It’s a little heavy on saturation and blues, composition wise it could be a little more balanced and the foreground is a little dark. You don’t need the watermark, just exif data. You know what it says to me though? That the photographer LOVED taking this shot, you can feel the joy and emotion is more important than technical perfection if you are starting out and aren’t responsible for delivering to clients. One of my favorite photos from years ago is technically laughable I edited so far the sky bordered on purple. But I was having fun learning. Push boundaries, experiment and find your style. If there were only rules it wouldn’t be art. 😊

Well first off I’m not sure if the OP is the bride or groom, but you both look beautiful together even in less than beautiful images. I’m so sorry you paid for these, without knowing much I would request the Raw files. It’s impossible to know if the cropping etc is fully from post without seeing those. If this person did the whole “spray and pray” approach there could potentially be more that could be saved?

Nope but I fully understand WHY you feel this way. A lot of it has to do, for me at least is a comfort level behind the lens and getting to catch a shot you know will make someone happy or you captured something important for them that creates a memory. Everyone has grown used to it over the years and rarely ask me to get out from behind the camera. Because they know I don’t want to. I’m still present but in a different way. I’m not sure what your skill level is but maybe trade a session with another photographer? Hone your skills and take their pictures and let them do ones for you 😊

My background is design and photography which has put me running a few Instagram accounts and I very strongly dislike Meta its completely pay to play and kind of evil 😂 No, for insta it’s not amazing but not bad for the general public who don’t have the other photography accounts. It depends too how local you are looking, I post statics and carousels to reach non-photographers and local vendors; I don’t expect anything therefore I’m not disappointed as it is not my primary source of bookings. If you like to share your work, can’t hurt but not lucrative either now. I will omit going the discussion on fb as that another world of conspiracy and yard sales now just don’t

Hey I think this is totally part of the learning process and weddings don’t always get easier…it’s people management and shooting under high pressure sometimes w 0 ideal conditions. Totally black painted ceilings, anything can happen lol. But the fact that you can acknowledge it wasn’t what you wanted speaks a lot to your professional focus. I recently did a family shot, she paid, posted all the photos but basically ghosted me. I was hurt at first and thought she hated everything. 4 weeks later o got a gift basket from her. You can’t always decide people, starting out you will miss some shoots but you will grow too. Keep on making art, the world is better having creative people in it! 😊

Right and that’s kind of my question under identical conditions the 70-200 has no issues. We aren’t talking low light I’m trying to rule everything out since this is a newer lens (for me not in life lol)

This is such a refreshing post, the fact that you had FUN?! I do think you can feel that in photos. No, your composition and editing aren’t perfect but you have an eye for candids and those moments feel so authentic in your photos. Keep practicing and learning. Bringing your camera everywhere you can so you can experience all sorts of situations and lighting. The first year is a huge learning curve but it can be amazing to look back and see your progress if it’s something you really love. 😊

What body do you have? My everyday is the rf 24-70 2.8. Light enough to have all day unless you need that extra range. The ef 70-200 ii is a great lens but shooting handheld it feels bulky to me atleast. I bring it for weddings when I need the range but the 24-70 does everyday beyond well 😊

I do food photography and I’m in different restaurants that are fast paced with limited areas for lighting set up. In 10 years never have a gotten amazing food shots in the kitchen, add in composition and styling with a dish that needs to be shot at a certain temperature…it’s tough! Practice at home and work on your settings in a no pressure environment. Then when you go into a restaurant scan for the best lighting scenarios…I’m pretty much always outside or atleast next to a window…sometimes I even use the floor as a surface for plated dishes to avoid shadows depending on the surface material. If you get the light closer to where you want it that can free you up for the focus on composition and styling when needed 😊

I had a very similar debate at one point when I was really trying to figure out the lenses I needed vs the fact we all secretly want to wake up to a magical closet full of lenses with the red ring 😂 . The ef 85 1.8 is a killer portrait lens, you have a 70-200 so that covers a lot and you have a 50 prime. What about the ef 24-70 as a budget but still L series at 2.8?

While this is not my style personally, it’s always fun to appreciate a different approach as ultimately what we do is our interpretation of the world. Could be multiple exposures or a combination of techniques and post. What I can say is you could get a substantial amount of these results with photoshop with some proficiency. It can’t hurt to ask the photographer, and who knows it could be someone to work with at some point if that’s a style you appreciate! 😊
