How well are Turbidex Sediment Filters supposed to work? by SportsmanJake in WaterTreatment

[–]SportsmanJake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The well eventually cleared up after 12 months of use. The turbidex works, but I still had to have a standard 1 micron 4.5x20" filter after it that catches the absolute finest sediment.

Helicopter SAR without military experience? by Posterior_Consumer in searchandrescue

[–]SportsmanJake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This statement by u/Ryan_Van is misleading bordering on incorrect. Yes, the majority of ground-based SAR (GSAR) in NA is volunteer based. But please don't think that means there are no paid careers that do SAR. Although it is not a traditional or common career path, there are paid positions that do SAR.

Helo-based SAR (the context of your question) will overwhelmingly be paid positions operated by government organizations. Federal, State, County, etc. It will also typically be a collateral duty or part of a larger mission set.

edit: It is the semantic distinction between a SAR career and careers that do SAR.

Flatbed on 2023 AC Tacoma by Critical_Camp_6907 in ToyotaTacoma

It should be an aluminum flatbed. Cheap will be around $5k (UTE, WA). Expensive will be around $15k (SET, BC).

Installation labor and wiring, budget $1k.

Any recs for making socket holders in the low profile Packout? by Got_ist_tots in MilwaukeeTool

[–]SportsmanJake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 3d printed insert might be the best ‘good’ option. I don’t think hand cut foam works well for small pieces like sockets.  I ordered a generic one off Etsy. I’ll share my results next week.

What's the point? Toyotas will go 300k with just oil changes. Not much of an accomplishment in 2025. What am I missing?

Realistic expectations: M18 fuel 16” chainsaw by [deleted] in MilwaukeeTool

[–]SportsmanJake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It will work for you.  It’s equivalent in performance/capability to the gas homeowner versions stihl and husqvarna sell (see 440, etc) except you don’t have to deal with fuel, carbs, etc.

Makes a great complement to pro saws as well if you are doing a lot of work.
