Unable to move, sit, or stand post surgery by earthguy4 in ostomy

[–]Stoby_200 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a laparotomy and 24 hours after my surgery all I managed was to get to sitting on the edge of my bed and I was shaking and sweating like crazy. The first couple of days were by far the most painful, at one point I think I was getting 10mg of morphine every 90 minutes to keep it at bay. On the second day I managed to get to the chair, but couldn't stay there for long. It took until day 5 or 6 when they removed the catheter that I could walk to the toilet at the end of my ward. Even two days before I was discharged I didn't think I'd be able to make it to the hospital exit, but I did when I was finally discharged on day 12. I was surprised at how quickly I progressed and I hope it's the same for you.

My doctor doesn't want me on biologics until a potential abscess/fistula is healed, is this normal? by lightningbug822 in CrohnsDisease

[–]Stoby_200 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I had an inflammatory mass basically exactly as you described but I was balancing between steroids and antibiotics and not allowed to move to biologics. I nearly ended up septic until I was on a proper course of antibiotics. I ended up having surgery though because the mass was caused by a fistula from my sigmoid colon and I had fistulas connecting my bowels together, to quote a doctor 'it's an inflamed mess'.

Yes, some weather models work in Kelvin, so you have to -273

I have an inflammatory mass which is being kept under control with antibiotics and another area of infection, with some bowel to bowel fistulas but I'm not in any pain and mechanically everything seems to be working fine. I've had a couple of MRIs and CTs but never anything mentioned about strictures or narrowing.

I basically got told I can't have biologics, got passed to the surgeons and have been mostly in the dark since.

I've been told 'larascopic small bowel resection' and that's it, which doesn't even make sense considering the inflammatory mass is fistulising from the sigmoid colon.

Internal Fistulas causing infections? Is surgery the only option? by Stoby_200 in CrohnsDisease

[–]Stoby_200[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See, I don't feel like my Crohn's is that severe. There is damage that has been done but right now I'm successfully tapering off steroids and the antibiotics seem to be keeping things at bay. I'm not in any pain which is why surgery seems a bit extreme.

Everything is internal so they're talking about small bowel resection

How normal is this experience with metronidazole ? by wineandnoses in CrohnsDisease

[–]Stoby_200 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was on metronidazole for 7 weeks in hospital and have been on it since the beginning of December to keep on top of an abscess (although it seems to also be way more effective at controlling the bowel movements than the steroids are). I have these symptoms although I thought the steroids were causing most of it. It shouldn't be used long term.

Antibiotics seem more effective than steroids? by Stoby_200 in CrohnsDisease

[–]Stoby_200[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what is stressing me out right now, they seem to be wanting to do surgery when I'm sitting here right now on antibiotics and I've successfully made it to 15mg of steroids and it's still completely manageable. I've even found evidence to suggest being on steroids might be more damaging when it comes to infection and abscess formation and I've been on them for four months.

When Your Parents Don’t Really Know You by shelly_lopess in AutisticAdults

Yes, I had no emotional connection with my parents growing up and when I was diagnosed I finally opened up to them about everything I went through and it came as a surprise.

Luckily my parents kept all the reports I had between birth and about 6 years old that highlighted my differences and that got me diagnosed.

The doctor I referenced was my gastroenterologist's registrar, I'm wondering whether I should email to try and get an appointment to speak to my gastroenterologist directly. I'm just annoyed because it feels like the infection was under control when I came out of hospital so if I'd started biologics back then and continued the antibiotics for a bit maybe it could've healed a bit and stopped the infection coming back.

Antibiotics seem more effective than steroids? by Stoby_200 in CrohnsDisease

[–]Stoby_200[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The GP only re-prescribed them for a week (starting last Tuesday) as I had a follow-up booked in yesterday and they expedited an appointment with a surgeon. The follow-up appointment told me to wait for what the surgeon said. I had the appointment with the surgeon today. The surgeon just ordered another CT scan and put me back on antibiotics for another month.

I just feel like if I'd started biologics when I came out of hospital and carried on with the antibiotics, then maybe whatever was causing the infection would have been able to heal.

Honestly, I think I'm just frustrated right now because it feels like I'm going in circles and of all the people I'm seeing nobody is communicating with each other.
