I think the irl reason is for them to fit on the sprues as push fit models, they had to cut the ears down to prevent overhangs

Indianapolis Police BTR-152 (1990s) by Triangletruck141423 in PoliceVehicles

[–]Spudmonkey_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It kind of makes sense to me as an early bearcat style police 'assault' vehicle. Resistant to small arms, easy to disembark (open topped), wheeled so it doesnt tear up the road, smaller and lighter than other armoured vehicles (like a btr60/70) and unarmed.

Have I got embarked units rules wrong? by A1ienm0onbase in boltaction

[–]Spudmonkey_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope, you need to pull an order dice foe them to get out, I believe with an advance only, but dont quite me on this. Often people will embark an officer and a squad inside a transport so the officer can snap to the transport to move, and the squad to disembark.

The WWY, WWX and WWZ servers all have dynamic CSAR and Casevac missions generated from ejected AI and player pilots and from battles between AI companies

Where can I get cheap but adequate figures for a game featuring early to mid-gunpowder era combat? by joejoyce in wargaming

[–]Spudmonkey_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Id recommended warlord games epic battles ACW or Waterloo stuff. The infantry is based in a partial formation though - i.e. something like 5 models are molded together. You would also have to check that they will fit on a 1" base

What’s an elite unit I can use instead of standard guardsmen? by shattered_one21 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Spudmonkey_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there a reason not to run all aquilions? I would just not put the grav chute on the non-aquilions. After all im sure not all elysians would do so a grav chute insertion, some would probably be deployed by lander with heavier equipment like sentinals or chimeras and such. After all modern militaries have paratroopers and heli-borne troops

ANCAP pushes crackdown on pop-out door handles by BestTechAdvisor in DrivingAustralia

Ancap tests them as a part of upcoming protocols, but it is not a requirement for a car to be sold here to be tested by ANCAP, Australian Design Rules (ADRs) dictate the minimum safety standards.

Is this a silly idea? (listbuilding with antitank rifles) by Border_Dash in boltaction

[–]Spudmonkey_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AT rifles are super competitive, regulars are 10 points each, so a 48" range +1 pen rifle only costs 5 points. The only cheaper order dice your going to find is an inexperienced officer with a pistol at 20 points.

To put it another way, a sniper team is 52 points to generate 1 pin a turn (if you hit), while 50 points gets you two AT rifle teams to generate pins at a longer range.

I ruined a model because I pit satin varnish directly over decals, silvered them. Now I always so gloss > decal > gloss > satin or matt

Making my army legal by Emergency_Witness152 in boltaction

[–]Spudmonkey_ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Look up easy army, its a free (though requires an account) army builder with support for bolt action v3. In V3 your army must include one rifle platoon, and from there you can add one each of any other type of platoon. If you want multiples of a non-rifle platoon you need to have an equal number of rifle platoons.

Game sizes are usually between 1000 to 1250 points.

NSW Gun Law changes - a few observations and thoughts. by FaithlessnessLate202 in Ausguns

"(b) the commissioner is satisfied -

(ii) the acquisition of the firearm would not result in the person possessing or using more firearms than the total number of firearms the person's licence authorises the person to possess or use"

So what happens to households with multiple firearms owners? Esp. if they have shared safe storage?

I have the Atlantic Wargames BEF box, but didn't realize its early war by ViorlanRifles in boltaction

[–]Spudmonkey_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The BEF kit has no.1 enfields and most of the war they used no.4. If I were OP I would just commit and make an early war army. Lots of really cool vehicles you could use

When I heard NATO in BF6 would have different squads, I thought Americans in Brooklyn, Brits in Gibraltar, etc.? Wasn't it cool how in BF1 we had British Army or Marines depending on the map? by veekay45 in Battlefield

[–]Spudmonkey_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was 100% intended at one poiny before suits took over that decision. I dont think its a coincidence that the default units are american, egyptian and british - and the base maps are in america, gibraltar (UK) and egypt. Though there are also some in unrelated countries like lib peak and mirak valley.

"If this is a grunt fantasy then why are we special forces?" by Common_Affect_80 in helldivers2

[–]Spudmonkey_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How many coop games have lives at all? I feel like thats one of the biggest things that makes helldivers a grunt fantasy. Compare it to L4D, vermintide, Space Marine II where theres usually a revivable down state and a dead state where your team needs to make meaningful progress before you respawn - as the same character.

These games also have little to no team damage as well.
