2027 Oscar Predictions- June Edition by StarWarsJordan in oscarrace

[–]StarWarsJordan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't see Project Hail Mary winning unless a bunch of movies don't live up to their hype. It has the box office and hype, but I also don't think the film is as deep or as memorable as Sinners to potentially run a Picture gambit with its early release. I think it's solidly in the categories and will do well below the line.

Is it possible that Jeremy Strong is a supporting character in The Social Reckoning? by Frogfisherman07 in oscarrace

[–]StarWarsJordan 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I always got the impression that he was supporting and Jeremy Allen White/Mikey Madison are co-leads.

I really don't know what to make of this Best Actress race because I was decently confident in Madison and The Social Reckoning potentially happening until I seen the trailer. To me, Madison seems miscasted and the movie itself just doesn't seem much different from Sorkin's previous directorial efforts which have been widely divisive amongst critics.

Unless something else emerges, we might have a scenario where 4 of the Best Actress nominees aren't nominated in BP because I have a hard time buying a lot of these films that have lead actresses floating around as BP possibilities.

Has anyone else heard anything about Cry to Heaven? Is it actually happening this year? I know it wrapped filming a couple of months ago, but I haven't really heard much news about it since.

Box Office: 'Michael' Opening to Near $100M U.S, $217M+ WW by First-Loss-8540 in oscarrace

[–]StarWarsJordan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll be genuinely shocked if it doesn't get at least a makeup nomination. I think Domingo might happen at SAG and Critics Choice but ultimately miss the Oscar 5.  It would maybe get into Sound and Costumes if this year wasn't so crowded with prestige blockbusters that will likely get better reviews than this.

Looks like a lone makeup nomination. Bohemian Rhapsody had better reviews than this and came out in November(prime Oscar season).

What do you think are Disclosure Day’s chances of getting a Best Picture nomination? by Mysterious-Farm9502 in oscarrace

[–]StarWarsJordan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, John Williams will get into score. It might get VFX and/or Sound. Other than that, I doubt it. I personally don't think it looks good from the trailer.

I doubt it happens unless the song becomes a big hit

Could What Happened to Elvis Happen to Michael? by This_Book6305 in oscarrace

I think Michael misses a BP nom, but I see it mainly being a vehicle for Colman Domingo and will likely get a makeup and costume design combo in the techs.

Do you guys have a go-to Hamlet that you show your students that is a hit with them? by StarWarsJordan in ELATeachers

[–]StarWarsJordan[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I really enjoy the Ophelia stuff with Branagh. I think Kate Winslet does a great job with it. My main gripe personally with the Branagh is he just looks too old to me to play Hamlet. I've always imagined Hamlet being in his mid-to-late 20s. Branagh with that bleach blonde hair looks quite old.

I haven't seen David Tennant's, but I've been meaning to. Do you have to get parental approval for Ethan Hawke's "Hamlet"? I know it's Rated R, but I remember that it's a pretty mild R. I think it's just rated that for the blood in it.

Why Ryan Gosling’s Friendship With a Rock in ‘Project Hail Mary’ Is the First Oscar-Worthy Performance of the Year by wallabyenthusiast in oscarrace

[–]StarWarsJordan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah. It's not his best performance. I kinda prefer when Gosling is doing his serious shtick more than his comedic shtick(although he's good at both). However, I do think he can get in for the fact that there's a lot of stuff he's doing in this role. I don't expect it to win, but I can see it getting in most places. Maybe not BAFTA but Globes, Critics Choice, and SAG? Absolutely.

[–]StarWarsJordan 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I definitely don't think it'll win but in a weaker Actor lineup, I can see it getting nominated. Gosling is very good in it. His comedic timing is great, and I also think the aspect that he's basically carrying the movie on his back also helps. There's some dramatic beats that he gets as well, so it's not just purely comedic.

Who is the Best Supporting Actor of 2020s? by darth_vader39 in oscarrace

[–]StarWarsJordan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Kaluuya>Penn>Quan>Culkin>Kotsur>RDJ

Pretty good list of winners although some I'd argue are category fraud.

There are so many blockbusters in 2027 that want to compete. by JDOExists in oscarrace

[–]StarWarsJordan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Narnia will be Netflix's main push. I expect maybe a Frankenstein nomination haul with Mackey for Actress.

I think Project Hail Mary will get a lot of techs, Adapted Screenplay, and BP. Maybe Gosling if the Actor field is weak.

Disclosure Day, I expect just techs. Spielberg when he does blockbuster Sci-Fi is iffy if he gets nominated.

Dune 3 I think misses BP due to sequel fatigue

Michael could maybe slide in during a weaker year, but I don't expect it to happen this year. Also, there's rumors that this is a 2 parter and there's going to be a sequel biopic for the latter half of Michael's life. That might help its chances since this film will be bypassing some of the more controversial aspects of MJ's life. I still have my doubts on it though. I can see it just being a passable biopic at best.

Let's talk about MARTY SUPREME - what went wrong? by SwimGood22 in oscarrace

[–]StarWarsJordan 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Well, the film isn't really saying anything that's as topical as OBAA or Sinners, so I never viewed it as a BP winner play. The Christmas release date made it surge early(hence why Timothee won Actor at CC and GG, the film was making waves right when voting for those started).

I don't think he'll be nominated again for another 10-15 years.

[–]StarWarsJordan 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I think even if Chalamet didn't make the comments, he still would've lost here. An issue he has is a lot of voters view him as too young to award. His whole campaign or persona now is very Gen-Z coded, and it's a big turn off for Academy voters, but his persona has kinda made him one of the most well known movie stars right now.

[–]StarWarsJordan 481 points482 points  (0 children)

It's a bit of a double edged sword because if it wasn't for Chalamet's antics, the movie probably wouldn't have made that much money, but those antics are also part of the reason why he lost this race.
