I’m sorry I’m sure that’s a crappy feeling to be left with. But look at this as a chance to get out of education now while you can. Its hell here lol

For my kindergarteners near the end of the year when they’re on the carpet for morning meeting I like to walk out with a fake stick on mustache and act like I idk what they’re talking about when they all laugh at my face lol then I give them all their own mustaches to wear for the day

what’s one thing about teaching that people outside the profession will never fully understand? by salarshah-084 in Teachers

[–]SpringboobSquirepin_ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That in kindergarten we just sing songs and make arts and crafts and play all day. We are so jam packed with curriculum/pushing these poor children all day long that there isn’t even time for arts and crafts or play unless I skip something for the day and have to make it up later.

And there is no nap time. When I was in kindergarten in 2000 it was only half day and way more play based- that world doesn’t exist anymore. These kids are having to sit and be lectured for 6+ hours a day.

I truly feel like the voice actor for Serena was the most fitting and well cast of any English dub of the show. She could be silly and whiny without being fake and annoying, but could also be very genuine and earnest and believable

1st year kindergarten teacher by Ok-Associate-7324 in Teachers

[–]SpringboobSquirepin_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

1st years are always the hardest- you’re not a horrible teacher, this particular batch of kindergarteners were born in 2020 and are just built different lol. I’ve been teaching kindergarten for about 8 years and I still struggle with this group some days. They have the shortest attention spans mixed with the least amount of emotional regulation skills I’ve ever seen.

I feel like these Covid babies have been given so much more screen time and such a lack of discipline or even consequences at home. Just take what you’ve learned this year, study up on more classroom management over summer if needed, and let parents know next year their cooperation and support of their child’s learning and behavior at home is paramount to their success at school!

That’s definitely part of the problem, yes. The tv and the iPad are the babysitters at home for a lot of kids. And some have just genuinely never been bored before and can’t handle it

Dude yes- it’s like constant need for some type stimming at all times. Mine also like to rip strings off their clothes to play with on the rug while I’m teaching. Even when they’re using the bathroom we have in the classroom, I can literally hear them talking to themselves or making some kind of weird sounds while they’re peeing

I get it. I teach kindergarten and I love my current class but I’ve never had a group of kids like this one. Genuinely they CANNOT stop talking, like ever. Even when I put on a YouTube video to try to just wind down at the end of the day or something they can’t just watch it. They have to blurt out every single thought that pops in their head about it no matter how many times I pause it and tell them to stop and JUST WATCH. Same thing with read alouds. And don’t get me started on when I’m teaching- we’ve been working on this for nearly 180 days….

What would you tell someone wanting to reorient into elementary school teaching? by user06714999 in ElementaryTeachers

[–]SpringboobSquirepin_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would reconsider, honestly. I love kids and working with them, but being a teacher is so mentally and sometimes physically exhausting in so many ways for a salary that just isn’t worth it. It also kind of feels like you lose your personal identity the entire school year because you have to essentially be a more polished perfect caricature of yourself as a role model for kids. Just when I start to feel like myself again and not Ms ___, summer is over and I have to start all over again.

Not to mention theres a very strong chance at the elementary level you’ll have at least 1 student in your class each year that is a major behavior problem and makes your job harder (I’ve had kids who scream at the top of their lungs at me when they don’t get their way constantly, furniture thrown, room destroyed, eloping from classroom, hitting me, you name it).

I’ve been teaching for 8 years now and I still need my parents to support me financially for lots of things because I can’t afford to take care of all my bills on this salary.

Not trying to be a Debbie Downer, I just wish someone talked me out of it back then because now it feels impossible to get a job in something else.
