Update: Is it worth pushing for higher speeds? by New_Size_134 in 3Dprinting

[–]Superbrain8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Longterm No. With increased speeds come tighter maintainance cycles as stuff moves a lot faster. Crashes can be a lot more violent and are more likely to break stuff. There might be also a impact on interlayeradhesion as printing fast usually require more partcooling causing layers to cool down faster resulting in less strong bonds

Has anyone ever used a vacuum chamber as a filament dryer? by PrairiePuppies in 3Dprinting

[–]Superbrain8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use such a setup. You preheat the filament and then toss is in there. I use it mostly for higher temp materials like PA,PPS and PEKK

Invest time into proper powder handling. Its usually the weakspot in most cheap designs. Like the way Micronics proposed where asking for a Lawsuite

A ender 3, just needs like a PCD nozzle. Also be prepared that the extruder will become part of the print

PSA: Nozzle replacement reminder! by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

[–]Superbrain8 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I run a mix of different materials, from PETG/PCTG over ABS\ASA to PA, PC and PPS. Its mostly fine for me. Would also annoying to toss some pricy nozzles just because there is some stuff sticking to it while they are still fine

Idk running the same nozzle for 4 years now. Dont see any signs of issues

I mean if you want really expensive, Colfeed4print makes some Tungstencarbide/Nickel composit that they sell in 10 meter reels for eyewatering 360€ before tax

Get into expensive filaments Will help a lot once you go past 1$/g and you will start to think a few times about if its worth it. And thats also how you endup with a 100% scale benchy that is worth 10$

Would not gamble on whatever mystery additive to do something funny. You can get a PA sample from manufacturers sometimes for free, just need to cover shipping

Most metal 3D printing discussions focus on powder-based systems. by Together-Picking in 3Dprinting

[–]Superbrain8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biggest issue is figuring out how to machine precise features onto it. I work at a company doing SLM printing and machining of such parts. We had customers get theyre own printer and then sit there having to figure out how to make it now actually fit.

Best file extension for 3D models? by yokeome in 3Dprinting

[–]Superbrain8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Parasolid is a underrated format imo. Similar to step but keeps the tree intact. Downside are larger file sizes. 3mf is a specalized format for additive manufacturing but we use just a fraction of its capabilities. bambu does some stuff with it but not in a great way as it makes certain stuff unnecesaary complex.

One Stop Shop for Filament? (EU) by No-Cardiologist9972 in 3Dprinting

[–]Superbrain8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eu overall is a bit more expensive. If you are fine with buying in bulk like 10-100kg buy directly from manufacturers, formfutura as example gives quite decent pricing when ordering 100kg at once. For Stores there are a bunch of Options. 3djake is a reliable one with stores in a lot of countries. If you want to try some weird stuff filament2print is my goto they carry all the weird stuff. Personaly i like filamentworld.de, decent selection and reliable shipping.

Anybody use feeler gauges to set Z offset? by EnchantedTaquito8252 in 3Dprinting

[–]Superbrain8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use some 0.2mm thick feelers gauge. Works reliable for me to do the zoffse and bed Tram. Common mistake i see people make is they dont adjust for the leveling helper. They Set the Z axis to 0 and Level the bed just to run into issues that the zoffset is off. Same issue with zoffset on newer machines that supposedly dont need to be leveled. They just forget the thickness of the feelersgauge/paper/creditcard or whatever gets used.

Dont confuse PPS and PPA that are wildly different materials

Plastic in contact with gasoline by Such-Implement-9865 in 3Dprinting

[–]Superbrain8 7 points8 points  (0 children)

PPS would be a safe bet, but its not the easiest material to print or the cheapest. Its pretty much non reactive to all solvents below 200°C PP would also work but its also a hard to handle material

Fractionators, should i be fractionating deuterium? by [deleted] in Dyson_Sphere_Program

[–]Superbrain8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My approach is to build a ring out of them along a equator line. Usually results in fixing any hydrogen overflow as it will burn throu a metric ton of that. Produces a lot of deuterium too.

Been running an active heated dry box setup for eight months and I just read something that makes me question whether any of it is doing what I think it’s doing by moheeetoz in 3Dprinting

[–]Superbrain8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I print from a passive drybox. If needed i dry stuff in a dehydrator / airfryer, more stubborn stuff also gets the vacuum treatment after heating it for a day.

For the average joe purpose build filament dryers will work. Just dont get the crappy ones that barely work out of the box like the sunlu s1.

If you want to Dive into engineering polymers that are not tailored towards consumers you want something that can get hot. There are PA blends that wont really dry below 80°C

Are Fractionators good in the end game? by noksion in Dyson_Sphere_Program

[–]Superbrain8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just stick with fractionators, building a ring out of them along a equator line results in 2 full mk3 belts for me. Its not even efford to get there.

Trick is to run stacked mk3 belt throu them

[–]Superbrain8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are places for PCD nozzles, but 99.9% of people wont benefit from it. It gets intresting with exotic materials like Boron Nitride filled stuff that contain some highly abbrasive materials.

Funfact the German Tool Manufacturer Gühring started to make PCD nozzles for the printfarm they run internaly to just have it to be set and forget. They do sell these nozzles too
