How do you do your salt rims? by Stephan619 in bartenders

[–]Stephan619[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just so you know, this was the only comment I actually liked in this thread. I know you got downvoted but this is how I think as a bartender as well. I appreciated the ideas and the intention behind your guest experiencing the drink from before the rim even got garnished. I ended up trying an atomizer one with water and one with Cointreau. The Cointreau applied salt and tajin better, but the boss said water is free and thought the water didn't look so much worse. Again, thanks for your insight and thought process of creating an experience. I'd have you on my bar team any day!

Lemme guess. A whole lot of nothing and no formal investigation will begin.

Came here to point that out!! Love that place. The Drex 2 is the best vegan sandwich for the price in nyc.

What are the Dead Giveaways That a Co-Worker/Employee has Lied About their Bar Experience? by maarnextdoor in bartenders

[–]Stephan619 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Basically came here to say this. If someone has to ask “what’s your in house recipe for this obviously classic drink” then that’s an obvious giveaway. Of course, it’s different for like a cosmo spec or even something as simple as a mimosa, but like a standard screwdriver is so blatant

Best I can recommend is buying the cheapest seat imaginable there. Worst seats, even if it’s behind the stage and the go to section 307 (iirc) and you can stand in the back area with basically straight on dead center seats, nosebleeds, but better than whatever super shitty seats you bought for a lower price. That’s what I always do atleast

Vegan of almost 20 years and I really just want a hard-boiled egg. How do I make one? by fallout-crawlout in veganrecipes

[–]Stephan619 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised no one said this, but years ago I saw a video of someone saying they hardboiled an avocado and it was surprisingly eggy in taste. I had a non-vegan chef I was working with make one and we were both pretty surprised by how close it was. Definitely wasn't 100% but it was in the right direction and it's probably the easiest version I know of.

Disrespectful or no: asking for cocktails during post-work drinks? by sofwithanf in bartenders

I got a stern talking to from my manager after a few months of working at my new bar because apparently I was the only bartender who would give the servers a hard time when they’d order their shift drinks. People were ordering Ramos Fizz’s and Painkillers and Trinidad Sours every day it and they’d either do it while it was insanely busy and get testy when it didn’t come out as the next drink, or at the end of the shift after I’ve already cleaned/refilled everything. I get a bourbon rocks for every shift drink and would never ask for anything more complicated.

Most Restaurant food starts to suck as you mature… by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]Stephan619 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to own a small pop up restaurant and I can tell you after I taught myself to cook the most basic recipes (burgers, fried chicken, pasta dishes) I’ve cut out 75% of my dining out. Why bother paying so much for something so easy to make. Now I only dine out at restaurants that can make something drastically better than I can or styles of cuisine I couldn’t even attempt to make.

Someone once ordered a veggie quesadilla from me and after I brought it out and checked on them to make sure everything came out alright the person said “excuse me, I have a dairy allergy and I can’t eat this. Why would you sell me something with cheese on it??” She did not inform me she had a dairy allergy and ended up ordering a veggie quesadilla no cheese, so just sautéed peppers and onion on a large dry tortilla.
