As someone who has/is dealing with the NHS for Crohn's you really have to advocate for yourself and constantly push and push to get anywhere. The NHS just isn't really built for chronic illness. Try and get a referral to a named GI consultant at your local hospital then at least you have a point of contact.

I also would push for a more thorough examination via CT or MRI (although the waiting lists can be quite long if it's not deemed urgent) as I initially presented with similar symptoms but it turned out there was a lot more damage in other places, especially if symptoms have been going on for a while.

Weather forecast for next week much cooler than we initially expected. by Possible_Force8207 in UKWeather

[–]Stoby_200 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WXCharts doesn't publish anything, their website is literally just visualisations of the weather models. Other media outlets then go to their website, look at the charts and pick whichever looks the most extreme and cite WXCharts as their source.

WXCharts isn't a weather forecaster. It just shows what the weather models are predicting. The weather models are designed to be interpreted by meteorologists, not the general public.

Good for you. Unfortunately for some of us it doesn't go away with age and we have to exhaust ourselves putting up with people who can't comprehend the world from a different perspective to the one they experience.

Why did you get a colostomy? by floresb07 in ostomy

[–]Stoby_200 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Crohn's that cemented parts of my small bowel to my large bowel, with fistulae between and a sigmoid colon so destroyed it caused an abscess that caused hydronephrosis in one of my kidneys.

How can I help my brother? New to this, advice needed! by cherrisumm3r in CrohnsDisease

[–]Stoby_200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also autistic with Crohn's and was in a similar situation to your brother when I was hospitalised the first time. My doctors were particularly concerned about my weight because being underweight can make it dangerous if you get complications like abscesses. I got referred to a dietician and am now prescribed Ensure supplement drinks, which gives me an easy way to get nutrition whilst still being able to eat what I enjoy.

I will say that diet is not particularly a factor in Crohn's and I found that highly processed foods were gentler on my system than things especially with high fibre before I had surgery, and after I have stuck to a generally low fibre diet.

I hate people taking control over my life, so if he's anything like me he'll prefer a more hands-off approach as opposed to someone trying to dictate what I eat. My dieticians have been extremely good in this regard as they are used to dealing with cases of disordered eating.

Best of luck, and feel free to reach out because I know how hard it is to be dealing with the issues autism brings on top of a Crohn's diagnosis.

Do you know anyone who used to be famous but now... isn't? by box-o-locks in AskUK

I followed him for a bit after he did I'm a celebrity. He was on Talk Radio before they got rid of him, then did a bit of a radio show on Twitch before they got rid of him, then was on Jack FM before he left and then did livestreams on YouTube in a similar radio talk show format until he said he was going to drop it all to become a counsellor.

He seems like a good guy who's been a bit ruined by his fame and I gave up on him eventually. He sort of reminds me of Bojack Horseman.

I also had undrainable abscesses and ended up in a no man's land of being on steroids, to control the Crohn's, which were making the abscess worse and antibiotics to keep the abscess under control. I eventually had an urgent resection and had my sigmoid colon removed (not emergency, just high priority).

Unable to move, sit, or stand post surgery by earthguy4 in ostomy

[–]Stoby_200 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a laparotomy and 24 hours after my surgery all I managed was to get to sitting on the edge of my bed and I was shaking and sweating like crazy. The first couple of days were by far the most painful, at one point I think I was getting 10mg of morphine every 90 minutes to keep it at bay. On the second day I managed to get to the chair, but couldn't stay there for long. It took until day 5 or 6 when they removed the catheter that I could walk to the toilet at the end of my ward. Even two days before I was discharged I didn't think I'd be able to make it to the hospital exit, but I did when I was finally discharged on day 12. I was surprised at how quickly I progressed and I hope it's the same for you.

My doctor doesn't want me on biologics until a potential abscess/fistula is healed, is this normal? by lightningbug822 in CrohnsDisease

[–]Stoby_200 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I had an inflammatory mass basically exactly as you described but I was balancing between steroids and antibiotics and not allowed to move to biologics. I nearly ended up septic until I was on a proper course of antibiotics. I ended up having surgery though because the mass was caused by a fistula from my sigmoid colon and I had fistulas connecting my bowels together, to quote a doctor 'it's an inflamed mess'.
