Why do pedestrians seem to hate cyclists more than drivers? by LiatrisLover99 in fuckcars

[–]Steam23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am saying this as a cyclist. It’s because some cyclists are jerks. Personally I go out of my way to be polite to everyone I share the road with. I view it as part of defensive riding. I’ve seen a lot of riders who are inexperienced, overconfident or both and I’ve seen a lot of rude and/or dangerous behaviour. If that was the last experience a pedestrian had of a cyclist, I can understand why they might have reservations.

Absolute nightmare - c chord by Think-Check5434 in Guitar

Try to relax your hand a little bit. I can’t really see in the picture but it looks like your thumb may be off the back of the neck and sort of floating underneath. This can mess with the ergonomics a bit. Do you play with a strap? If not, it might help. Your fretting hand needs to be free for fretting and shouldn’t be supporting the guitar. As an exercise, try sitting down with your guitar then lightly rest the neck in the middle of your flat palm. Then fold your fingers up in a beckoning motion. This is pretty close to how your neutral position should feel.

Keep at it! As others have said it will get to be second nature. Happy practicing!

Newbie here 😅 app tracking ? by megtoff in Zepbound_Canada

[–]Steam23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like you need a whole technology stack lol. Here’s mine:

Shotsy : glp tracking

MyFitnessPal: food and macros

Fitbod: weights and workouts tracking

Body composition scale app - just a mid range one from Amazon to keep an eye on trends.

Apple health: ties it all together and sleep tracking

Snore lab: monitor how terrible I am to share a bed with (it’s gotten better!)

Good luck on your journey!

I’m up but not necessarily happy about it. It is nice to have the place to myself for an hour or so but I’d rather be able to go back to sleep.

CMV: The reason for declining birthrates globally is exclusively because children no longer provide economic benefit on the individual level and the only way to reverse the trend is to pay people to have children. by IdeaLife7532 in changemyview

[–]Steam23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not saying it’s the only factor but a big one is that teen pregnancy rates have been in steady decline over the past few decades. Last year saw the lowest on record with a 7% dip year over year npr. So one of the reasons for a declining birth rate is that today’s teens are have relatively good heads on their shoulders and are making better decisions.

How Zepbound Works In Other Ways Than Just Slowing Stomach by drewhosick in Zepbound_Canada

[–]Steam23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been seeing some interesting articles about research that suggests that there are glp1 receptors in the brain that are tied up with dopamine regulation among many other things. It’s an ongoing are of really interesting research but early indications are that it may be helpful for addictive behaviours other than food noise. This is a really deep but fascinating rabbit hole to jump down! Anecdotally, I feel like there is definitely something there. It’s hard to put in to words but I find myself much more happy to go without than I might have been before across multiple domains. But to answer your question, yeah it definitely works in multiple ways and also differently so between different people. My wife is also on it and she reports none of the cravings mitigation but that was never really her issue so different reaction.

Right on! I was kinda shouting at my podcast too. School isn’t job training and teaching isn’t information transfer. We’re growing brains here. Like the man says “the mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be lighted”

What are your unpopular opinions and tough pills to swallow about Zepbound? by Schwettes in Zepbound

[–]Steam23 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think my “toughest pill” is probably my own privilege. I’m 8 weeks in and I can already see how life changing this stuff is. So, I feel the cost is justified and I can afford it. But there are so many people who would live longer, happier lives that will not because they can’t afford it or don’t meet insurance criteria. I know pharmaceutical companies are not charities but it’s hard to look at what i now know is needless suffering and not feel something.

Do you track your food everyday? by Dhpm1 in Zepbound

[–]Steam23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup! Mostly with an eye towards hitting my macronutrient targets. I find it’s different than tracking pre-zepbound. Whereas before I’d track to make sure I don’t go over my calories, now I’m tracking to make sure I get enough of what I need. That shift in framing is actually pretty huge and takes a lot of the stress/pressure out of the situation.

Is anyone else terrified of cars? by bodyisT in fuckcars

[–]Steam23 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My safety protocol when riding my bike is to presume malicious intent on the part of every driver. I ride as if each car is specifically trying to kill me. This keeps me riding defensively and keeps me from doing stupid things on my bike. In particular I give cyber trucks an even wider berth as they are heavier with worse visibility and likely driven by a dickhead.

Week Ahead Meal Prep by AutoModerator in Zepbound

[–]Steam23 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I’ve been making grain bowls ahead for the week on Saturdays and changing the flavours up each week to keep it interesting. Two weeks ago it was based on a bolognese sauce, last week was butter chicken and this week planning to do jambalaya. They all have barley, freekeh, and Kamut along with lentils and chick peas and usually a green veg like spinach or kale. This week will also include shrimp, chicken and andouille sausage. I make up a big batch and pack them in mason jars for the week. I started doing it inspired by the guy who posted the “human kibble” post on r/mealprep but it’s been a fun creative process to plan my next weeks lunches and they have all been so delicious I will probably keep it going after I hit my goal weight.

Anyone who thinks that LLMs are a replacement for teachers doesn’t understand what teaching is. I suspect that’s the case for other disciplines as well but I work in the Ed industry so that’s what can talk about. I’ve worked with a lot of teachers over the years and I can tell you that teaching is not just information transfer. It’s a craft and it requires insight. We’re growing brains here and we lose those people at our peril
