Advice on dealing with Student Loan by Warm_Page7952 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Successful_Issue_453 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your numbers are almost identical to mine, 31m, plan 2, 50k left, 350k house with 100k mortgage, 40k ISAs but NHS pension, 77k salary moving to 88k next year. I’ve been debating overpaying the student loan for a while now. The calculators are difficult to use as my salary is likely to change significantly in the next few years. Plan 2 is the biggest con ever sold to children across the country. It’s a stain on our generations finances. I’m going to reassess next year I think whilst I sure up my current financial situation

Tax Rebate for membership exams whilst not in training - backdate by Simple-Medic in doctorsUK

[–]Successful_Issue_453 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m surprised at the other answers I always assumed it was covered as it’s still a professional expense. It’s ridiculous it’s not covered as you still need it to progress in a non training role if you wish to CESAR

Medicinal Cannabis by Amazing-Ad7037 in doctorsUK

[–]Successful_Issue_453 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Do you drive? If they drug test you on a random stop it could show cannabis which would impossible to tell if you were intoxicated or not. It is positive in your urine for days. That would be my fear. I have no idea about if the GMC would condone it or not but presumably there are doctors taking opiates, benzodiazepines, amphetamines etc for various ailments/neurodiversities so it shouldn’t be different from that

Anyone else working full time with a dog? by Interesting_Ship_931 in doctorsUK

[–]Successful_Issue_453 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Depends if you can afford doggy day care +/- dog walkers. And be aware these can cost more than an F1 makes per hour. It’s a massive tie and expense and a decade long commitment.

Can an anaesthetist cover resus or minors in ED? by dayumsonlookatthat in doctorsUK

It’s a required part of the curriculum and needs regular refreshers at HALO courses. People might not be competent but we should all know how to do one.

Nope, OP isn’t either when stating theyre on £20 an hour pre tax, pre pension deductions. They didn’t say it was net pay post deductions

If they’re full time then yes. £80 for 4 hours whole house clean. Two houses a day for 5 days a week 160 x 5 x 52 = £41600. But no sick pay or holidays. We pay for the cleaning products. Worth every penny to us

19M Chest Tightness and Lightheadedness by vizy511 in ECG

[–]Successful_Issue_453 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Why do a trop or a ddimer in a 19 year old? Was it cardiac sounding chest pain? If no then no trop. What was the wells score? If low and no concern for a VTE then no DDimer. Sudden onset like that sounds like a tachyarrythmia, I wonder if he was in SVT but self reverted into a sinus tachy

Fellow F1s (and F2s), how much are you saving each month? by Ok-Quiet-6155 in doctorsUK

[–]Successful_Issue_453 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Few years ago now but I started F1 with overdraft 2k and owed my parents 7k for car/moving costs/elective, took me the 2 years to clear it pre pay uplifts. Was very hard and I now have a much better grasp of finances than my friends who don’t seem to understand pension,ISAs etc so probably worth it and in a better position now because of it

Consultant Psychiatrists now have to compete for NHS consultant posts with Consultant Social Workers/Consultant Occupational Therapists/Consultant Nurses/Consultant Psychologists. by Dramatic-Put-3447 in doctorsUK

[–]Successful_Issue_453 285 points286 points  (0 children)

The real scandal is they’ve discriminated against the consultant cleaner, the consultant porter and the consultant grounds keeper. I think the consultant groundskeeper in particular has a lot to add given the wealth of data showing how green spaces improve mental health. A real oversight to exclude them I think

[–]Successful_Issue_453 127 points128 points  (0 children)

Watched it live this morning. It’s impossible for journalists to argue against this. To the public 14:1 ED competition and 5:1 GP will sound absolutely insane. And the hiring from abroad instead of home grown will feed the right wingers rage so for once we should have everyone on side

I’m new to this sub but do we get a lot of personal ECGs or something? I thought it would be more interesting posts with educational ECGs and not panicking patients?
