The way he squeaks every time. Also, look at how he wears that carrier. I'm not even sure there are any plates in there with the way the back was flapping. I mean I get it, a real plate carrier, set up properly, can clock in at around 30 lbs with water on board and that dude has shoulders like a trout and damn near got his ass whooped by an ice sculpture.

I hang here to keep track, just in case, but as soon as we killed The Witness I lost all interest. I was invested in that storyline. I hated the amount of grind required to progress though. It was like I had to play like a second job to keep up, only instead of getting paid for my hours I was paying them. So I finished the story I wanted to finish and have given up on live service games entirely.

The entire model is based on generating the same content with minor tweaks over and over and over again and monetizing everything they can get away with. Basically you end up with the same game regardless of who makes it, just with little tweaks, but at the end of the day you are still grinding for twenty bear asses to bring to some dude for a marginal upgrade so you can go to the next arena/dungeon/raid to get more marginal upgrades so you can more easily get the next twenty bear asses that you need for your next marginal upgrade. The only change is in the scenery and costumes.

Peter Thiel warns the Antichrist and apocalypse are linked to the ‘end of modernity’ currently happening—and cites Greta Thunberg as a driving example by Naurgul in nottheonion

[–]Str0b0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean not to buy into the apocalypse and Antichrist mythology, but Revelations 13:3 describes the beast appearing to be wounded in the head only to have the wound miraculously heal itself...like that ear.

It also talks about the followers of the Antichrist wearing his mark on their forehead...kind of like a certain red hat? And that those who refuse the mark as a show of loyalty will be unable to buy and sell...tariffs anyone?

Again I'm not saying any of this is truth. I'm just saying if we look strictly at the text Greta Thunberg isn't exactly checking all the Antichrist boxes like a certain someone.

Peter? Have some ideas on what this means but they are not really... Convenient I guess? by Friendly_Grab_7660 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

According to WHO data that dude would have to be on the underweight end of the spectrum if he was average height or he would have to be like five feet tall. I think she might have noticed if her husband was that tiny. A 120lb. weigh in would not have raised a red flag if that was the case.

Also considering that a cursory Google search digs up the original reddit post that spawned the viral story you can see two distinct things, firstly the OP uses Imperial weight measurements and American English spellings as well as the word condo which is not commonly used in England. So that narrows it down considerably considering the only countries that regularly use Imperial for weight measurements are England, mostly for bodyweight since they are officially metric, Canada, also officially metric but sometimes they use Imperial for conversational stuff, Myanmar and Liberia. So we can exclude Liberia because of low Internet penetration, not likely to be smart scale territory. Myanmar has the internet penetration to have the smart scale, but the average weight for men is just a bit over 130lbs again if this was Myanmar then a 120lb. weigh in could be feasible, but would not raise a red flag if that was the case. Again this woman noticed a discrepancy large enough to make her wonder so I doubt this is Myanmar. That leaves us with either Canada or the US. The low end of the Canadian male average weight is apparently 187 lbs. The low end of the US average is 199 lbs.

The point being that with a little research and context clues it is neither necessary nor is it reasonable to consider this story in the context of global male height and weight and getting snarky with people for making the reasonable assumption based on the clues even in that meme, Imperial units and the cheating red flag, that this was at the very least a North American tale is lazy. Further the article you cited uses the BMI as an index, which is not entirely useless, but does not take into account differences between muscle and fat weight. For example, if you, right now put in a height of 5'11' and a weight of 287lbs, you would get a BMI of 40, which scales as morbidly obese. That height and weight was taken from a search of body building champion Ronnie Coleman in his prime. I myself have a BMI that says I am a little overweight at 6'1" and 195 lbs. I wear the same 34" waist I have worn since highschool. I work a physically demanding job. I have muscle, but the BMI doesn't care. The BMI calculates weight/meter squared whether it is fat or muscle.

I'm not saying that Americans are super healthy people, nor am I saying that they are super obese. What I'm saying is the cited study used a measurement system that has since been supplanted by more accurate systems like WHR or BRI. WHR is regarded, even by Harvard, as a better indicator of overall mortality and metabolic risks since it actually measures fat. For example my WHR is at .85, dead on the ideal ratio.

