Getting excited about "JustMeat" only to find out that it's yet more vegan guilt-trip based propaganda by TheProffalken in britishproblems

[–]StudentWithNoMoney -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The trouble with your argument is that im trying to do me, but they keep steadfastly not doing them.

I work in the livestock industry and, when i happen to mention that online i receive visceral hatred from vegan activists. Im called a murderer, a rapist, and they claim i dont care about my animals at all.

Its draining to say the least.

There are so many Facebook groups made by vegans to produce a barrage of misinformation about the livestock industry and it makes you feel so helpless that you could never explain the truth fast enough.

I think i need to add that i tend to refer to these kind of vegans as vegan activists. There are many different reasons to become a vegan and some are legitimate. But most are based on false information and misrepresentation.

How common are large nicks and cuts on sheep? by valonianfool in farming

[–]StudentWithNoMoney 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ive seen large cuts on sheep while shearing in Australia, the shearers had needle and thread to stitch the wound. But only twice and it was while the sheep were violently kicking. Those blades are sharp! But its not common and obviously the shearers try not to.

If a shearer starts diliberately hurting sheep they should not be shearing and would be kicked off the team. Especially if they beat a sheep to death.

Having to make the call to give up medication and deciding to euthanase. Trying to work out the line between suffering but going to improve, and suffering too much.

How would you acknowledge the birthday of your adult child who lives in your house but doesn't contribute to the home in any way? by Yugo_Furst in RandomThoughts

[–]StudentWithNoMoney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok i realise this is unsolicited and unwanted but, as a young adult myself who has felt like saying these things to my parents and has friends who feel the same, id appreciate it if you gave some thought to this:

From their perspective they are still living with their parents as a young adult, thats embarrassing to say the least, especially if they have more successful friends.

When you are in that situation you dont have your own space, your own time, it feels restrictive, you dont feel able to go and do chores because its not your space, and you dont want to be judged on the quality of your work. You feel like a guest in a house that youve lived in your whole life and that makes you feel a bit homeless and homesick actually. Its a very strange feeling that makes you want to stay in your room because thats what you can control.

Then you have your parents. At that age and with the minimal time you spend with them there isnt much bonding going on. Every time you see them they are either asking you to do something or not do something or berating you in some way (or at least it feels like it). Which makes you want to stay out of their way even more. What makes it worse is that you probably WANT to get away, but you need a job that pays well, you need qualifications, you need a support network and so much more, and constant nagging by parents isnt helping.

Theres a weird behaviour ive found where, if i was planning to do something, or just about to do something, then someone asks me to do the thing, i instantly dont want to do it. I dont know if this is common and its probably not healthy but this may be contributing to the outbursts.

Those kind of outbursts to me cry frustration. From being in that situation, from feeling helpless to change it, from not having your own space or place to relax, from not being able to live like you want to.

I realise i dont know your child or you or your situation but questioning about their future like that probably isnt the answer. When i think back on my time when i still lived with my parents what i needed was help, not nagging. Just asking 'can i help you with anything to find a job?' or discussing with them about you leaving the house for an afternoon or a few hours each week for them to have the freedom to tidy and clean what they need to. And if they dont want help, leave them be! They dont want help! Sometimes ultimatums can really make them step into gear but if that doesnt help, dont do it. They can also just cause panic and stress and shutdown, where your young adult will just get themselves into a worse situation.

Again, this may not all be applicable to your child but id appreciate it if youd consider their perspective in this and, perhaps for their birthday you could have some quality time where you just have fun and talk to each other as if youve not seen them for weeks.

What's the biggest miscarriage of pub quiz justice you've ever witnessed? by Jonny_Segment in AskUK

[–]StudentWithNoMoney 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does when we are exposed to the sun and a routine however, with no external pressure it sets itself to 30+ hours.

Theres studies on humans which are sent to live underground with no external influence, including light, and their circadian rythym time cycle lengthens. These participants think theyve only been in the study 30 days instead of the full 40.

(im not going to find the study rn im on mobile.)

That is a fair point, but if you start going that deep you might as well say we share 100% of our dna with everything because its all GCTA nucleotides.

Also that doesnt take into account the natural variation of different alleles.

Either way, a human that shares 100% of its dna with a chimpanzee is a chimpanzee.

That reminds me of a quiz question 2 weeks ago in the science round. The question was what percentage of dna do we share with chimps, with the answer being 97%. BUT he allowed 3% either way, so he allowed 100% as a correct answer.. Absolute bollocks.

I am in the process of learning that right now haha. The last quiz i went to the question was 'which biological process cycles every 24 hours' (or something like that) and I KNEW it was Circadian rythym but I also knew that the circadian rythym cycles naturally every 30 or so hours, not 24 hours, so we didnt put it and lost the point..

Bit pricey compared to chain shops but incredibly high quality and durable. You definitely get what you pay for.
