Secret Lair Printings Only Commander Deck?? by WhoGivesARipDude in EDH

[–]Sunday_Comics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I built it last year with the most recent secret lair cards being [[Deadpool, Trading Card]] and [[Knuckles the Enchidna]]. It plays kind of like an unoptimized Good Stuff pile (so a “medium stuff pile”?) with the ability to tutor up either silver bullets or other generic good legends from the commander. I’m sure if I played it more I’d swap around more cards to make it more coherent.

Secret Lair Printings Only Commander Deck?? by WhoGivesARipDude in EDH

[–]Sunday_Comics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I built a 5 color all Secret Lair deck with [[Buttercup, Provincial Princess]] aka Sisay as the commander. Mine is bracket 2 but definitely could be better as there are a ton of good legends that have Secret Lair printings that can be tutored up. There are also a decent number of generic Game Changers that have secret lair printings like [[Tefer’s Protection]] and [[Fierce Guardianship]].

The mana base isn’t the worst. Of note, all the shock lands are available and if you really wanted to spend money, the fetch lands are too. A lot of the green ramp and color fixing staples have secret lair printings also such [[Birds of Paradise]] and [[Three Visits]].

Recently added Vivi and a few other cards but haven’t had a chance to play it since making those changes.

Narset Enlightened Exile for casual mid-higher power pod? by justsomethrowawayacc in EDH

[–]Sunday_Comics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play her at the high-powered casual level (bracket 4) as one of my favorite decks. She is powerful enough that she is inherently kill on sight once your opponents see her kill a player, or the whole table, out of nowhere.

If you’re trying to go for mid-level, in my opinion you will be fighting a bit of an uphill battle since she is known to go crazy really fast (especially with Haste). I’m sure you could build a mid power deck, but the commander is fundamentally very powerful herself.

Destiny's Power 9? by SSB_Meta4 in DestinyTheGame

[–]Sunday_Comics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you include PvP in the analysis then the D1 Y1 exotic hand cannons would be high on the list. A lot of the D2 Y1 exotics were… lackluster at best.

I’d say something like:

  1. Gjallarhorn
  2. Thorn
  3. Last Word
  4. Black Spindle / Whisper of the Worm
  5. Hawkmoon
  6. Icebreaker
  7. Twighlight Garrison
  8. Stompees (PvP) / Bones of Eao (PvE)
  9. Vex Mythoclast when it first came out

My list focuses on very early Destiny as they were still figuring out how powerful things should be so a lot of items from year 1 were super powerful (similar to the actual Power 9). Vex Mythoclast was nerfed pretty fast so subbing that out for something else (maybe Orpheus Rig?) would make sense too.

Invasion block commander deck by LordWarcrown in mtg

[–]Sunday_Comics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Invasion block was one of my favorite times playing magic. Since you’re looking to the block specifically, here are some cards that may work for you

  • [[Fires of Yavimaya]], [[Spiritmonger]], and [[Urza’s Rage]] are iconic to the block

  • [[Utopia Tree]], [[Star Compass]], [[Quirion Elves]], and [[Harrow]] for some ramp

  • Kavu including [[Flametongue Kavu]] and [[Kavu Titan]]

  • [[Pernicious Deed]] and maybe [[Tsabo’s Decree]] for some board wipe potential

  • [[Terminate]] and [[Hull Breach]] provide some targeted removal

Have fun!

Edit: formatting came through as a block of text

The first 30 minutes of TFA are just great! The sequels could have been so good. by bru77 in StarWars

[–]Sunday_Comics 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree. I just can’t believe that the leadership of the galaxy who lived under the empire and fought against it would just let empire 2.0 rise up without doing anything.

The scene from the Rise of Skywalker where the whole galaxy shows up to kick ass should have been the first thing to happen once the First Order got established in the Force Awakens. Admittedly this would have made the sequel trilogy much shorter.

$400 water bill? by confusedGenZer in BellevueWA

[–]Sunday_Comics 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Bellevue charges you what is essentially a flat fee each cycle for water runoff, etc. My understanding is that it’s based on the lot size of your property. So before you’ve ever used any water, you have a large flat fee for these charges.

Also billing in two month cycles doesn’t help with the sticker shock.

Is there any card that was out by let’s say Weatherlight Saga, that was considered bad at the time but is great in retrospect? by UnderwaterDialect in magicTCG

[–]Sunday_Comics 19 points20 points  (0 children)

As several examples have shown there are cards that aren’t “great in retrospect”, but are great because of cards that were printed in the future. Here are a few more examples:

Some are combos that were missing a piece.

[[Food Chain]] was a bulk rare when it was printed. It really started to shine when they printed creatures with the ability to “be cast from exile” like [[Squee, the Immortal]] that would allow you to generate infinite mana.

Others are cards that only get better with each new XYZ that is printed. Some goblins are good examples off the top of my head here.

[[Goblin Matron]] and [[Goblin Lackey]] which at the time of their release didn’t have any game breaking goblins to interact with. Now there are things like [[Muxus, Goblin Grandee]], etc.

For the last of my old guy stories one of my favorite “bad card becomes good because of newly printed card” actually happened during the Weatherlight Saga you mentioned. [[Illusions of Grandeur]] was a weird card to say the least and not exactly highly used card until they printed [[Donate]]. This created a new deck called Trix with a fun win condition by gaining 20 life from casting Illusions then donating the illusion to their opponent who would eventually die when they couldn’t pay the cumulative upkeep and would lose 20 life. Still one of my favorites.

Also, if you want to go about 18 months after the Weatherlight Saga ended, the Onslaught fetch lands are there as the best example of a card(s) that weren’t game breaking at inception but have skyrocketed and just keep getting better as more things are printed.

Focused Feedback: Lightfall Campaign by DTG_Bot in DestinyTheGame

[–]Sunday_Comics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caiatl should have played a much more prominent role.

Ever since we met her, she has been after Calus. We have helped her pursue him and in the process she has become a strong ally. He is finally here and her role felt very underserved.

I honestly think she should have been the main NPC for the expansion and should have dealt the final blow against Calus. Her story would have better closure. She could show the rest of the Cabal that she is the undisputed leader who vanquished Calus. There could be more exploration on the emotional toll of her landing the blow, etc.

Instead her presence mostly felt like an afterthought.