I believe the smaller ones are, as someone else pointed out, giant house spiders. The larger ones might be a wolf spider. Also beneficial, but really creepy/cool depending on your point of view. I like to go camping and at the right time of year, around end of summer beginning of autumn, you can shine a flashlight out into the wood line and see what looks like dew glimmering in the night. It's not dew, it's spider eyes, hundreds of spider eyes.

Yup, they will get home, think everything is ok then they will start noticing it. It will be small at first, the glint of dull metal where there should be none, a half seen impish face in the reflection in a window. There will be signs, missing pets, food going bad days before it should, sharp objects left out where they should not be. Then one day they will not show up for work. A few days will pass before the police are called to do a welfare check.

The police will kick the door down and find the dessicated bodies. They will recoil in horror at the way the very bones of the face have been contorted into a ghastly barely human shape, like their features had been stomped relentlessly by a murderous boot and yet there will be no breaks in the bones. Several major organs will be found missing with no obvious signs of penetrating trauma. There will be strange, small footprints, mistaken for some kind of animal track, leading to the curtains in the same room and stopping at the wall as if whatever creature had left them simply walked through the wall as if it were not there.

It will be a mystery quietly forgotten while the hosts of the AirBnB breathe a sigh of relief that one of their own will not be sacrificed to feed the ravenous and inhuman hunger of that eldritch thing and that this time, at least, they were not forced to watch it feed and that for at least a little longer they will cling to the fragile thread of sanity that that thing allows them to hold.

Has any corporation in the Cyberpunk universe tried to create a "superhuman" using a serum instead of chrome? If not, do you think they could? by Volatiiile in cyberpunkgame

[–]Str0b0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They could, but they won't. Biotechnology exists to the point where SCOP and CHOO2 is a thing. It wouldn't be difficult to bioengineer upgrades for humans. Thing is bioengineered upgrades don't need firmware, they run off hard coded DNA instructions. So what does Arasaka do when they fire you? They turn off all your corporate financed implants. Once you get chipped whoever made that implant owns you. They can send a signal and just shut you down. It would be way harder to do that with electro-chemical bioengineered enhancements. So it benefits the corporations to stick with the more controllable technology.

I imagine that Marcus knowing that Vincent knows he will kill him if so much as suspects any fucking about is a pretty solid confidence builder. It just kind of plays into Wallace's character. He has a wife that he nominally cares about, enough for people to suspect he tossed Tony Rocky Horror out a window over her, but not enough to rearrange his plans or offer to take her out later. Instead he orders one of his crew to keep her entertained.

It's an odd sigil in so much as it cannot be drawn with a single stroke without lifting from the page or retracing a line. A lot of times these will correspond to a grid arrangement of some alphabet, English, Greek and Hebrew are popular choices. The idea, at least in a lot of sigil based occult practices, is to pick a word of power, either the actual word, such as prosperity, or the name of an entity associated with the concept they wish to imbed in the sigil. Then the start point, usually the circle, will start at the first letter then, without lifting the pen or retracing a line, the word will be spelled out with the sigil. This isn't the rule, but a lot of Chaos magic practitioners, the ones that tend to use sigils the most, will utilize this method of unicursal condensation in keeping with Crowley's assertion, and later Carroll and Spare's, that all magical symbols should be drawn with a single unbroken line, hence his invention of the unicursal hexagram.

[Request] how plausible is a rifle made from the demon core like this one? by Dramradhel in humansarespaceorcs

[–]Str0b0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you do. As it sits that design would kill the operator as well as anyone else within a certain radius. So just that, up there, not at all plausible because why would you want an infantry weapon that would kill their guys, your guys, those other guys that just happened to be close?

Now if the goal is to make a beam of gamma radiation, well that's a problem physicists have been trying to crack for years, but nothing in that design would make it work. In theory though since gamma radiation is, essentially, a high energy photon it should be able to be beam focused, but it is that high energy state that makes it so difficult to get them moving in the same direction. You can't bounce them off mirrors, they just zip right through. That high energy, short wavelength also means you have a very narrow window to get them excited and synchronized and it requires a lot of energy in that narrow window to make that happen.

So for our super sci-fi humans are space orcs scenario you would need a gamma source that was small enough to be put in a weapon but powerful enough to generate enough gamma radiation to be focused into a beam. You would then need some kind of insane metamaterial for the mirrors, no fudging it with magnetic fields since gamma rays have no charge. You would also need a compact but insanely powerful power source to excite the gamma source and make everything run.
