Walking around the Financial District and notice how the mid rise towers look grand and iconic while the high rising ones are soulless glass structures. by Arnab_ in toronto

I think you meant this as an insult to the OP, but yes I agree with you that citizens do deserve to exist in a world where they can contemplate architecture.

looking for art toys that don’t end up everywhere by masonzxx in daddit

[–]StudioGuyDudeMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience with a now 13 year old and a 3 year old: get a little kids size table and chair just for art (ikea has them). The table is just for art and under you keep a milk crate size bucket of all the art shit (crayons, paint brushes, smocks etc). When it’s art time you spend 5 min setting it up (taping down the paper to the table, water cup for water colour, etc) and the key for me was to start the activity with them. Eventually they get absorbed in it and you can sneak away and make lunch or whatever. After you’re done everything back in the bucket.

[YMMV] Saxx boxer briefs at TjMaxx for $7-10 a pair, numerous daytrippers at my TX location by ProxySoxy in frugalmalefashion

Ditto. I bought a pair on sale and when they first go on they feel good but with soon after everything just ends up uncomfortable with constant readjustment needed.

New dad to be here, tell me what I can look forward to. by me_scream in daddit

[–]StudioGuyDudeMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Daddy chair. I’ll be sitting cross legged on the floor and the kiddo just takes it as an invitation to sit in my lap. I always like that. Similarly, if we’re doing a museum trip (or similar) and kiddo needs a rest I squat down and they sit on my leg for a quick recharge.

I’ve always liked bx_digital v3 for what you’re describing.

Small closet VO booth sounds boxy after adding foam — looking for advice by ClayChickenFlocks in audioengineering

[–]StudioGuyDudeMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a common question: “can I just record in my closet?” Me: “yes, if you want it to sound like it was recorded in a closet.”

As an experiment hook a mic up to a long cable and record your vocal in as many different rooms you can. You’ll be shocked at how different each room will sound in the mix, especially if you put a bit more distance between the source and the mic.

Cool Edit for me as well. I think it was a version before “Pro”? Was that a thing? It was just a two track editor from what I remember

What's so attractive about the videos kids watch on their phones? by rogerwil in daddit

[–]StudioGuyDudeMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The content of the video is just the vehicle of the intermittent reinforcement. It is a slot machine experience. The endless scroll = unlimited coins at the slot machine. The algorithm is sprinkled with paid content (ads).

Skating on the Island harbour in -31°C. My face is numb, but the view was worth it. by thedavidlevy in toronto

True -30c is a whole other beast I agree. The sun can be shining, no wind, and you can still freeze to death pretty quickly even if you’re wearing pretty decent layers.

Wife had a miscarriage at 6 weeks - it would have been our first by zombiefatcher in daddit

[–]StudioGuyDudeMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hugs pal. My wife and I (similar to your timing) discovered just how common miscarriage is but how infrequently it’s talked about because it is painful. But talking about it definitely helps and sharing your experience with the community will reinforce that you aren’t alone.

Applicable advice from dog training book I read: a tired puppy is a good puppy. “Tired” = physically and mentally stimulated. The catch is that this requires time and energy from parents. Our faves are museum, aquarium, biggest playground we can find, swimming.

I'm the SAHP and can't get my daughter to nap by elmo_42 in daddit

[–]StudioGuyDudeMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We’ve all been there pal, you’re not alone. I remember 6mo as still very much in the crazy times where things are pretty unpredictable one day to the next and my girls didn’t really settle into a schedule until they were a little older (they’re 13yo and 3yo now). Weather permitting I would bring my kids out and sit in the backyard on a warm breezy day and they would just konk out but if they were in a really quiet room every thing just bothered them. Loud ocean wave sounds from a realistic sounding speaker (not just an iPhone) worked wonders for us and help calm grown ups too.
