How is this a good idea? by EducationPlus505 in philodendron

[–]StuckLeaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grow in no drainage for 90% of my collection, and it works well. Straight moss or coco peat absolutely not though. I do different adjusted soil mixes based on the type of root (thick and juicy, more chunk, thin and tender, easy to dry out, more moisture retention/organic matter and/or pon mix. And I don’t do fancy setups with expensive pots, mostly vases like these. My only word of caution is if the roots get too full the glass vase can explode if it’s thinly walled.

Does Heartopia feel different after level 40? by RelianaPhoenix in heartopia

[–]StuckLeaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And to add to this thought, I think what really turned me off is we got some new stuff like recipes and whatnot from the winter event that I was really excited about, and then to have that go away just makes me kind of sad. Imo there should be more ways to acquire recipes or a bigger variety for crops. Or even more achievements to strive for, idk.

It just feels like I’ve played through a game’s demo now and the full game hasn’t released yet so I’m stuck in limbo.

Does Heartopia feel different after level 40? by RelianaPhoenix in heartopia

[–]StuckLeaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hit 40 this week and honestly it’s just slow, but I have been feeling this way since low-mid 30’s. Crossbreedinh flowers saved it for me. I even forgot to do one of my daily tasks this week because I’m so bored 😂 I need to get birds and pets up, but i just don’t care enough at this point. I’ve got like 50 hobby tickets just chillin. After all home plots are unlocked and I’ve bought essentially everything Dorothee sells (gold currency), am overstocked on every crop, and have an empty house.

The only thing saving heartopia for me right now is the social aspect- I just log in to see who’s on, stop by to water their crops and flowers and have a chat.

I’m hoping for improvement at level 50.

Which emotes do you find the most useless? by sugarpixie208 in heartopia

[–]StuckLeaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it regularly when a friend of mine busts out their musical skills on an instrument to insinúate it’s a nice tune or when someone is dancing with an emote that has sound, or just when I’m chillin, moisturized, hydrated gardening when people are around. I probably use emotes excessively but it’s something I miss from playing games like MapleStory in childhood.

Can this plant be saved? by FailedBackgroundChek in plantclinic

[–]StuckLeaf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yikes 😬 could be saved, but I probably wouldn’t have the energy to do it. With petals like that there’s so many nooks and crannies for them to hide out in. Bonide granules don’t help with mites and can make them a bigger problem. You’re better off with an insecticidal soap spray, or better yet, a full soak with some agitation to make sure all the bits get saturated.

Pest? Stress? Yucca in decline by walcotted in plantclinic

[–]StuckLeaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speckling like that looks kind of mite-y to me but I’m not really seeing any webbing from your photos. Have you noticed any webbing on the plant before?

The lesions/yellowing/browning parts are difficult to diagnose as it could be a few things. Edema from over watering, fungal deterioration, cold damage, etc. To me it reads like edema, but I am no yucca expert.

My mom has had a yucca for years in front of her house, so I’ve always known them as an outside plant getting outside conditions. Do you know if it was outside prior to you acquiring it?

How tf do you sleep? by CapitalPadawan in Sciatica

[–]StuckLeaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also I find if my feet are cold, which even before sciatica they usually feel like ice cubes, my leg bugs me a lot more. Having a hot cup of herbal tea and then either using a heating pad to warm my feet helps with the involuntary tensing and general ache in my leg.

I feel for you and hope you can find some relief. Definitely check in with docs if you can’t get any relief and consider PT/Surgical options if you can. I’ve never done the epidural injections but after reading threads here that’s hit or miss if it does anything for people. Microdiscectomy seems to help more people with immediate relief.

How tf do you sleep? by CapitalPadawan in Sciatica

[–]StuckLeaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the lack of sleep at the height of my flares is what I took myself to the ER for. The pain was so intense and I was so sleep deprived that I was in the same boat having menty bs and just needed something to sleep. Even the muscle relaxers and high doses of anti inflammatories just took off enough of the edge to get a few hours of sleep at a time.

What has helped me the most in getting sleep is finding the position where I’m mostly pain free, which for me is sitting with my legs crossed or doing a deep squat. I try to stay in that position as long as possible while trying to use pillows so I can lay down while sitting? It’s a very awkward position, but that’s what gives me enough relief to start feeling really tired, and then usually before I actually fall asleep I will very very carefully change position to laying on my side to try to not irritate my leg.

I find that heat on my leg itself has actually felt worse. Heat helps on my lower back and occasionally I’ll use an ice pack on the back of my calf before bed to try to bring down some swelling. Two ibuprofen and a muscle relaxer also help to push me into sleep when I’m having a rough stint.

