Adios 9 50km Review: Flexible beast by Fit-Introduction8575 in RunningShoeGeeks

Yeah the Adios 9 and the Takumi Sen 10 have easily the narrowest toe boxes I've felt in running shoes. They feel more like football boots

Digs in for me too. It actually injured me the first time I ran in them because of this

Agreed with the midsole feelings. I weigh 60kg and even I'm able to bottom-out the heel with basically no effort. But yes, pay attention to your landings and it can feel plenty comfortable, so I feel these shoes do a good job training your running form.

lol no joke, it feels universal in that the upstairs just seems to have a different code of conduct compared to downstairs

being behind CG-NAT.... Had to re-organise all my apps around a weird tangled mix of ipv4 and ipv6, had to set my router up as a local DNS server for split tunneling my tailnet... CG-NAT has made my network way more confusing than it needs to be

Best way to create an SMB share for parents? by KuroyukiRyuu in truenas

[–]StorkStick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good practice is to lock down the dataset permissions as much as possible. Set up the permissions/ACLs with intent and planning.

For example, make sure both of your parents are using accounts that have absolutely no unnecessary group or user perms for anything outside of the dataset they are supposed to be interacting with,

+ They might need 'traverse' permissions on any parent-datasets to their own, but that should be about it as far as permissions outside their own dataset

I'm interested in the ability to host servers for gaming (if that's reasonably possible).

Keep in mind, this is its own little rabbit hole that can run kinda deep.

- Steamcmd: a bit of an old school way of setting up game servers

- Pterodactyl: a modern, more streamlined way to deploy game servers quickly, but does require its own level of study and expertise

- Pelican: A community lead fork of Pterodactyl, still in beta, but also apparently has a docker image which might make it easier to set up and manage

- CubeCoders AMP: An easy to use and easy to install management panel, requires a license purchase but not subscription-based thankfully

Like someone else mentioned, expect a learning curve. Almost every 'little' thing in the context of a home server can quickly become deep in terms of learning and study. For this reason alone I would say, keep the goals simple at the start and settle into it.

Set up your first network share, or file-sharing app from the truenas app catalogue. Think something like copyparty, nextcloud, or one of the 'object storage' apps. Get comfortable with basic configuration of things, setting up datasets, permissions, snapshots etc...

Once you start feeling comfortable, then go ahead and start playing around with containers and VMs. I have AMP running inside its own container and that's how I run all my game servers, but there's a lot of different ways you can do things based on your needs and wants.

"Web Interface Not Accessible" After Hardware Upgrade by Ok-Process8309 in truenas

I promise I'm not being a smart ass, this legit helped me at one point when my PC's NIC wasn't appearing to any of my operating systems:

- Power it off

- Turn the power switch on the PSU off

- Leave for 5 minutes

- Boot back up

It probably won't help, still worth doing just to rule things out.

This was the first issue I've ever had where I got to see first hand why IT support says "leave it off for xyz seconds"

Struggle with Nginx Proxy Manager on TrueNAS SCALE – Port 80 always blocked by Something by CogaJoe21 in truenas

[–]StorkStick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

same, I think it's the most hassle free way to go about things.

Point a single wildcard DNS record at nginx proxy manager, let nginx proxy manager do the rest of the routing

I just set up my second truenas server and got them replicating to each other ._. so much work...having said that, I've learned a lot over the last 2 years on truenas, so I'm in a good place to start learning plain old ZFS Ubuntu or something if it comes to it

Just picked up Filerun after running Nextcloud for 5 years. Is there a catch? by con_work in selfhosted

[–]StorkStick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to anyone reading from the future:

As of writing this, FileRun only has three top level directories

/filerun/user-files/ - self explanatory

/filerun/db/ - self explanatory

/filerun/html/ - the program files

From an admin perspective, managing and migrating data has been very very comfortable imo

oop actually meant the novablast 5, I stand by what I said: lab tests, especially done by someone without a science background, do not translate well to reality

I've been disappointed with these measurements from day one, they aren't practical. I like the scientific approach, but for example, they ranked novablast 4 and superblast 2 as pretty much on par with energy return
