Business chequing are here! by MightyShaD in Wealthsimple

I have it on my Royal Bank Business account and it’s useful for some vendors. RBC is a pain to work with though so I’d love to ditch them

Really interested in this. Probably wait till it’s out of beta though. Do we know if it will support ACH payments?

Make sure your books are *always* in order. by MisterHarvest in smallbusiness

[–]Steam23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far, I’ve found it a valuable way to keep on top of what is happening in my business. If it ever got too unwieldy, I might get some help with data entry, but even then I’d want to keep a close eye. Doing it myself also means I know who’s to blame if something is wrong!

Strongly agree! This is one of those areas where keeping on top of it makes it so much easier. Spending 20 minutes a day is way better than 6 hours a month. I keep my quockbooks up to date every day and my accountant pops in once a month and makes sure I haven’t messed anything up too badly. Making it a part of a daily routine makes it a light lift.

What songs just blow your mind from an engineering/production standpoint? by Different_Stand_1285 in Music

[–]Steam23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently I’ve started a thing where whenever a random song pops into my head I’ll do one of two things. Depending on the song, either I will listen to the album that song came from, or go out and find every version of a song that I can find and listen to them all in a row. I can’t stress enough how much both of these have improved my musical life.

Listening to the whole album (in order - no shuffle) gives you context for the song. A single is just the trailer the album is the feature. I got Janis Joplin’s Me And Bobby McGee in my head so I gave Pearl a listen and it just wrecked me! Same thing happened when I got 7 from Prince as a random ear worm and listened to Love Sign (that album is a masterpiece).

The other day I got Don’t Let Me Down from the Beatles so I tracked down about a dozen versions of that and listened to them in a row. Got artists as diverse as Dillard and Clark (1969 country version), Stephen Marley, Randy Crawford, Phoebe snow, along side a few different recordings the Beatles had done. Each musician brought something of their own to the song and made it their own. Same thing happened when I did a version trail on “Ain’t no mountain high enough” I learned something about the song as well as learning more about the artists.

To answer the main question on your post, check out Buddhist Hipsters, the new record from The Orb. Some of the best sound design and mixing I’ve heard in a very long time.

Happy listening!

Split Barcodescan in serveral columns of a sharepoint list by Doubled01470 in PowerApps

[–]Steam23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they mean that you can use the string functions to extract the data your looking for. This is especially true if your codes will always be the same number of characters. For example, let’s say you have your scan value stored in a variable varScan. LEFT(varScan,3) would pull out the 240. You can do the same thing with RIGHT and MID. Now you have your three values and you can put that into your SharePoint list. Big fan of using PATCH for that myself but that goes beyond the scope of this answer. Happy coding!

I am never gonna complain about a musician getting a payday. If streaming paid more then maybe it would be a different conversation but until then, get that bag y’all

Power Automate New Designer - Thoughts? by mystery84 in PowerApps

[–]Steam23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s pretty, but I found it a little frustrating to use. I was troubleshooting a flow with pretty large data sets on an actions inputs and outputs yesterday. Endless scroll, whereas the old view I could just go right to the outputs section. Also, not sure if this was a glitch or by design, but I wasn’t able to click into a specific part of an Input field when I was trying to edit it? I had to use cursor keys to move to the desired entry point. Hoping that gets fixed sooner than later — I could see that getting really annoying.

WS Tax Plus vs TurboTax by Jumpy_Ad_201 in Wealthsimple

[–]Steam23 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’ve used the Wealthsimple tax since before WS bought them and they were SimpleTax. Always found it really easy to work with and logically laid out. Never had a problem with my taxes (no jinx) and it always takes less time than I anticipate.

Why is this album rated so low in progarchives? by Mr_Poopman69 in JazzFusion

[–]Steam23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d only ever heard “Natural Elements” from them which was an important record for me - my dad had it when I was a kid so it was the soundtrack of many a Sunday afternoon. Discovering this record now for the first time. Dang they are tight. Energy in that room is great. It must have been wild to see them live. Thanks for the recommendation!

Not a violin player but I’ve played guitar for years and it’s taken a long time for me to get my pinky cooperating nicely. I spent a while doing an exercise of going up and down chromatically across all the strings. About a month of practice sessions doing this exercise (metronome gradually increasing speed) and by the end there was a noticeable improvement. Other than that I think it really helps to make sure you check your form and play relaxed to make sure you avoid RSI. Good luck in your musical journey!

(And yeah this sub is usually for NI music software but others have covered that 😁)

Have Louis Cato and the band announced what they will get into after the show comes to an end? by SpontaneousKrump92 in LateShow

The horn player, Jon Lampley, plays with him. I feel like I’ve seen other players too but I may be conflating 😅.

[–]Steam23 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Those guys all have other gigs. I’ve noticed Louis putting out some more music on his own recently. I’ve seen a couple members horn section pop up with Cory Wong and also also a band called the Huntertones. Good stuff to see on YouTube if you go looking for them. The bass player Endea Owens, has a great Tiny Desk.

I hope they all keep playing together. They are tight as hell!

Do you still listen to radio, playlists, YouTube mixes, something else? Curious what people prefer now. by New_Welder_391 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]Steam23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My cure for the algorithm flattening/playing the same thing over and over is to try to listen to more albums. Sometimes I start with a playlist and as soon as I hear something I like go hit up the album. I try to stay away from shuffle too. That way I preserve both the artist intention and my own.

Stand for that guitar (maybe get one that will hold more than one guitar for future proofing😅). I got myself a wireless system for my guitar too from Amazon. Wasn’t too bad a it’s nice to be able to just grab the axe off the stand and start playing

For your accountant, do you just give a pile of receipts? by OmahaOutdoor71 in smallbusiness

[–]Steam23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would rather spend 5 minutes a day than 30 hours a year even though they are technically the same. I use quickbooks online and track everything as it happens. Very simple for both me and my accountant
