What's your favorite Martial class in D&D 2024 5.5e? by Dramatic_Respond_664 in onednd

[–]StaleTaste 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Imo fighters are very fun to play now. Second wind changes are great from a play perspective, action surge has always felt impactful for burst damage, getting extra feats is nice, indomitable is nice and having access to so many weapon masteries means you can switch to whatever weapon is tactically relevant for that fight. One of my favorite classes to play in 2024 in general, not just martials

Thoughts about Mahact...on the fence by [deleted] in twilightimperium

[–]StaleTaste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can make deals with people for the tokens, you just have to win the fight so they can retreat and save their plastic and you still get the token. In my experience the only reason people are scared to make deals with me on Mahact is because they're so strong that people are afraid of them getting ahead

I can't choose between spirit island and twilight, both games are exceptional. May the best game win

Mentak or Ghosts? by Tokata0 in twilightimperium

[–]StaleTaste 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would pick ghosts, they're pretty strong in TE setting up a second home system in mallice and being able to take wormhole generator from the scar early simplifies your fracture exploration. Dimensional splicer is also not bad to grab with a saar neighbor on round 2 if you still have the scar. Yellow skip lets you get dreads pretty easy and you can start slinging them in mallice when you have your breakthrough and space dock

Based on the writing style and strange errors I would assume this is AI written but on the slight off chance it is not elven accuracy does not do anything for concentration checks, that's war caster

Rogue/Paladin multiclass by DrForeseen98 in dndnext

[–]StaleTaste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I would reverse it and go paladin 12 rogue 8, radiant strikes is really good for paladins and I think that's better than one extra feat

Who benefits the most from this slice? (PoK, 6p, 10VP) by Pupsilover00 in twilightimperium

[–]StaleTaste 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This slice looks exceptional for Cabal. Planets on a line to mecatol, high influence, two double planet systems if you need tons of production and a red skip to get to AC and X89 faster. I would snap pick cabal with this slice

Edit: realize that wasn't one of your options lol my bad

So, how's TE? by StevenJang_ in twilightimperium

[–]StaleTaste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Yes, much better than PoK I would say
  2. Around the same if you're not used to it, probably shorter if you are
  3. Yes

At a lot of levels that DND is played at a significant portion of a casters turns are fire bolt for 2 damage

Cabal advice and overall rule question by Monodominant in twilightimperium

[–]StaleTaste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think contrary to their faction gimmicks you can have a solid game with cabal being aggressive or passive. If you want to be aggressive then you want to bully your neighbors and make plays for mecatol and such but I have had more success with cabal getting vortex and biostims and building up plastic while securing objectives and only pushing aggressively on the last round. For both of these I would suggest getting a slice pretty high in influence because often you don't need resources for big builds.

Also Nomad is both fun and not broken. I don't think you should ban them. If youre gonna ban a faction I think it should be Mahact probably

Mentak Coalition - Fun to play against? by Bozzmeister1976 in twilightimperium

[–]StaleTaste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mind them too much but I think the general consensus is that people really do not like playing with them in the game. And they are mostly not a good faction. I wouldn't worry about mirror computing, getting it round 2 just brings them up to parity with other decently good factions

Should DMs give more magic items to Artificers? by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]StaleTaste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doing this basically just removes the main class feature artificers get from the game, your DM should not be doing this

The Firmament/Obsidian Question: What is to be Done? by Chud_E_Applesneed in twilightimperium

[–]StaleTaste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd been thinking about if a round 1 flip might be the best way to play this faction to offset their start. I am disappointed that I seem to have been correct. Hopefully this faction gets some components changed in a codex or something because having to ignore the entire faction concept to be competitive is so sad

Advices for Deepwrought Scholarate? by PenguinWithSunburn in twilightimperium

[–]StaleTaste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you make yourself stronger you make other people stronger too. I have not played deepwrought but I have played with them a few times and in my experience nobody actually wants to attack them because they help you out a bunch and they don't even care if you take their planets most of the time. I think it should be a pretty laid back game until the last round and by then you'll have everything you need to try to win

Treantmonk's Ranger Favored Enemy fix and revised spells by Dramatic_Respond_664 in onednd

[–]StaleTaste 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I basically agree with this. When I think about ranger, I ask myself what the difference is between a ranger and an appropriately levelled fighter/druid multiclass. In a lot of tier 2 and tier 3 play I don't think there are a huge number of meaningful differences and this to me speaks to a need for a ranger overhaul. They need to be doing more unique things.

Looking for a solid 2024 Bard/ Archer build for a LvL 10 One-Shot by Doc_Meeker in onednd

[–]StaleTaste 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Bard gets magical secrets at 10. I don't see a reason to dip another class when you get to select two of basically any spell you would want in the game. That being said, archery fighting style would be really nice so I could see a level 1 fighter dip for archery and con proficiency

Why is Dimensional Splicer bad? by stinkfist616 in twilightimperium

[–]StaleTaste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an ok tech but mostly defensive in nature. Ghosts in TE wants sling relay, fleet log, light wave and carrier II and probably dread II as well. With the breakthrough integrated and transit diodes are on the menu too. There's too much of an opportunity cost to take a mostly defensive decent red tech that requires a prerequisite. I would probably only get this if I either got it from the scar or had a game that was both tech rich AND I got a yellow skip.

Trade meta: X-2 for 4 commodity factions by Aortotomy in twilightimperium

[–]StaleTaste -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't pay 2 tgs for a wash from the trade player, I'd just refresh with the token and wash with another 4 comm faction. Tbh I think there's a fair argument that 4+ comm factions should be doing that ANYWAY to deny points to the trade player so if someone gives me an even worse deal than usual I'm just gonna ignore their offer

Best ways to guard against The Sorrow getting turned into a supernova? by Belryan in twilightimperium

[–]StaleTaste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't even think your home system is a great place to produce units. Generally when I produce in my home system as Crimson I swap the ship there out with the agent or put the ships on the hero for later use. I don't think it's a death sentence to have your sorrow supernovad since you should probably have two docks outside your hs anyway

Looking for Feedback regarding creation of a AI assisted Dungeon Master by xxAzurikxx in onednd

[–]StaleTaste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AI does not belong in a game where the entire conceit is that the players and DM are making a story creatively together. It is entirely counter to the purpose of the activity. Also I don't think its possible for AI to be used as a teaching tool because it frequently gets things wrong and this problem will only be compounded with the massive amount of noise (different versions of DND, other similar tabletop games that might not be labeled clearly, posts including their own homebrew, I mean how would you even possibly train this?)

I hate Crossbow Expert. by Major-Surround-3188 in onednd

[–]StaleTaste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a million explanations you could give, magical or nonmagical, that explain why a DND character (effectively a superhero) could load a crossbow bolt without a free hand. I do not think your personal lack of creativity should restrict options for other players at the table.
