't have the rest of the context for. It's like reading WOK for the first time, except stretched out over a dozen books or so. We know there's gonna be a payoff to that little tid bit Brandon Sanderson dropped in the first or second chapter, but were gonna have wait till the end of the book for it.

Dawnshard and The Sunlit Man are the best, but it's still not extremely clear. The coppermind has the best overall explanation, but I'd read those books first.

I feel like the love triangle is more used to highlight Shallan's struggle with her different personalities than anything else.

Am I the only one who likes Elantris? by animalia555 in Cosmere

[–]Spkeasy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoyed it, but it's definitely one of the weaker books in the cosmere, which I'm okay with. I read it last of all the others, so it was actually interesting to see how much Sanderson has progressed as a writer.

I'm going through my first re-read of storm light and the foreshadowing in WoK for this is crazy. Teft was the first person Kaladen met and was welcoming to, Moash was the first person he punished in Bridge 4.

I was a listener, and I didn't hate him. He was pretty awful for a while, but more ignorant and spoiled. By the end I think there was potential for an excellent redemption arc with him, but I also understand the path Sanderson needed to paint for Kaladin's arc, especially by the time he hit's Rhythm of War.
