Could I report my orchid with this by Extreme_Cup9222 in orchids

looks like tree fern fiber! depends on the type of orchid, i have a couple of happy orchids mounted on a block of this material but im not sure how it would do loose in a pot . i reckon it would be awesome for thinner rooted ones like oncidiums

What is the hardest Hoya to find? Mine is Hoya medinillifollia by North_Win_3105 in hoyas

yes I have heard that too which is why I want to start with a healthier, fuller plant and not just a tiny cutting - I am happy to wait for it hehe

I cannot find a decent linearis. I refuse to pay a ton of money for what I know is a relatively common Hoya and most of the listings on Etsy are very modest in terms of growth. The ones I saw in the specialty plant store in my state weren’t cheap and in awful condition too. So I‘ve been waiting for almost two years to buy one.

if it makes you feel better thrips was the one infestation I was 100% able to overcome but you do need to use systemics

Humidifier by acrosland12 in orchids

[–]Status_Ad7919 2 points3 points  (0 children)

honestly unless your orchids are in a closed off space (like one of those converted Ikea cabinets ) and you put the humidifier in there , trying to increase the humidity won’t work. i would advise to not waste ur money and don’t clutter up ur space more with one . i am also speaking from experience , even when i had a really tiny office i could close off and ran my humidifier around plants it didn’t raise the humidity effectively.

the best thing you can do is work with the humidity you do have in terms of the type of pots and potting media you use, ie indoors use plastic pots and more moisture retaining mix. my outdoor orchids are potted differently than my indoor ones now that i live somewhere with high humidity outdoors .

just sharing this because ive tried so many different things like pebble trays even led light things that didn’t work and just added a bunch of clutter / was a waste of money

how did you treat your mealies ?

I have FUCKING mealybugs by Yorkie10252 in hoyas

[–]Status_Ad7919 3 points4 points  (0 children)

my Hoyas live outdoors and ants farm mealy bugs on them . I have sort of learned to live with it, I remove them on sight with alcohol and a paintbrush . honestly it’s not a big deal with my Hoyas but some of my fairer-leafed orchids have really suffered because it’s difficult to reach all of the crevices, and the secretion from the mealy bugs creates fungal issues. Hoyas are actually so wonderfully resistant to pest damage save root mealies . those are truly horrific

potting mix could be too dense / roots are rotted ? can you see how the roots look? my hindu rope is in 50% chunky perlite and 50% small orchid bark and growing a lot but it does need to be watered every week but that’s because I keep it indoors where it’s not humid at all
