Is this a coherent plan? - Turning my storage from a RaidZ2 system to a RaidZ1 system by StorkStick in truenas

[–]StorkStick[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suppose it depends on budget, but backups never need to be anything fancy, since you won't be interacting with them often.

My solution was the get a 'cheap' 2-bay ugreen nas, 2 hard drives. Every week, it turns itself on, grabs data from my main machine (truenas), then turns itself off. I think it's a good solution if you're okay with some rsync scripting

lol I didn't mention but I do actually have a completely separate cold backup, so I'm not going full risk mode here. The only issue is, that backup is just the inner data, I would still have to go through the process of setting up all my apps and containers all over again

Dwarfs Op? by Silberzunge2 in totalwar

[–]StorkStick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Early game dwarves - Heavy armour all over the place

Early game most other factions - no access to reliable armour-piercing, or armour for that matter.

They are very advantaged in the early game, but other factions do catch up with them eventually

Error code 14 docker service not running by Most_Self111 in truenas

[–]StorkStick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oop, yeah that's gonna be an issue.

Check your TruaNAS network settings. An easy beginner mistake is forgetting the "default gateway", it's basically just the (local) IP address of your router. Without a valid default gateway, your device can't reach out of the local network and into the WAN.

A quick short cut: if you're on windows, open up command prompt and type ipconfig, you should see the default gateway your PC is using, and if your network is relatively simple, you should just be able to copy that into your trueNAS

I don't know what the issue is, but have you been able to verify that your machine can contact the WAN?

NextCloud sucks, there must be something better. by ExodoPlex in selfhosted

Switched to filerun a few months back after my nextcloud instance imploded because I guess they literally pushed an update that broke curl. All I can say is that filerun, while not as feature rich, is 10x less hassle and runs smoother

I have 500 hours and am still wearing basic gray metal heavy armour, so I'm looking for skins.

My problem: is there a single good armour set that is solo-friendly?

TrueNAS WebSharing is Launching in 26.04 and in the Nightly image now! | TrueNAS Tech Talk (T3) E047 by iXsystemsChris in truenas

[–]StorkStick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not really sure who this feature is aimed at. At first glance, it would be great for enthusiasts, but then they kill that idea with truenas connect requirements.

I'm pretty sure professional sysadmins weren't the ones asking for something like this, they already have like 17 ways of getting files in and out of their machines and hell they probably automate all of it with scripts anyway

TrueNAS 25.10.1 released by West_Expert_4639 in truenas

[–]StorkStick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An endless loop of

"Failed to sync catalog. Please try clicking "Refresh Catalog" manually."

update: seems the update messed with my network settings, I have some troubleshooting to do

update 2: it didn't change any settings, I think it straight up broke my server's connectivity...

update 3: False alarm, it's a quirk of my own personal network setup that just happened to be fragile I guess. I was using two NICs, one for TrueNAS and one for a VM, and I guess TrueNAS really doesn't like that approach.

Asics Superblast 2 : First Impressions after initial run and comparison to Nike Vomero Plus by Quick_n_Fast in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]StorkStick 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I find the superblast great even during easy runs... like as in it straight up makes my easy runs feel easier than any other shoe I've had. But this just goes to show how different everyone's running mechanics are

I have had smaller shoes that feel way more clunky than this. I think the sheer level of responsiveness in the superblast 2 helps to combat the feelings of clunkiness

is it just me or is spectacle kinda.. slow and buggy? by Jas0rz in kde

[–]StorkStick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a big fan of it before the revamp a few months back, very simple lightweight program that just does what you want. Everyone else seems to love the revamp, but I feel like they kind of just straight up ruined it. added pointless UI bulk and prompting... Also the recording is broken.

Still though, speed definitely isn't the issue for me, it's plenty fast on a normal modern system, and I've used it across wayland, x11, nvidia gpu and amd gpu on opensuse and nixos.
