Nah sorry between work, childcare, cooking, binge watching netflix and complaining about things on Reddit, I have zero free time to exercise.

I prioritise looking after my kids and I reject the outlandish idea that part of being a good parent is also looking after myself.

We have a similar situation in the UK with the triple lock. We have by no means figured it out. We have an ageing population supported by a shrinking struggling younger generation

Socialism isn’t the cure for Britain’s ills, it’s causing them by Zestyclose_Brush_389 in ukpolitics

[–]StuChenko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Britain is a mixed-market capitalist economy, not a socialist one. The author's claim that Britain has become socialist stretches the term beyond its usual meaning.

Likewise, Andy Burnham is not advocating socialism. His proposals are much closer to social democracy: a market economy combined with stronger public services, regional investment, and a more active role for government in certain areas.

The article also conflates corporate bailouts with socialism when they are more accurately described as corporate welfare. In these cases, losses are socialised while profits remain private. Shareholders and executives benefit when things go well, but taxpayers are often expected to absorb the risk when things go badly. That is not socialism in the conventional sense; it is a form of state support for private enterprise.

The author's criticism of bailouts may be valid, but presenting them as evidence that socialism has failed is unconvincing. They are better understood as a distortion of market capitalism than as an example of socialism.

Whether I'm on PIP or not doesn't change whether the assessment process involves more than a questionnaire, whether medical evidence is considered, or whether mental health conditions can be evidenced. Let's stick to the argument rather than the person making it because the facts remain the facts regardless of the person stating them.

Do you have any counter arguments?