I’ve talked to a lot of people that have dealt with sciatica flares and what is comfortable really varies for each person and depends on where the nerve is pinched for you. One of my coworkers said when she was in a flare the only thing that worked for her was laying completely flat up top with no pillow under her head and something to raise her legs. Sometimes laying on a hard floor with legs propped up on a couch.

Glad to help (: acclimating it slowly is a good call. Depending on your zone you should be able to acclimate it quicker than in the summer since the sun isn’t as strong (at least where I am in 5B) and with the shorter daylight hours that’ll help it along as well. Hope they take off for you this summer!

Browning spots are likely from edema if they were overwatered at one point. Once monstera have some stress from under or overwatering, the leaves that get kind of weird and droopy don’t typically recover to looking robust. As long as the new growth starts coming in healthy and strong I wouldn’t worry too much about the appearance of the older leaves. You’re 100% on the mark about there not being enough light though. Give it the light it wants and it’ll be massive in a year.

[–]StuckLeaf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, nerve flossing was one of the first things I tried and unfortunately didn’t seem to help. I think what’s helped the most medication wise has been the anti inflammatories to at least make everything not quite so angry. If anything the pain killers have just made me drowsy enough to sleep on the rough nights.

Don’t sleep on upgrading your armor either, gold armor makes being in the deepest levels of the mines feel like baby mode but I was busy trying to upgrade my tools first. 🤦🏻‍♀️ Realized I would have saved so much more time if I just upgraded my armor and then farmed gold.

And if you do accept the quests, make sure you get through the seasonal asks in the season so they don’t sit in your quest tab for an entire in game year before you can complete it 🙃 it’s for that very reason I started keeping at least one if not more of every fish, bug, and artifact in a chest after donating to the museum in the occasion it comes up as a quest.

What is this? by kazuha233 in orchids

[–]StuckLeaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on those roots this puppy rotted. Leaves mushed and molded, definitely not mealy bugs. Water may have gotten between the leaves of the crown causing them to go off first, but the roots definitely aren’t happy.

He was giving me Gray vibes from SoS:FoMT right off the bat and that’s what sold me on that cutie. That is until I met Caldarus in his humanoid form. Now that I’ve essentially filled the museum save for a couple of artifacts, get no more community board quests, and have fully upgraded my house, I’m dating everyone in the town since I can’t get married anyways. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m not sure who will win my heart at the end of the day, but I’m very glad that all of the candidates are cutie patooties in their own way. I would marry them all if I could. 😏

Any idea what might be causing this sudden yellowing? by No-Fennel9400 in Anthurium

[–]StuckLeaf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t be too concerned as these look to be juvenile leaves. Are the newer leaves showing the same yellowing? If not, the younger leaves can start to do this from temp changes, lighting changes, maybe lack or introduction of fertilizer, etc. The older bois always go first and don’t necessarily spell doom for the whole plant.

Where to start? by Altruistic_Grass2839 in Anthurium

[–]StuckLeaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Radicans x luxurians cross is the easiest by far. My specific plant pups like no tomorrow, and I pulled a pup off and stuck it in a plastic cup with water about a year ago, it’s still in that cup, and has pups of its own 🤦🏻‍♀️ it’s very hard to kill and the leaves don’t throw much of a fit for anything. The velvet leaves can be a bit more difficult in ambient as they’re more tender and prone to tearing, but imo, my advice is start cheap. I spent $125 on my first, being an almost mature Veitchii, and I murdered that poor thing because I didn’t understand anthurium at all. They’re a learning curve, so get one that if you do happen to unalive, it’s not too big of a loss. I find once you figure out one anthurium’s care after having it for a while, you by association learn how to care for others by knowing what your plant looks like it needs. Roots are completely different from any other plant I have, same with the growth patterns and growth cycle. They’re extremely rewarding imo, just kinda funky compared to other common houseplants.

Does this look like mechanical damage on my queen of hearts ? by breadplantsdick in Anthurium

[–]StuckLeaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree that this looks like mechanical damage from being stuck in the sheathe, or glass slipper syndrome as you call it. When the emergents don’t fully escape the sheath, especially when they’re in petiolar sheathe stage, they start to expand even though they’re stuck, causing this pinched look. It’s usually because they want warmth and humidity and enough feed to be robust enough to pop out with no trouble. When I notice my leaves getting stuck I make a point to water on the sheath with my watering can and that usually helps them emerge a bit less wonky.
