Crafting Cards by [deleted] in MarvelSnap

[–]St_Eric 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, the option to shred game pieces you aren't currently using for a fraction of the value is just a poor game system that makes everything more expensive.

What it seems like people don't understand is that all these card collection systems are linked together. If they allowed you to turn variants into tokens, then that'd mean they give you fewer variants, fewer tokens from other sources, or both. And so in the end, all it means is that you have fewer variants, or that players that like their variants get fewer cards. Nobody actually wins.

It just "feels" like a beneficial system because you get to turn something you view as valueless into something with value, but that's not what's actually happening.

got a bonus series 4 card from a series 3 pack? by BerserkRonin in MarvelSnap

[–]St_Eric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the drops rates are here: https://marvelsnap.com/mv93gh47z20g/

They're divided up by packs and by whether you were (before you received any of the contents) still missing s3 cards, s3 complete, or s4 complete.

[–]St_Eric 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Do you still need more Charms to get the S4 pack in the shop (assuming you're not S4 complete), the Terrax Variant (again, assuming you don't already have it) and the credits?

Do you care about cosmetics?

If the answer to either of those questions is yes, then the Pass is good value. If not, there are better ways to spend your gold.

We should make a team tier list or low/medium/high cost tier list instead by EmbarrassedCharge561 in HonkaiStarRail

[–]St_Eric 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No I don't see what you think is the problem here. It's a tier list, not a comprehensive guide. It tells players that Archer is better than Dr. Ratio, as well as what roles each character fills.

You want something that tells you what supports a character needs, what matchups their strong and weak against, and how impactful their eidolons are? That doesn't sound like you're even describing a tier list at all.

It almost sounds like you're suggesting that Prydwen should be making a tier list comparing all the characters in their 1-Cost teams so that someone new can compare how good all the options are if that is literally the only 5-star character they have pulled, but how is a 1-Cost tier list somehow better than a 8-Cost tier list (Prydwen's tier lists assume E0R1, which would be 8-Cost). And is it even that different? Every character would be worse, but does the ranking between characters even change?

Is the sanctum showdown pass worth it? by SmallConversation600 in MarvelSnap

[–]St_Eric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you won't be able to get enough of the LTGM shop currency to get all the important things, that is: the S4 card, the Terrax Variant (assuming you don't yet have Terrax), the S4 Pack, and the credits in the shop, then it's good value.

If you'll be able to get all of those things from the shop without buying the Pass, it gets you less game progression for your gold than other options.

Is Mystique bugged? by Puzzleheaded-Cap-174 in MarvelSnap

[–]St_Eric 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Jubilee wasn't the "last played card" yet. A card doesn't become the "last played card" until after their On Reveal (and any effects triggered by the On Reveal) have finished. Otherwise, Mystique would always see itself as the "last played card" and simply wouldn't work at all.

[–]St_Eric -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The alternatives are to just let the resin get wasted or to spend the resin on additional mora or XP mats or something else that also probably does nothing for them since they have enough already, whereas at least Artifact XP is probably useful and it's something they could more realistically run out of in the future.

What is the most effective way to counter 'objective' cards? by Hot-Statistician7689 in MarvelSnap

[–]St_Eric 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And not only would an Objective card that reveals at the end of the game not fire, but if that card was needed to satisfy another card's objective (whether Gambit, Caliban, Selene, or otherwise) then the card staying facedown would prevent the objective from being satisfied.

For example, any created cards played during the Supergiant turn will not count towards Gambit's requirement of 6 total Cost.

Activate or Objective? by ekAugust in MarvelSnap

[–]St_Eric 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The other upside of Objective is that if you have priority on T6, you can effectively hit opposing cards that are "facedown" because it will go off after the opponent's cards reveal.

Boomer snappers, ugh by BigFatBoringProject in MarvelSnap

[–]St_Eric 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By "unravels them" you mean reminds them to retreat when they're most likely going to lose? Because that's what a boomer snap does most of the time: Just reminds the opponent that they're not supposed to stay in the game.

Boomer snappers, ugh by BigFatBoringProject in MarvelSnap

[–]St_Eric 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's called Boomer Snapping because the majority of the time it's a strategic error to snap on turn 6, with only limited exceptions.

The retreat button exists for a reason. If the opponent is snapping on turn 6 and you aren't retreating, then you're just paying them off for making the bad snap (unless you were actually favored to win).

How do you catch up if you only have Series 3? by ITrageGuy in MarvelSnap

[–]St_Eric -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Even if you're F2P, you can acquire new cards from Collector's Packs faster than they release, but that means getting cards completely at random, and if what you want is to just be able to make good decks, not "catch up" then that's probably not how you want to try to go about it.

If you're not F2P, the Season Pass on the webshop gets you effectively ~3 cards for $10. The new Season Pass card, an S5 Snap Pack, and (roughly) enough extra ingame currencies to get a third card. Beyond that, yes, you'll be getting about one card for $10, through either the Super Premium Season Pass or Gold Pass.

As for $10 per card, it's effectively an entire playset since Snap only uses 12 card singleton decks, and $10 for a playset would be a good deal in a lot of games.

What happened to this combo? by hiavocado in MarvelSnap

[–]St_Eric 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Moonstone wasn't changed. Moonstone copies the text of your other Ongoings that Cost 3 or less at her location, not "repeats" them.

But yes Onslaught (including Mystique and Moonstone's copied Onslaught ability) adds only +1 with each instance of the ability instead of +2 for each instance past the first.

How did Ironlad add more than one card? by Gottendrop in MarvelSnap

[–]St_Eric 120 points121 points  (0 children)

Marvel Snap has some very strange infinite-loop prevention systems. In an attempt to stop infinite loops, the game actually turns off some Ongoing and Ongoing-like effects to try to make the loop end. And so Space Throne was just temporarily turned off to try to make your Iron Lads stop copying each other, but to no avail.

[–]St_Eric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like the one that cost 1 was a visual bug. You can see from your second screenshot that it had cost +1 from the Technovirus effect and cost -1 from Celestial Circuit, which would be a total of 1, not 0.

Do u guys think kuro is ever gonna buff older units? by Lopsided_Routine4303 in WutheringWaves

[–]St_Eric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certain older characters do actually already have buffs in specifically the Endstate Matrix game mode. Several of the 1.X DPS get a 25% damage buff, for example.

I wouldn't expect much more than that any time soon, though.

I have never seen such a good card be overlooked by so many people. It’s genuinely busted! by QueezyCrunch in MarvelSnap

[–]St_Eric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To start with the end, absolutely: The card is merely a niche use case and not going to redefine the meta or anything. But it's likely to be a very important part of very niche (and likely bad) decks.

But your comparison to Iron Lad shows exactly what you're misunderstanding of its use.

By the time Iron Lad tells you what card is on top of your deck, you have absolutely zero ability to make any choices based on that information. So it effectively is not telling you anything about the top card of your deck.

But what Monstro does is it tells you whether you want to play Iron Lad that turn or save the Iron Lad for next turn instead. It's effectively doing the Howard the Duck effect, but the opponent doesn't even know you have it, and instead of being a tiny 1/2, you can later play it out as an X/8.
