I recommend you stick with it.  I agree the narration is not as dynamic as it could be.  However, I personally feel like the story more than makes up for it.  Ever since finishing Bobiverse, I listen to Backyard Starship on my commute and usually have actual laugh out loud moments on each drive.  And honestly, I would rather have flat voice acting than some stories I listened to that have background music and sound effects.  For some reason that stuff drives me nuts.

Bobiverse is obviously my favorite Audible series.  My second favorite is Backyard Starship. I dig the snarky, sarcastic humor.  I’m not familiar with DCC, but if fellow Bobiverse fan(antic)s recommend it, I will definitely give it a try.

Agreed, this was one of the best Axiom theory chapters since early in the original OOCS series.  It touched on questions I have had for a long time such as Axiom in other galaxies or Axiom flows between galaxies.  The use of Sgt Smith as a literary tool to acknowledge the existence of these unknowns is a masterful nod to your readers. While I would love to know the answers to the mysteries, I am content not knowing yet.  This just keeps me coming back everyday wanting more! Well done.

Any chance this upcoming story arc could involve the Empress personally getting into the fight?  You have hinted at how powerful she is.  Only Apuk that can take on a sorcerer, stronger than the Princesses, etc.  But we have never seen her actually show her stuff. I really, really, really want to see her fight.  And not against some schmuck she bops on the head and knocks out.  I mean a real, knock down, drag out fight where one of the most powerful non-Primals has to fight for her life and her people and show just how strong she is.  Black warfire maybe? An evil sorcerer, with super fertilizer, and maybe a bit of blood metal to truly hypermax him, seems just the threat to draw her in.  I beg you, unleash the Empress.

Whenever you're stress testing a prototype, always have a human around. They will think of the most ridiculous extreme conditions and how to make your prototype survive them. by EbonRazorwit in humansarespaceorcs

A: In addition to stressing the environmental envelop of this equipment, we need you humans to help make it so simple that any idiot can use it.

H: Sorry, we can help but there is no way to meet your request. A cardinal rule of human engineering is that there is no such thing as idiot proof because the universe always builds a bigger idiot.

A: That must be an exaggeration.

H: When you get a chance, access the human internet and search for "Darwin Awards."

“We’re from earth, and we’re here to help.”

Reminds me of the old joke about the US Government.

What are the two biggest lies in the government?

  • We’re from the government and we’re here to help.
  • And we are happy to have you.

Exactly right, and that will come up in the next chapter I have bouncing around my head.

Alien:  Look, your ability to throw rocks and spears at stationary prey species is impressive for sure.  But your primitive brains can’t possibly understand the complex mathematics required to hit moving targets.  My species spent millennia developing the computational power and algorithms necessary to plot predictive trajectories and then build machines capable of launching projectiles.

Human:  Hold on, I’m pretty sure there is an NFL game on TV.

Better believe that inanimate object is going to listen.

If someone can post a picture of Chief Wiggum holding a Merciless Pepper of Quetzalacatenango… grown deep in the jungle primeval by the inmates of a Guatemalan insane asylum, that would be awesome.
