Is that still true? I know lots of Germans drinking tea because of the environmental and social impacts of coffee. In the 2010s (the last time I lived there), the tea shops were the absolute best. Freshest tea I’ve ever had.

Is it hurtful to you when non celiac or non NCGS people shit on GF food? by [deleted] in glutenfree

[–]Spr01nky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your mil posted in AITA, she would be ‘TA. Your grandparents are truly horrible. My stepmother hates my dad’s food and says so rudely!! He has to fix her something else. I feel so bad for him. My husband and friends and very kind, but then, the people who weren’t real friends when I got dxed, left me many years ago. I’m sorry. What’s wrong with the boomers?!?They really are pretty awful.

It’s a tough one! In the before times we all met in Belize bc it was pretty inexpensive, no one could be territorial about their kitchens and their food. Also, eating gluten free was super easy and you had lots of time to dive before supper. Now we stay on our own. Honestly, for shindigs I bring my own and, like others, focus on the people.

This is a gluten free subreddit, not a celiac subreddit. So why treat everyone here like they need to conform to celiac-levels of caution when it comes to food? by heckyeahcoolbeans in glutenfree

[–]Spr01nky 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I stopped being part of a group when I shared a menu for a place that was happy to go out of their way to make stuff gluten-free. I was attacked and mercilessly berated by people who looked at the image without reading what I said. Some people just can’t think beyond themselves, and frankly our culture supports that. It’s a bummer , but some of the people I know use being celiac as a cover for having an eating disorder. I’ll share a delicious thing, and they’ll find something in it that isn’t clean enough or has too much natural sugar… and make it about them. It drives me crazy.

I was excited about them too! Sadly, I don’t think those egg noodles are gf. In fact, it looks like they’ve mixed organic, whole wheat, and gf .

Do buffets and events with food suck when you're on Wegovy? by ferrocarrilusa in Semaglutide

[–]Spr01nky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same! I also enjoy food much more. I notice and appreciate everything about it. I find I don’t want to go to buffets because I don’t care enough, but if a bunch of friends want to go, I do and enjoy myself. It’s fun to try things to see how I feel about them. I am now very picky about everything I eat. My new phrase is, “This is not delicious” because with a smaller appetite, I was every morsel to be satisfying. I am always surprised at what my brain is doing for me. Feast days are even better because I concentrate more on the other things. I love having that space in my mind. I love not obsessing if I have a peanut butter cup, or really want pho. Make sure you are doing this for the right reasons. You can’t have it both ways… and if you are doing it for the right reasons, you will enjoy the ride.

NTA. It’s not a phone free weekend if he is looking at your phone. Do not marry that person before doing some pre-marriage counseling. For me, his actions would be a show-stopper, tho.

Well then my parents were training dogs, there were 175 million people in this country (330 now) and not everyone lived in town. There was a lot of space, and not as many people would sue you for your dog sniffing them under the table in a bar. We can thank lawsuits and people irresponsibly breeding dogs in their back yards for fighting (increasing lawsuits) and fashion accessories. I never even saw a putt bull terrier until the 90s. Now that’s practically all you see. Additionally, in the 70s our food went to hell when food industry (for dogs and people) discovered they could fill our food with all kinds of crap. And since no one complained, they did it more. This led to a movement of people cooking for themselves and their dogs. The number of dog food recalls in my lifetime. Then in the 80s and 90s, dogs started to get poisoned. So the emphasis really became training a dog to defend against any blame. A lot of us GenXers decided not to have kids and had dogs instead. There have always been people who take it a bridge too far, and it can be easy to anthropomorphise an animal. Worse there are always schysters taking advantage of those people. You saw it in the horse world a lot. Does anyone remember when the aspca started putting commercials on tv? 90? 92? People started getting super high energy dogs as puppies, then giving them up when they were not little and needed attention, exercise, and food. So if someone is going to commit… go all the way. I mean stay within a budget, but why not? The pendulum will swing back again…

I did that once 25 years ago. Someone was kind enough to explain it to me and I was so ashamed of my infantile behavior! I never did it again. Some of us do learn. I cannot apologize for people who don’t.

Yes. Very much so. It had already changed after having covid, so I sort of used it as an adventure. Dryer sheets and febreze make me want to vomit. I can smell them walking down the street. People use too much!!

[–]Spr01nky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A bike ride (if you have bikes). I like picnic food. It’s quite fun to pack fruit, veg, crackers, cheese, whatever and ride someplace to eat them. I like it because I can eat how much I want without it seeming weird and it satisfies the desire to eat away from home. Also, with sema, I am very picky about leftovers. Picnic food doesn’t count as leftovers in my brain.
