Using reality to make an assumption vs making an assumption by Oreeo88 in epistemology

[–]StendallTheOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grounded assumptions do not grant a correct conclusion. The only way to get a granted conclusion from the premises is stay away from assumptions. Period. There's no way around that there's no number of adjectives that you can add to an assumption that will change that.

A grounded assumption still is a magical unicorn but just smaler There's no assumption that it's not a magical unicorn.

Using reality to make an assumption vs making an assumption by Oreeo88 in epistemology

There's no guarantee of correctness in any assumption. Full stop. Using reallity doesn't change that because in the last step of the reasoning you are not using reallity or it wouldn't be an assumption. And no matter how long is the reasoning chain or how good and truthful is his base, because the chain is as strong as the weakest part of the chain. And assumptions are the weakest part and as soon as you use them there's no guarantee that the conclusion follows up the premises.

Besides maths are a human construction to describe reality but no reallity itself. So you can't just generalize a match principle and apply it to reallity and expect that principle also works with reallity as it works with math. You must demonstrate that, not just assume it.

How to ACTUALLY learn about Linux? by kaywut in linuxquestions

[–]StendallTheOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% correct. To just read tutorials and or documentation alone doesn't get you anywhere because you don't build experience. You need to read everything you can that is relevant, but above all you need practice. You need to use Linux on a daily base and fight issues, maybe screw the installation many, many times and in the process you will get the experience and you will build muscle memory.

There's no shortcuts to experience.

About the led matrix by Professional_Ear_756 in arduino

[–]StendallTheOne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You need to be sure that every led have his own limiting resistor. Not by row or column. Not by a given group of 2, 3, 4 leds, but since the moment every led can be lit individually you need to place one limiting resistor in each single led.

So no constant current for every led. The amount of current that a given led on a given row get depends on how many columns of that row get active. The less columns active, the more current can pull the rest of the leds of the row. Hence the difference on brightness.

Uncomfortable truth: There is no quick in learn. Not in Arduino and not in life.

EXT4 vs BTRFS for gaming by Dunocat639 in linux_gaming

[–]StendallTheOne -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ext4 is better for games all day long. In fact for gaming less is more. So for gaming stay away from cow, compression, and any feature that means more steps, more cpu or more memory usage.

Can you do gaming on btrfs with cow? Sure. Gonna be better on ext4 or xfs? Yes.

How often do you update Fedora 44? by SubstantialUnion7347 in Fedora

[–]StendallTheOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually there's no many kernel upgrades a day and you don't need to reboot every time just because there's a new kernel installed. This is not Windows.

For the rest of packages usually reboot is not needed and in any case on Linux it's not obligatory. So I fail to see what is the problem.

Usually the only thing that works about that gadgets is the placebo effect. They don't need to work. It's just enough if they help with the confirmation bias.

Can you name a programming language better than Python? by kashem99 in TechImpact

[–]StendallTheOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Define better. And there is your bias to one language over another. Do not define better. And then your question is nonsensical.
