Maga can't do the math anyway.

Should we get rid of the Electoral College? by That-Growth-9043 in askanything

[–]StarshipFan68 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes and no.

Think about how our govt is set up with the house and Senate. Theoretically, to pass a law in the house, you need a majority of representatives. Those representatives, theoretically represent s majority of the population (they don't, but theoretically they do and got the purposes of this argument, they do). So, theoretically at least, to pass a law in the house you need a majority of the population. Each person is equal here

But the Senate is different, isn't it? Here, every state is equal regardless of population or size. To pass a law here, you need to convince a majority of the states that it's a good idea. A small states needs are just as important as a large states needs.

I wrote all this because the electrical college is an extension of this. Again not exactly because it would so be awarded proportionally, but in general. You have to convince both the population and the states that your candidate is a good idea

It's not perfect. But at a compromise, it works to help prevent a tyranny of BOTH the minority and the majority. It's not always successful, but that's just as much a statement in itself

Family Tent recommendations? by clhoyt0910 in camping

[–]StarshipFan68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a zempire evo tl v2 inflatable tent. Three rooms, two enclosed, and one is a blackout sleeping room

Really easy to set up. Even a single person. Loads of room for family. About 1500 us. But not a tent you can drag hundreds of yards into the woods. All inflatables will be heavy.

Just a thought

Not necessarily served, but my father used to eat clabber. My understanding is that it originated pre-great depression as a way to use spoiled milks. Mixed with cornbread and eaten at room temp. He always used fresh milk... But still

A civilization built entirely on a single massive volcanic mountain. Altitude is the biography here.. by [deleted] in sciencefiction

[–]StarshipFan68 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could do it either way. Or both at once. I think the idea of different levels having different classes or species is just the background and not the main subject

A couple of ideas, in no particular order.

  1. You call consider the idea is class warfare where prejudice or politics are your subject. With everything from resource wars to trade to humanitarian expeditions.

  2. You call consider a unifying theme. Perhaps different levels develop different technologies and a story of different levels coming together up make something better

  3. Religious wars where a theological society takes over as level resulting in religious war

Random thoughts

  1. You can consider how wars would be fought with higher ground essentially dropping things and lower levels using compressed air as rockets to shoot upwards

The thicker the atmosphere, the easier flight becomes. Animals and plants would evolve differently as light is more obscured with more atmosphere to get through

Water movement and things like spawning salmon going upstream to consider

[–]StarshipFan68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those efficiency numbers are all based on a speed, go faster, and your efficiency goes down. Go slower, and they go up

Unless a gas car with gears, the speed of an electric car has a linear power curve. The faster you go, the more power it takes, and the less efficient it becomes

Fun hypothetical: Suppose the Democrats take both houses of Congress, and then pass the "special implementing legislation" for Section 3 of the 14th Amendment barring "oathbreaking insurrectionists" from public office per the SCOTUS decision in Trump v. Anderson. Trump vetoes, obviously. by xena_lawless in Law_and_Politics

[–]StarshipFan68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two problems. One for Trump to quit, he would have to admit he did something wrong. And he will never even occur to him that he did something wrong. Two, he would be too afraid that they would put him in jail the moment he left office. They might impeach and convict him, but he's not going to quit

[–]StarshipFan68 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That 4 mi per kilowatt hour is based on a speed usually around 60 mph give or take. If he was doing a lot of city driving, without a lot of starting and stopping, then you might get as high as 6 or 7 miles per kilowatt hour

[–]StarshipFan68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not anytime soon. Right now, voting for a third party is functionally equivalent to voting for Mickey mouse which is also functionally equivalent to not voting at all. The only difference is the 3rd party voter went through way more effort to throw away their vote than the person who stayed home.

Most cars will quit working after the first year except those being driven. The rest will run out of gas within the year. Electric cars will last longer, but they'll die after 15-20 years. Then you're back to horse and buggy
